Is the game worth 44$? I have heard mix feelings about the game.
Now, yes. At the release, not really.
And it'll be better in the future.
Just finished playing the campaign. Took me seven hours, rather short IMO.
Also, what's this talk about Sandbox 3?
[editline]1st May 2011[/editline]
Oh, it's leaked? From where can I get it, though? Google just gives me alot of bullshit hits.
Crytek releasing legal version of sandbox 3 in August with C++ and other programming mumbo jambo to go along with it.
The smart people are making maps now :).
I'm making a desert map, it's quite hectic.
Funfact: it's possible to load Crysis 1's maps in Sandbox 3.
No. I honestly have no interest in continuing past the second level, and this is coming from someone who played through the first multiple times.
The suit is terribly gimped. They took away something that could be very strategic, and streamlined the fuck out of it. I no longer feel like a badass, I feel like a regular guy who can go invisible, jump high, run at modest speeds, and deflect bullets. The strategy associated with balancing the suits is entirely gone, and now it's just press q when ur gettin shot and press e when u wanna hide.
The slide mechanic is annoying because the game doesn't let you dual bind keys, so crouch HAS to be c and not control because pressing ctrl+shift is not practical at all. Also they took out prone, are you fucking kidding me.
The pacing is absolutely atrocious. The game used to be a slower paced, more tactical shooter. The entire game feels about 120% faster than the previous game (except the running, which is actually slower), making precision much more difficult. I seriously can't get over WHY they made the gameplay so much quicker, and making the environments so claustrophobic. I could handle one or the other, but not together.
And lastly the environments fucking suck. I love the idea of a city, but this is taking one of the greatest sandbox shooters of all time, and turning it into a generic linear shooter. The formula goes large room, hallway, large room, hallway, etc. There is variance in the environments, but it makes no difference in how the game is played. The super jump is not as useful as it was in the first, because of making everything higher and requiring grabbing onto ledges. This would be fine except grabbing onto ledges is a set event, which not every environmental piece has. Getting the vantage is much more difficult due to this gimped platforming.
This game RUNS on the same engine as the original Crysis, but that's the only thing similar. This is a bastardization of the original game into a more "successful" formula, that I absolutely cannot stand. I cannot regret getting this game any more. I should've just got warhead.
Gimped? Youre saying a suit who used to take 5 bullets or a shotgun blast and would have its energy depleted making you run for cover at snail pace on the easiest of dificulties is better then a suit that can sustain alot more damage then it could?
The only good thing about the old suit was the speed mode idle running bonus. If you were to run, it would kill its energy in 5 seconds. You also don't need this in the new Crysis because it would make it even shorter since its a different, more tight environment.
Power mode was turned into something better which you don't need to switch to everytime.
Stealth mode actually is usefull since you don't have to hide behind every rock after walking 3 meters.
Armor mode can actually take damage without taking a bunch of hits and fucking up your health.
It's still strategic if you play on Post Human.
And who the hell cares about prone? Seriously! Will proning in a game make you feel good? Will it completly change your gaming experience because you can get down on your stomach and shoot? You could also bind your keys to something better instead of dual bind. Again, nitpicking.
The game used to be so slow at times that it got boring. You spent half of the game walking then doing anything else. I'll give you that the levels are smaller though.
And Crysis wasn't linear? You just went from village checkpoint to village checkpoint doing the same thing every single time.
And this runs on CryEngine3.
fucks sake can't they add a "join server when slot is available"? I've been waiting 5-10 minutes to join a server, but the Australian ones are all full. I got into one but Crysis 2 crashed.
[editline]28th April 2011[/editline]
any Australians here own the game?
Because there are like 10-20 games.on.net/GameArena servers and only 1-3 are ever populated.
Uh, quick join feature?
Last time I did that it put me into some server in Germany
I use it all the time and it doesn't matter where it places me, I always have good connection.
Right now there's only big problem i have with Crysis 2.
It favors the players with high ping. It's very annoying to play on a server where most players have 300 ping and you have like 50.

CryEngine 3 isn't a brand new engine, it's just CE2 with some new stuff.

Since I'm a nice person I won't tell you that you're talking absolute fucking bullshit out of your ass but instead I'll ask you to elaborate on that.

Arg :(
I soooo badly want to get a head start on mapping but school and work have me completely tied up at the moment.
I want to do an arctic sequel to the map I did for Crysis 1's ICMC contest. Though its gonaa be much harder since Crysis 2 doesn't have any kind of arctic textures or objects, which means it would probably take months of texturing work to even get started (and mind you I've not had the time to do mapping stuff for a year so I'm rusty...)
Holy shit K-Volt is awesome
Yesterday was a great day in terms of Crysis 2. I started to play again and I still felt the aiming was akward, so I turned down the mouse sensitivity to 35 since I kept over aiming.. and now I'm back. I'm not super good but I either break even to get really nice K:D scores.
Also I met my first hacker and it seemed like we couldn't get him out but I googled it, low and behold it was a console based vote kicking system. Our server kept not voting and all hope seemed lost. But on the fifth time we finally got enough votes. (I think it was actually me who didn't vote since I thought if you started the vote it already counted :V:) So yeah, I got the last vote and he was kicked, buahah.
TL;DR: I turned down my mouse sensitivity and started kicking ass. I met my first hacker and kicked him out of the server.

Oh also, I got drunk and disorderly tag.. but.. read the comment on the screenshot: http://steamcommunity.com/id/errorproxy/screenshot/540640929765832302?filter=app_99830
I think that tag is broken. I was top scoring and I got it. It only checks to see if it's after 11:30 PM.
I played with some fucktard using infinite cloak. He got his ass royally kicked.
Does Nano vision work in multiplayer?
Does Nano vision work in multiplayer?
Of course.
I keep seeing that CrytekProgrammer show up when people report cheaters. Good to see the little twat is getting what he deserves with vote kicking now in the game.
I still haven't played multiplayer yet, is it any good?
I still haven't played multiplayer yet, is it any good?
Yes. Sometimes it's total bullshit though.
But it's fun.
I find it more frustrating than fun.

Uh, what makes it a new engine? There's no reason to call it new because it's just CryEngine 2 with some new shaders, optimisation and a custom physics engine.

I usually avoid talking about game engines because it's mostly like talking about art with a blind person.
People throw the word around having absolutely no idea about what it exactly is.
Is sprinting still broken with higher FoVs? Cause it used to zoom you in whenever you sprinted. Going from 100 to 60 degrees gave me headaches.

It's a good job I'm correct then.
I find MP less frustrating than in BC2.

pl_movement.power_sprint_targetFOV is the variable that sets the sprinting FOV. Change that too.
