Briefcase
With the exception of the opening sequence in Episode One and the Episode Two sequence, the G-Man is always seen carrying a briefcase, and its contents have often been debated. In the original Half-Life, using the "noclip" cheat, or with the aid of a model/texture viewer, it is possible to see its contents. However, since the contents of the briefcase are never seen during the game, they may constitute nothing more than an Easter Egg. These contents appear to be as follows:
Three pencils
One sheet of paper
A handgun in a holster
An identity card
It must be noted that this only applies to his original Half-Life model, as the inside of his suitcase in the HD model and the Half-Life 2 one are blank.
Other
Near the Gargantua dam in the Opposing Force chapter Foxtrot Uniform, G-Man is seen for a moment talking on a cell phone before disappearing in a portal.

I always thought Gman never actual was his name
I thought Gman was his model name, simply because the had a suit and briefcase.
So he might not actually be a 'Gman'
Didn't Eli call him "The GMan" in Episode 2?
Didn't Eli call him "The GMan" in Episode 2?
No.
Gman is Garry Newman.
I vote: all of the above.

Why don't you search on youtube: "Gman Theory"
Well IMP all of this will answered in Episode 3.
I want it to be answered in Half-Life 3...
Extend the Mystery I say!
technically gman isnt his name. we dont actually know his name. in the game he is referred to but gman is an unofficial name. all i can remember is eli calling him our mutual friend.
(btw if someone else put this im sorry but i couldnt be arsed to read all of the posts)
His only real name known so far is "Our Mutual F(r)iend". There have been no actual names for him. Heck, G-Man was just a name Valve came up with to name the model.
It was a nickname given by the fans.
And you see that widow's peak on GMan's forehead? The point where his hair meets in the middle of his forehead, and it tapers to a little point? You are born with that, and Gordon doesn't have it.
Gordon Freeman =/= The GMan.
I dunno who he is but he's working with the vorts, i just fucking know it.
It was a nickname given by the fans.
.
No. Valve gave the name Gman and it's only a codename.
Now go home.
Because a gingery-brown haired guy with glasses who can't speak will become a blue haired guy without glasses who speaks.
Goatse Man
Didn't Eli call him "The GMan" in Episode 2?
I dont remember. Did he do that in the scene before the strider battle, after whitch he [sp]dies[/sp] ?
My theory:
I think GMan is a "keeper of time" sorta thing, what I mean is, he "contracts" people (like he did with Gordon at the end of HL1), because he knows certain events must occur (or be stopped from occurring). He puts you in stasis (a kind of sleep in which you do not age, remember Eli saying: "You haven't changed one iota!"?) until you are needed to do something.
Or he could indeed be the companion cube's cousin twice removed.
Why does everybody have an opinion on Gman
:eng99:
Valve is never going to reveal the Gman's background or name. Any real name they could possibly reveal would suck, and the mystery needs to stay that way.
Why does everybody have an opinion on Gman
:eng99:
Agreed. I don't know or care what his story is, he's a mysterious character with no hints as to who he really is, and that's an underused story element.

Go home kids.
