Sorry, no pictures.
Well, for the past five days I have been attending Comic-Con international 2008.
While there, I ran into the EA booth.
Nothing excited me at first, but then I saw Mirror's Edge.
An actual, functioning build.
It was on PS3, and an EA representative was playing.
He wouldn't let me or anyone else touch the controller as he showed us the gameplay.
It was the FULL FUCKING GAME.
I must say, it's spectacular.
He was skipping chunks that he didn't want use to see (and wouldn't let me photograph or record), but he showed us quite a few areas.
One the ones he was getting all excited over was the "Steamworks", modeled after those in Japan.
Dank, sewer-like areas.
The controls are also very basic.
He said the only buttons you would need are the x axis for running, and L2 for duck, and LI for jump.
When running, your character has actual momentum and physics.
If you don't have enough momentum, you can't roll, and if you have none, you can't slide.
When you're about to land, if you press duck your character will go into a roll, saving you precious life.
There is NO HUD.
There is only a dot in the center of the screen, mainly to help with simulation sickness.
Combat is highly unadvised. Disarming an opponent is advised.
Faith (the character you play has), also has "Reaction Time" (bullet time), that can help you play the combat.
When shot or hurt, the screen becomes saturated.
Faith dies after a few hits. (two or three)
Guns are usable, but this is also unrecommended.
The Rep told me that you gain an "achievement" for not using a single gun in the game. (Most likely a bonus at the end of a mission).
When you pick up a weapon, you have no idea how many bullets are in the clip.
When it's empty, Faith drops the gun.
You also cannot run with weapons, or grapple. You can hardly jump.
Another cool thing (that is toggleable), things that are recommended paths are highlighted red.
Whew! Sorry about that being a giant clusterfuck, but I couldn't think of a better way to describe it.
Hope you enjoyed reading!

If you have any questions, by all means ask, and I'll try to answer them.

You couldn't even sneak a picture?

There's been tons of shit on this game
Here's the first E3 trailer (All in game footage)

Well that's pretty cool. Thanks for telling us.

Yes, I saw that level played live.
That and 3 others.
That is NOTHING.
Only the beginning of the game.

I saw it on E3. I was one of very few games that excited me (for console games)
Was there motion controls being used since it was on the ps3? if there was, did they seem to work?

Thanks for sharing man. I've got to get this when it's available.

Yes, sick axis or whatever it is.
Tilting the controller.
It's only for balance when walking on pipes and such though.
Or leaning off ledges.
And it looked like it worked well.
Edit:
You're welcome.

I hate how this game comes out in the same week as GoW2 and L4D. I will ruin myself this fall.

Is this only PS3? Or will it be on the 360 too?

PC, 360, PS3 I think.

The Rep said PS3, 360, and PC.
In November!

Fucking awesome! Hope a demo will come out.

I recall him saying there will be.

They didn't allow you take a picture of Mirror Edge, but I did get a picture of when I was playing Crysis: Warhead and it crashed!

You were there?
Edit:
Tell me what you looked like!
I was wearing a Trilby.

I was there today... uhh... a dark green shirt with a dragon on it...
I'm sad that Valve didn't have a booth... I mean TF2 is like a cartoon, when Too Human has nothing to do with comics!
Ouh ya did you play Dead Space? I'm not really interested with it, but it looked cool, having it's own special line.
Nope, I didn't hang out much at the EA booth, after I found out Crysis Warhead was just Crysis with another name, and my friend found out that Battlefield Heroes was terrible, we just hanged out at the Spore booth!

I don't know if I saw you.
Edit:
Wait, are you Asian?

Mirror's Edge looks fucking awesome.
I'm looking forward to that and L4D, I'll most likely get Mirror's Edge on the PS3 and L4D on the pc.

You made one tiny flib, but it's enough to seem like you're lying, at least to me.
There's obviously more to the controls than that... You either are forgetting that combat isn't going to be linked to jumping and rolling, given we've seen standing kicks and firearms useage, or you just forgot about it/were only talking about movement.

The game isn't centered around combat.
The rep was very firm about this.
The attacks are automated, there is only one attack button.
There ARE buttons to disarm.
There ARE weapons.
You just don't need to use them, and it's NOT advised to use them cause they severely restrict movement.
Edit:
Think of it like Portal.
It's about the free running, not the combat.
Like Portal and portals.
Edit:
Oh yes, there is also a quick turn key, that makes you 180 rapidly.
Edit:
Also, UT3 engine, forgot to mention that.
Continuing my thread here!
I liked when the guy playing tried to show something, and he fails and dies.
"Let me show you this cool move that you can do!"
*Jumps off the side*
"Uhh... Well... I didn't do it that time..."
Yeah, he did that a lot. :v:
Like, he was trying to wall jump between these two buildings, and sometimes he aced it, but he also slipped a lot.
Yeah, he did that a lot. :v:

I remember once there was a red door, and for some reason he ran away from the door, hit a dead end, went back to the door, start running back and forth, then finally he went through the door, just to skip to another part...

Yeah, he didn't want to show us that part.
Part of the storyline.
It looks great but I'm wondering if it's going to have enough content to support a 60 dollar price tag. If so that's great but right now all I'm seeing is a linear single player campaign which justifies a rental in my eyes :/
No.
It's more than worth 60, I would gladly pay 100 for it.
No.

Woah. I think 60$ is a little to high from what I've seen.
I have an outstanding Hate for her Shoes.
I'm waiting for a Nike plug...it's imminent.

The thing is, with uch simplistic graphics, I am quite sure that the game will be VERY, VERY, VERY VERY long.
I've never heard of predicting a game's length by it's graphics?
I'm going to need a graphics card update for this one. I don't think a single 9800 GTX is going to be able to run this at a playable framerate with all settings high/maxed :sigh:

It's the UT3 engine, you'll be just fine.
I run the UT3 engine completely maxed on my 8800GT.
Yeah, Unreal Engine 3 is probably THE most optimized engine ever. The UT3 beta was utter rubbish, but the final product is incredible.
To all the people who dislike the fact that the main character is a female asian:
So freakin' what? If the character was male, no one would care if he was good looking or not. You don't even see the character's face most of the time. Just because she's a girl, she has to be 'hot' or else the game's not worth it? And because she's Asian? Again, so what? Not alot of videogames (except Japanese ones) have Asian protagonists, and these guys decided to not be like everyone else.
EDIT: Sorry for epic bump.
Next gen breakdown plox
What the hell's he worried about with a 9800. Eeven my 8600GT can run Unreal Engine 3 at full settings. Except in UT3 for some reason. :(
I'm going to need a graphics card update for this one
Yeah because a 9800GTX is not good.
Stop bragging.
EDIT: Sorry for epic bump.
Epic bump appreciated. This and Dead Space are the only two things I'm expecting good things of from EA.
The running stuff is awesome.
Edit: Reminds me of Assassins Creed
The theme is what that made the trailer awesome. Muting the video will make the video means NOTHING. This will be my favorite game among Crysis Warhead, Far Cry 2, Need for Speed: Undercover and Call of Duty: World at War.

You think that's impressive? I can max any UT3 game out right now on a measly 7600GT, as long as I keep the res down to either 1280*1024 (Bioshock, UT3) or 1024*768 (768 for GoWPC, using the better textures and shit).

I ran Warmonger maxed out with a 9600GT. Also, for those who say that she's ugly, she's not really that ugly. I actually like her.

With AA and AF?

Pretty ugly to me.
It's the most exaggerated Asian face I've seen.
I personally wouldn't give too much of a damn about the character model, if this game supports any modability at all, we can expect new character models within the month of release. Hell, then you can get Gordon Freeman + Alyx Vance in that shit.

Buy another one and go SLI :v:
