[QUOTE=Larry_G;25990596]Mining is buggy as hell in SMP, it's really annoying.[/QUOTE] [QUOTE=Onyx3173;25990599]Notch is trying to break everything. The update today (yesterday? Damned time zone differences are confusing at 3AM...) was supposed to be a lot of bugfixes for SMP but stuff got screwed up. The most annoying thing on SMP right now is that blocks tend to regenerate 2-3 times or so when you try to mine something or even do so much as pick up a torch.[/QUOTE] sounds like fun
Well, I really need to get to sleep now. My stepdad gets home in an hour and a half and I tend to take about an hour on average to fall asleep... Goodnight Minecraft thread!

[QUOTE=Onyx3173;25990509]He meant mods such as autocart and the minimap. AO isn't something he's planning n including in the game but it's not one that messes with the game in a way he dislikes.[/QUOTE] Actually, Notch tweeted the creator of the AO mod and expressed his disinclination towards it. The regeneration is mass lag. I get it when I play on servers on the other side of the world. Mass, mass lag.
I'm getting tired of the biomes, because all they are is just sand sand sand
[QUOTE=TheCake Is A Lie;25990678]The regeneration is mass lag. I get it when I play on servers on the other side of the world. Mass, mass lag.[/QUOTE] Minecraft [b]Alpha[/b]
Yeah but it used to be ok though. :v:
[QUOTE=defyant;25990674]wtf "stop doing things i let you do"[/QUOTE] DURRR you obviously know nothing about code and binaries. In order to create a mod like the AO mod or gameplay changers, you have to extract the minecraft jar, [B]decompile[/B] the class files and fuck with them. This is illegal and notch has no real way of protecting against it.

[QUOTE=Jallen;25990769]No.[/QUOTE] i see well then oh well, i'm still going to download mods :effort:

What does Notch have against mods?
I'd be happy if some guys would make [B]my[/B] code even more awesome . . .
[QUOTE=dkamm65;25990874]Deleting mods from the forum would be more detrimental to his publicity than the mods are to the game.[/QUOTE] he's got a metric shit-tonne of money, i honestly dont think it would matter
[QUOTE=defyant;25990928]he's got a metric shit-tonne of money, i honestly dont think it would matter[/QUOTE]It would flush his indie cred down the toilet faster than one could say Micro$oft, which would have an impact on future sales.
[QUOTE=Sgt Doom;25990934]It would flush his indie cred down the toilet faster than one could say Micro$oft, which would have an impact on future sales.[/QUOTE] well i guess he could just place a ban on mods, until it hits final or something, or at least just dont post mods i dono
[QUOTE=proch;25990921]I'd be happy if some guys would make [B]my[/B] code even more awesome . . .[/QUOTE] Personally I wouldn't mind either, but he sort of has this trust with the users, allowing them to have the game drm free and all that, he might see those mods as a breach of that trust. Also now with him forming a company and talking to lawyers and stuff he might be trying to keep it on the straight and narrow in case someone does try to rip him off.
I think he doesn't do anything because he knows that modders will find a way. Just like in other games. e.g. GTA IV, they did shitloads against mods, and yet there are terabytes of mods on the web.
[QUOTE=Inacio;25990914]Maybe decompiling and deobfuscating [B]his[/B] code? :downs:[/QUOTE] correct me if Im wrong, but isn't modding, the decompiling and deobfuscating of code, what helped get valve so incredibly successful?
[QUOTE=WillerinV1.02;25991099]correct me if Im wrong, but isn't modding, the decompiling and deobfuscating of code, what helped get valve so incredibly successful?[/QUOTE] no Valve gives you some code which has never been compiled to mess with they don't give you full source, to get that you have to decompile and deobfuscate the code, and that's illegal
I'm buying Minecraft Friday. Woo
[QUOTE=proch;25991068]I think he doesn't do anything because he knows that modders will find a way. Just like in other games. e.g. GTA IV, they did shitloads against mods, and yet there are terabytes of mods on the web.[/QUOTE] it's same as with pirates, he's frowning upon them but not going to bother trying to fix the situation since pirates and modders will find a way it'd be massive waste of time, like he has said.
[QUOTE=WillerinV1.02;25991099]correct me if Im wrong, but isn't modding, the decompiling and deobfuscating of code, what helped get valve so incredibly successful?[/QUOTE]Valve's code was never decompiled or deobfuscated (obfuscation is a fairly unique thing with Java, as the compiling process renders other code types unreadable by humans anyway), they provided a comprehensive modding package.
[QUOTE=Sgt Doom;25991171]Valve's code was never decompiled or deobfuscated (obfuscation is a fairly unique thing with Java, as the compiling process renders other code types unreadable by humans anyway), they provided a comprehensive modding package.[/QUOTE] Well technically the whole thing was decompiled and "stolen" in 2005-ish and that set Half-Life 2 back a year, but that's a different issue entirely. [editline]11th November 2010[/editline] [QUOTE=Fippe;25991170]it's same as with pirates, he's frowning upon them but not going to bother trying to fix the situation since pirates and modders will find a way it'd be massive waste of time, like he has said.[/QUOTE] I don't really see why Notch is upset about mods. He codes in Java, one of the easiest code languages to decrypt, of course people are going to edit the class files and make mods, because they're so easy to mess with. I'm not saying it's his fault, I'm just saying that he has no reason to be upset because they aren't stealing the code, they're using it for themselves to make mods for the [i]same game they took it from[/i], which is completely different.
[QUOTE=Onyx3173;25987436]His newest update is here: [url]http://www.mediafire.com/?3222ltf08d2hj63[/url] However to make it compatible with the pack chooser, you'll actually have to unzip it then go into the folder it unzips into and select everything then rezip it. [editline]10th November 2010[/editline] Well not 100% but I think that's Notch. Like Nerdy mentioned earlier, destroying blocks is an absolute nightmare. About 3/4 of them take 2-3 tries just to destroy them.[/QUOTE] Actually, my latest release is compatible with thet texture pack support, last time I checked. Also, next release (v2.2) will have a redone bark texture, redone flowers/mushrooms, and a redone sappling texture, and of course some fixes and sligh improvements.
[i] What is a creeper? I have not met one of those Walking explosions [/i]
Nearly burnt down my entire house, despite the fireplace being completely surrounded by stone on all adjacent blocks. What the fuck?
