I think it's time to get my buddy, Daijitsu, to do some photoshop work for me. :v:
Also, I think I may have doomed my guy. I inadvertently wandered in to a chasm that was in a Dwarf city and I've been wandering through it for some time. Crossing my fingers that there's an end to this thing. I haven't seen any Caveswallowmen for some time. :ohdear:
Anyone else planning on making a waterfall in the next version, except with molten gold?
[editline]08:05PM[/editline]
Problem arises in the new version: 1 tile holds countless items but not liquid, therefor dumping 10 000 000 gold ores in a small hole, filling the hole with 7/7 magma should cause a huge wave of molten gold waving everywhere flooding your fortress.
[editline]08:06PM[/editline]
With huge pressure.

Where is that dwarvenly emote when I need it?
That is just my speculation, of course. To avoid accidental magma flood overfilling your gold stockpile, filling your fortress even further with 7/7 iron/gold/all that, Toady is probably going to make the substance just disappear if there's no space left for it.
Got my guy out of the cavern.
Humans are pissed at me. I killed a guild guy that had been wandering my abandoned fortress. The humans are apparently none too happy about it. :ohdear:

Build some well placed fire-proof doors and remove all the flammables in the room, and you have yourself a sure-fire way to get a smooth, solid gold floor.
A smooth, single piece gold floor sounds incredible.

Assuming you can do that with that result, would the resulting floor be considered natural or constructed? If it's considered to be natural then I can guarantee that people will try and make <insert favored material here> fortresses with molds and casts.
Edit: And then engrave everything.
Just got the mental image of a solid adamantium fortress made from a mold.

That could be a nice idea to make bombs and glob traps with.

yeees. That means my method of dumping rocks/ores down to the bottom level where my rock/metal workshops are isn't impossible.

I read that last bit as something along the lines of 'a fortress made from cats.'
Think about it.

Since the 3D version, yes, but who knows if toady was going to limit the number of items you can put on a single tile?
For some reason I can't access the bay12games webpage, or anything with bay12games in the name. It just gives me an error that bay12games.com doesn't exist. I've tried in both crome and firefox and none works.

No it's been like that all day, and my friend can access the site fine.
So is there any way to set up my Adventurer with some kind of starting package or do all adventurers start off naked and unarmed? :raise:

Give them some armor user skill and some weapon skill. Don't just start with a default adventurer who has no skills and items.

I don't know where people keep getting this, but there are no new liquids in the next version. There's decals similar to blood splatter and vomit, but as far as flowing liquid with depth numbers, it's still only water and magma.

There is new material system, that makes a large ammasment of blood, glob, vomit or anything else a glob of it, making it liquid.

If my estimated release date is way too late then I'm ecstatic, I think I said 14th of April or something.
Release date is Hitler's birthday.
[QUOTE=devlog]The main issue now is a frequent random crash that has appeared that I'd reeeeaaaaally like to have cleaned up -- we caught one of them just now that happened when an old mayor needed to have mandates cancelled after losing an election. There still one that happens in younger forts though.. Testers are on their seventeenth version overall, and I imagine it'll be that way for the rest of you as well once I get it sorted out, bandwidth permitting.
"Stands up" spam in the combat log led to weird repetition of previous announcements... all sorts of problems with fluid containers... fixed up some temperature check code that sped things up a bit... lots of cheese/milk job problems fixed...
[/QUOTE]
After reading through this devlog I have found a hidden message.
The number 17
If you multiply 17 with the first number of this version you get 68.
If you then divide it with the number of versions the testers have had (17) you get 4.
The closest date with the number 4 is april 4th
Therefor the new version will be out on April 4th.

I do. He still starts off naked.
For some reason ALL armor and clothing shows up as being "small". Found the problem They're set to have a size of 12. The average Dwarf is size 6. :byodood:
Setting up ninja dwarf fort.
They will take on super orks.
They will move three times (maybe?) as fast yet cannot use weapons.
Orcs will have bows removed (is this possible?) but will be super strong.
[QUOTE=Orkel;20942540]Give them some armor user skill and some weapon skill. Don't just start with a default adventurer who has no skills and items.[/QUOTE]
Helps set up the idea of you being a strapping young lad who, after seeing their village destroyed, is rescued by an ancient warrior who leads him to an ancient order of warriors so he may eventually enact revenge.
Did I just put an intro synopsis for Fable up...
And as soon as I set his size down, not only is he unequiped again, he gets absolutely mauled by wolves. :raise:
[editline]04:58PM[/editline]
I'm also modding the items to create sets of Tentacle Demon-sized clothing. Hopefully it works well.
So let's get this straight: Toady is going to release DF2010 soon, but it won't be the final version. So he's going to release a new updated version every week or so?
What the fuck?
[editline]11:00PM[/editline]
Please someone tell me I got this wrong.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head. This is a huge release, comparable to the 3D update, it needs a while to be finished. And the small releases after this one will most likely all be bugfixes.
