Whoever says HL2 is overrated is probably a 12 year old. People appreciating an old game that was breakthrough at it's launch =/= It being overrated, it's the same with HL1 and a few others.
They just don't understand it's value.

Modern Warfare 2. 90% of it's players don't even have the first. I let my friend borrow it and he hated it. Asked him why. THE GRAPHICS SUCK!!!! It's on the same damn engine, not that big a deal.

So, if Half life 2, a game that manages to incorporate a different type of gameplay each chapter (Red Letter Day and Black Mesa East is your average Black Mesa Commute story level that's so famous with Valve, Route Canal is the fast-paced vehicle section, Highway 17 is the vehicle-with-some-on-foot-segments vehicle section, We Don't Go To Ravenholm is the basic Zombie Survival segment with added fun, and so on) while still blending the story flawlessly is a bad game, what is?.
