I have three worlds, but I've only built a hell portal in World 2 untill now. So today I felt like making one World 3, and was greeted by the exact same landscape and fortress that I built in my world 2 save. Is this normal?

Turning on hellworld is telling the server to generate a hell world map, you still can't use the portals.
aka it would overwrite existing chunks, unless notch fixed that.

-Do torches burn out now? And if they do how do I make lanterns?

Make a portal with obsidian like this. X is any block O is obsidian.

Make a rectangle out of obsidian.. 4 across the ground, 5 high, then another 4. Then light the middle with the Flint and steel.

Watch for Ghasts, If your going to build there make sure your walls are thick/chunky.

in the server.properties change the line
"monsters=false" to "monsters=true"
Also bloodstone is very useful if you want to light place up. Unless that place is out of wood.
Bloodstone is a permanent lightsource after you use flint n steel on it and has quite a big light. Also can hurt mobs.

For colonization, dont build your shelter out of anything that can burn. Look for higher ground and possibly build your shelter near a lightstone depot.
Sorry if this has been asked before, but when I do a fresh install of Quandary texture pack, newest version my grass comes looking out like this.

I'm assuming this isn't intended since other peoples screenshots seem to turn out differently, and the sides of the grass and tops don't look right.
If anybody could explain or tell me how to fix, would be super appreciated.
