Should I have my "Supersoldiers" wield short swords, or axes?
I'm beginning to see that swords are apparently an inferior weapon.
Swords have a higher crit chance, more likely to pierce internal organs like heart and lungs.
Crap, I recruited a elf in a human town and it's trying to kill me, everyone I meet and is classified as a member of my party.
I just got a bluescreen after 6 hours or so of uninterrupted, save-less play. FML.
Why would you not save for 6 hours? :raise:
I've tried to play for 3 hours straight and not save, not 6 hours though.
If you don't save, it means you're not playing the game in a way exciting enough to make you think "shit, if this goes wrong and I can't savescum I'm royally screwed" which means you're playing it wrong.
I just started a hermit fortress, and then I realized that my hermit has "He truly values the company of others."

Depression fortress, go!

So I should have people designed from the get-go to be the Paladins of my fortress wield swords?
I mean, they're already equipped with exceptional chain mail and exceptional Plate armor (Steel, although I'll make two full suits of chain/plate for both of them when I find Adamantine.)

Eh, he'll get over it.

WRONG!
Game autosaves after each season/maybe year.
You liar.
[editline]05:14PM[/editline]
Hermit forts are old news.
Real men play fort where you cannot kill cats.
you must protect them at all costs.
WRONG!

You have to manually activate that option
You can manually de-activate that option
I have never had a problem with cats before. I never had to butcher any.

When I downloaded it, auto-save was disabled.

Well opposite for me, i guess it depends on Toady's mood when he uploads new version.
I think it is turned on as part of the tinkering that comes with the mayday graphics set. I wouldn't know for certain though as I prefer ascii and it was disabled for me. (last downloaded version for me is 40d16)
I don't understand why everyone uses either Mayday or ASCII, why not some of the less graphical, yet not as confusing tilesets, like Dystopian Rhetoric.

Mayday is the most popular and easiest-to-install one.
I use ascii 40d and it has autosave turned on from the start.
I havn't used 40d16 because I like 40d more.

There goes my theory.
The only advantage I see in 40d over 40d# is the use of tools like companion, which I rarely used anyway.
I use 40d19.2, most of the tools I use (I usually only use Dwarf Therapist anyway) work fine with it.
Guys, sequel to Boatmurdered, and the sequel to Headshoots (which was a sequel to Boatmurdered) is now up, it's called Syrupleaf.
http://lparchive.org/LetsPlay/Syrupleaf/index.html
It's only a month old.
In fact, it's meant to be a direct sequel to Headshoots, with common reference to the tragedy (and legends) that came from that fortress.
Anyone seen DFTerm yet?
You can play Dwarf Fortress over telnet with full chat support and hot-swap direct control of the game.
This is a quick configuration reference for Putty to get you dialed in right.
Right now I'm playing on dfterm.servegame.org:43722 where they're running 40d19.2 at some slick framerates compared to my box. Input and refresh are a bit laggy but totally playable.
I recall Gurant trying it, but not sure if he even plays it anymore.
RayvenQ plays it if i recall.

So wait, does that mean you're... ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL?
I'm guessing the new version isn't out yet because we don't have a V10 with a title related to diseases.
