Back on topic, I guess. Today I started a new save and went mining. It was the first night, I had nothing. Let's just say I ended up having 70+ iron, and when I left the mine and was building a houssSSSSSSSSS

One of the houses I built under the second portal. 2 of the rooms are malformed as they were approaching the edges of the hill; I didn't want them to lose their cover of dirt/sand. I'll build more houses in that hill, each underneath the other like a dirt mound apartment block, and give them some nicer interior decorations.
