Well, there were alternative routes on some levels, but I can't help blaming the game for being far too linear. The first Crysis presented you with a vast island to explore and objectives scattered far apart. It was linear, but at least in a wide sense. Crysis 2 confines you to these incredibly tiny set pieces that basically start from point A and have a door/button/boss located at point B and while getting there you are forced to watch these irritating first person cut scenes and perform these "Press X to perform a trivial function" - quick time events. Why do are they even necessary? If there is something I hate it is taking the control away from me. And "Press X to look". Seriously.
And that's all there is to it. When you complete point B you'll be presented with a fancy wireframe computer graphic with dramatic music and some voiceover by some important sounding character. It's just an excuse to put you to a completely different location the next map. It's incredibly disappointing in every sense. It feels like I'm playing Modern Warfare.
And just like the first game, this one also turned into shit when the aliens arrived. If I'd like to play Halo, I'd play it thank you very much. And while the designs of the first game at least had some originality, these aliens are ripped off straight from Halo. When the gameplay is degraded to the level of the latest installments Call of Duty franchise and the setting and the story are what they are, Crysis 2 didn't really leave me with a good impression.
There were fun parts, I give you that. Like that one island level where you could actually explore a bit and have various approaches on how to complete the objectives, it was really fun. Most of the levels still were dull and boring cinematic shoot-em-up sequences that will probably appeal to the CoD-crowd.

Crysis 2 works just like Crysis warhead. Big rooms with enemies and/or objectives connected by corridors. Crysis 2 will always feel more cramped then both Warhead and Crysis 1 as the huge buildings works basically like walls that obscure the surrounding landscape.
I don't really understand how the start from point A and walk to B is anything different in Crysis 2 then in any other linear fps, Crysis 1 was the same, Warhead was the same.
I don't see how "press X to look" does anything bad, yeah it seems a bit stupid when the thing it points you towards is right in front of you, the only thing it does is make sure you don't miss anything.
The rest of the QTEs I don't see why you would complain about them, they are few and far between. The only true quicktime event there is is the "press f to grab ledge" alternating between mouse 1 and mouse 2 to crawl is hardly what I would call a quicktime event, neither is pressing space to activate a defibrillator.

Well, in Crysis the maps felt had this seamless transition. In the second game it's really abrupt, the missions felt like set pieces far apart, not a consistent experience. In Warhead there were 3 levels: one where you boarded the train, one that was set on the train and lastly one that continued when you took off it. In Crysis 2 the levels are hey you are now on the Liberty Island, the next moment you are fighting on the Times Square and then in the Central Park. There's always that fade and a cut scene. It's just so out of place.

Well, they weren't quicktime event in the sense, but annoying nevertheless. It's just "interactivity" for the sake of it. Why on earth would you need to press that button in the first place. It doesn't feel any more immersive that way. Imagine watching a movie and it pausing intermittently, requiring you to press a button on the remote.

wow look at this whiny bitch
yeah man FUCK those devs for coding something huge and awesome and giving the player an optional button to look at it FUCK THEM man
and stop complaining about QTEs, there's what, four of them in the whole game and they could barely even be called QTEs in the first place

This is a game.
Interactive multimedia application.
If you want to watch a movie, go watch a movie.

Okay I can agree with the seamless transition you never really jumped forward in time as much in the first games.

Well video games are kind of an interactive medium, so you kind of need interactivity for it to be a game. Comparing it to movies is stupid as movies they are 2 completely different things all together (hint one requires you to actually do stuff).
Well, I think I'm entitled to have my own opinion, having bought the game and all. I just think that having to push buttons or whatever will only distract me from watching the cutscene itself. Just like when playing a game, I want to be in control of it. When watching a movie/cutscene, you want to be able to focus on it. That was kinda to point of the movie analogy. I really think that it's futile for developers to try to enrich the cutscenes in the games with QTEs or such. It's not "control", it's just something that pauses the movie until you press a button therefore serving zero purposes.
This if of course my personal opinion, you might as well think that it immerses the player in the game world which is an opinion I don't share.
like pressing the buttons in gameplay distracts you from gameplay?
okay have fun with your ADD i guess
You could at least stop with your ad hominem arguments. The main point was that there's not real purpose why such buttons should be there.
you don't even know what that means
also there is
it's interactivity
you don't play a game to watch a movie, you play a game to play a fucking game

doesn't make my opinion right
what actually happens when you prestige? do you lose all your stats on the leaderboards? Also can somebody post a picuture of the dogtag what you unlock if you have it? THANKS

Ok this guy in the video reboots his nanosuit and all of his stats/kills/k.d everything basically gets removed even though it says just before you reboot 'Your statistics will be preserved'. Now i am definately not rebooting. It's not worth it because all what you basically get is a dog tag.

Uhh.. I sent an email to EA reguarding being unable to register with my username/email.
And I'm pretty sure from what I'm reading, they just sent me the CD key for a whole new copy.
What the shit.
[editline]15th April 2011[/editline]
Basically I asked them if there was a way I could use my old user/email from the beta, and so the guy reactivated it and it works fine.
My steam key still works, so that means I have an extra key floating around in my email. Wonder if it works....

I agree
I played that cutscene 3 times before I got through it. First time I died not even noticing the "Press F to grab" prompt. Second time I thought maybe I was given back control of Alcatraz, so I tried the movement keys to stop him from falling, then at the last second noticed the "Press F", which I did, but too late. Third time I actually made it through it.
There are so many cutscenes in this game were Alcatraz just moves by himself with no player input at all, so throwing in this one quick-time event seemed out of place to me, and I was not prepared for it. If a game is going to have quick-time events like this, it need to have them in almost every cutscene so that it's an actual part of the game. Throwing in one random QTE for no apparent reason is not good game design.

They gave me a key to download the game when my Nano Edition was delayed. I used that key, and gave my retail key to a friend and it worked fine.
Yeah, I'm hoping it works.
Funny thing is, i still can't log in on the website and redeem my LE bonuses.
Play for 30 minutes, obvious hacker shows up.
Le sigh.
Atleast my stuff saves now.
so i just got done playing on a pro server and was using stealth enhance III, mobility enhance III, and nano recharge II while running around punching everyone with the grenade equipped. i would run up to people while cloaked, switch to armor (for higher melee damage) one-hit kill them and then switch back to cloak with a bunch of energy still left. it was so much damn fun; could run across nearly the entire map while cloaked with those modules and kill anyone. and then i got banned for " cloak hacking".

I've never had melee one hit kill in armor mode, it's always been 2 hits and that's assuming the game registers them
I was playing on a pro server and getting one hit kills with the grenade equipped on armor mode. The melee damage might be different for other weapons.

I activated my LE key by making a new account.
Just finished...
mmm what an absolutely epic game - Best game I have ever played.
Good:
-Story (Basic, but Awesome)
-Gameplay
-Graphics
-Music
Bad:
-AI Glitches
-Shortness (Satisfactory, but the longer the better)
-Silent Alcatraz
EPIC really is the only way to describe it.
I don't think Alcatraz (assuming that we play him in Crysis 3) is going to be mute. The nanosuit was repairing his body, his lungs are probably fully repaired by the end of the game.
