I can't wait to play this.
Wait so is the Wiki completely abandoned or will people update it later?
I would assume it will be updated.
Wow I just in cased the dragon in lava
Wait so is the Wiki completely abandoned or will people update it later?
There are new, empty DF2010 pages that nobody has written on yet. So the wiki will not be abandoned, but it will take a few weeks before it becomes useful again (unless Toady decides to add info to it himself).
Do you have to muddy the floor every time you want to grow plants, or just when you build the plot?
Press ESC - Key bindings - find "Leave screen" - K - Space [editline]05:39PM[/editline] also adamantine armored elephants are invincible :D
You sir are awesome!
So, to irrigate, you flood your fort?
Also link to steam group?
Oh dear god.
Holy shit, my migrants now are of some use. I longer get waves of dozens of milkers.
Oh dear god.
Huh good luck with that one.
Now you have to build a Farm Plot on muddy ground. You can do this by irrigating or building one in an underground cavern. I recommend irrigation because building it in a cavern leaves it vulnerable to attacks.
Shiiiiit
Embarked on a frozen hell of a mountain. No plants (save for some trees) and hardly any wildlife here. Going to have to make a living by trading rock crafts and such. Happily, I've found a bunch of materials for making shiny things with and it is my intention to find coal and get some forge work done. Failing that, the wood outside is going to become charcoal to feed the furnaces. Failing that, I'll delve deep and see if I can find any fun things to attempt to kill, butcher, and eat. Also, a reliable water source needs to be found. Edit: oh wow, I just found a mushroom forest underground. Looks like we're in luck, it doesn't seem to be inhabited... plenty of arable farmground here too. Plenty of delicious plump helmets, among other fungi. Edit2: It has a river too! Double score!
I just got on today, opened firefox, restored my tabs (I always have the DF log in the first tab) And my mind was blown. Currently genning a world and trying to read the changelog... God I hope I can remember the button layout.
GAHGHHAHG getting the hang of the new military screen is a bitch But hey, it's still awesome.
So, to irrigate, you flood your fort?
Just flood the part you want to grow something. 1/7 layer water is enough. [editline]08:09PM[/editline] Kinda unsophisticated, but it works.
So, to irrigate, you flood your fort?
Well, you don't have to flood your fort. I've come up with a contraption that should make irrigation easier. Just set up 2 floodgates in a tunnel connected to a river. One floodgate must be open, the other must be closed. Put the place you want to irrigate on one end of the tunnel with the river on the other. When you pull the lever hooked up to the floodgates, one will block off the river, preventing flooding, and the other will dump the smaller amount of water which was trapped in the tunnel into your farm, making a controlled irrigation. Here's a diagram; ~ = Water _ = Closed Floodgate -- = Open Floodgate ] or [ = Wall ~~~ ] -- [ ] ~ [ ] ~ [ ] ~ [ ] ~ [ ] _ [ (Farm goes here) So when you pull the lever, the open floodgate will close, blocking the river and the closed floodgate will open, releasing the water that was in between the 2 floodgates.

I let the water in, flood the area, and then pump the water back into the river.
How do I get someone to start pumping? I can't find the labour in the menu.
How do I get someone to start pumping? I can't find the labour in the menu.
Under engineering menu.
Jesus the possibilities in this game! Also; adventure mode lags like fuck.
In case nobody saw the edits to my last post, I've just discovered a mushroom forest. That pretty much solves my food problem, as the ground is farmable and quite open, once you harvest the abundances of plants. I don't know if they're toxic or not, I guess it's just a case of gathering them and letting my dwarves scoff until they die of poisoning or are happy. There's also a river down here, so that solves the water issue too. It doesn't seem to be inhabited, but I'll keep you posted.
Under engineering menu.
Thanks!
Jesus the possibilities in this game! Also; adventure mode lags like fuck.
The lag is almost completely gone in the OpenGL version, let's hope Toady ports the new version to it soon.

It's already drying up.
Fuck, I pressed F1 on accident and now my screen keeps moving to the upper right and my menus are wierd
You call that a farm? It's already drying up.
God damn :v: 3x6 plump helmet farm is enough (for me) to power a 50 fortress.
Half of my starting food supply rotted D:
Oh no. While looking at the pretty plants... I found a little something. "Giant Cave Spider Web". Oh. No.
