So let's get this straight: Toady is going to release DF2010 soon, but it won't be the final version. So he's going to release a new updated version every week or so?
What the fuck?

He is going to keep releasing updates until Dwarf Fortress is so realistic that, upon booting up, you could argue you are controlling a matrix-esque existence.

Toady has said the release will be "dirty". He'll try to make weekly bugfix releases and there'll be a lot of them apparently. The way I understood "Testers are on their seventeenth version overall, and I imagine it'll be that way for the rest of you as well once I get it sorted out" is that he is expecting around 17 bug fix releases after the main release (not precisely, but still a lot of bugfix releases)
Yeah, it'll end up with you talking the Urist "The Chosen One" McNeo.

Actually, I think he means that the testers have had sixteen previous versions of the game, their current is the seventeenth, which we should get too - he doesn't say how many bug-fix releases he will be releasing.

The moment the game becomes self-aware of its situation is the moment I'll throw my computer out the window.
There is new material system, that makes a large ammasment of blood, glob, vomit or anything else a glob of it, making it liquid.
That's not how it functions. It's more like multiple splatters of blood combining on the ground to become "a pool of blood". It still can't flow around like water or magma.

See:
Ah, I should say that I was talking about 17 releases over a short period being a bandwidth problem. I think a release a week will probably be okay as long as I've got a few mirrors working. I'm not really sure, since we haven't had a delay this long for this many people before.
So he's clearly talking about around 17 bugfix versions over a short period of time (one per week) after the release. The testers are currently on their version 17. We'll get our version 1 as the main release, and then ~16-17 bugfix releases.
When the update is released will the steam chat be all active like in the good old days?

"Are you sure you'd like to walk over this cliff?"
"Yes"
"Urist McDwarf refuses to walk over cliff. Urist McDwarf: 'I'm afraid I can't do that, Dave.'"
When the update is released will the steam chat be all active like in the good old days?
I hope so. :v:
For some reason I can't access the bay12games webpage, or anything with bay12games in the name. It just gives me an error that bay12games.com doesn't exist. I've tried in both crome and firefox and none works.
you have a DNS problem
I think I get the gist of it. So that means that I don't have to start a new fortress for each update he releases?
I'm used to the Mount & Blade-esque kind of updates where all previous saves are incompatible and you have to start all over again.

This thread will have hundreds of new replies each day, and the chat will be filled with people going "oh my god" over the new stuff they are playing with.

"omg i just lost via a giant spikey blob of vomit with a beard"
I wonder what the pet value of taming a "Lost Creature" would be.
I would guess it's variable, since a blob of slime wouldn't be as expensive as, say, a creature with six legs, two claws, and an exoskeleton made out of Platinum.
Now that I mention it, the platinum creature sounds insanely awesome.

Ah you may be right... 17 versions, lol.
Hey, Libertas, can I be a grower\woodchopper?
I'm having a major issue with my Tentacle Demon civ working. They don't have any shops. At all. I can't figure out how to get them to have shops in Adventurer Mode. :raise:

Humanity is the only race that has shops in Adventurer Mode.
Humanity is the only race that has shops in Adventurer Mode.
Not anymore. Fixed the problem. They have shops now.
Also fixed the issue of armor. I changed their creature_standard file so that they'll equip ([EQUIPS]) clothing and weapons and such. Started an adventure to find myself clothed, but still unarmed. Might have been due to being a proficient Wrestler, but whatever.
Made a long overdue gender fix, so now they'll actually reproduce (go on, try and get that image out of your head). :smug:
Also found that, due to their Ethics, the Demons don't give two shits if I steal from a shop. Stole a copper version of my new weapon, the Zweihander (think this. Works great, kills shit well, etc. Anyway, stole it with no consequences, but the game made me travel some distance before allowing me to travel via world map. :saddowns:
Also, found an elf town where everyone but two shopkeepers were dead, both of which were quick to insult me and try to kill me. :smith:
This is turning in to a personal devlog. :v:
I'm trying that stonesense thing, but for some reason it doesn't work, even with me in-game. Does it not work with mayday's tileset?
Stonesense doesn't work with 40d16 (I think mayday was 40d16 atleast)
In other news: I got text mode working on my DF although the top piece of a bowyers workshop is written as two characters, which in turn completely messes up that line.
Fuck. I can't get ANYONE to give me quests. Anyone.
Anyone have an idea why every time I ask for a quest, I get the response "Ah. Well... we are quite untroubled here." :raise:
Quest: Kill everyone.
Quest: Kill everyone.
Tried it. Usually ends with my adventuring becoming a pincushion for Crossbowman. :v:
What do you do with large gems anyway? Can you construct doors with them or something? If so, how?
Tried it. Usually ends with my adventuring becoming a pincushion for Crossbowman. :v:
Quest: Kill everything else.
Tried it. Usually ends with my adventuring becoming a pincushion for Crossbowman. :v:
1: Pick up shitloads of sand/dirt/stones/whatever
2: throw shit at the ground till your a legendary thrower
3: sneak around
4: throw shit at people till they die
I did that, then eventually I picked up a bow of an elf I'd stoned to death, then I just shot everyone while sneaking around.
