The option is there to hit their weapon, but the chance to hit is so ridiculously low early on that you might as well not bother.
I've noticed that there's a lot of discrepancies with VATS, namely how the chances to hit seem to be randomly generated rather than based on limb position and target distance (or rather, they are based on those two things, but never seem to work properly). At the very least, you can't target limbs behind cover, but it seems too easy to hit everything early on.
EDIT:
Plus the repetitiveness of melee combat in VATS. I'd be content with at least a choice between fast and slow attacks (i.e. less AP cost for less damage, allowing you to deal with multiple weak enemies or more AP cost for more damage for single targets) or maybe the ability to chain combos and at most, the same kind of variety you get with guns.
The problem seems to be that when calculating accuracy, VATS doesn't take your skill with the weapon into account as much as its power and how far your target is.

Radio's very annoying as well, especially the talk show portions. Hard to believe that things have settled down so well for there to be such a thing.
If I could make a radio station, it would probably be someone broadcasting pre-war material (e.g. news reports on the battles in Alaska and in newly annexed Canada, presidential addresses, etc.) and music.
EDIT:
Irony would come in the form of a talk show no less: the frenzied far right claiming that America will win a nuclear war, the loony left claiming there won't be one. Also, vastly inaccurate pre-war weather reports, including rain, snow and smog clouds. :excited:
Doesn't sound much higher than Oblivion, but that doesn't surprise me since Bethsoft even said they hadn't made many major changes to the engine since Oblivion.
Thankfully, I'll be able to run it on high. Let's hope you can have HDR AND AA this time. I hated having to force it with nhancer, since I don't use it for anything else.
Sounds like it's going to be playable on my system as well. Might need to upgrade.
Shit, must get this game when it comes out.
I first read that as "This game must be shit when it comes out" :raise:
I was almost ready to start my fanboy shit.
I've only been playing it for about an hour now. I had to drop the controller for a minute as I was at risk of going blind from overexposure to awesomeness.

I take it you liked Oblivion then.

Holy shit I just barely make this, I hope my X2 6000+ will be able to handle it.
So a lot of people already got their hand on a copy now?
Damn where you guys getting these from!
I take it you liked Oblivion then.
Why not? Oblivion was an awesome game.

It's either some video game shop staff are giving copies to friends or the subsequent leak floating around on the internet.
To be honest, I find it funny. All this shit about how piracy is doing in PC gaming and here we have people already playing the console version. I wouldn't mind it being stopped because Bethesda actually deserve to see something come of this game.
Don't get me wrong - it's like how Barnes writes about Noah from the bible in A History of the World in 10 1/2 Chapters: they're only the most deserving in comparison to a lot of rather nasty characters.

It had about as much depth as a beach blonde. Shivering Isles is the only thing that made me go back to playing it Vanilla for a couple of months.

You have it?

Well, if I could get my grubby hands on it I would, then buy the full version once it is out.

Oblivion is a great game. Just has some flaws that make it look much more shittier than it really is.

Well, I guess I like beach blondes then :sigh:

I'd give you a winner or a gold star, but I guess I can only rate you funny :(

Nothing wrong with getting attracted to one, but if we're keeping with the stereotype, I don't think the term 'staying power' can be applied to them. Oblivion started out fine, then it started to drag. No depth, a distinct lack of consequence for your actions and a world which, despite claiming otherwise, felt more static and humdrum than Morrowind.
Well give them a chance to show you what they've learned and improved on since 2005.
Well give them a chance to show you what they've learned and improved on since 2005.
I will, but having seen footage of the leak, it's looking like a very slim chance.
I can see the similarities to oblivion, but it's improved to the point where i don't notice it unless i'm specifically comparing this and oblivion like a lot of you guys are doing.
We're entitled to do so. After all, this seems to be more of a spinoff of the Elder Scrolls series rather than a sequel to either Fallouts. Bethesda seem to have just taken random, inappropriate elements of both Fallout games and tried to make it work with Gamebryo and the foundations of Oblivion.
I played a lot of oblivion and yet from what i've seen fallout 3 doesn't remind me of it.
The way the map works, and faces are the only thing i see that actually remind me of Oblivion

Melee fights are a button-mashing clusterfuck (even in VATS) with everyone rushing around you randomly and the dialogue is sub-par (in writing and execution), with the speakers seeming robotic and static with their facial and body expressions. I'm also finding it very difficult to believe that the interface is is going to be PC friendly in the slightest.
Then there's how everything is offered up to you on a silver platter: the armoured vault suit, sensitive plot details which should have been kept in reserve for much later in the game than some simple fetch quest and ridiculous amounts of gear through so little effort.
To be fair, that last part applies more to how much emphasis on being a shooter there is compared to being an RPG: the game encourages you at every turn to invest in firearms, from the very small number of enemies who don't have guns, the weightless ammo and powerful weapons left lying around. In trying to add an element of scavenging to it, they've gone too far and left ridiculous kinds of loot lying around.
At least they've finally made it so in the long run, you'll benefit more from sticking with skills you're good at. It was amazing (in Oblivion) how many strongly combat oriented items I found in chests which a warrior wouldn't usually be able to open, whereas in Fallout 3, they're outside of chests or in unlocked containers (which you won't be able to use as well if you have a low skill in that weapon, but still too well); the good stuff is still locked up so if you focus on combat, you aren't going to be able to get everything.
I see what you mean there, but fallout 3 does look a LOT better than oblivion, despite the similarities. even if it isn't true to the previous fallout games (which i'm playing at the minute (love them)) i'll still thoroughly enjoy it, which is what's most important in a game. enjoyment.
I've not been viewing fallout 3 as a sequel to the previous games, rather a separate game that carries the same name, since i only recently got into the older fallouts. that may be warping my view on the matter.

Wait wait wait, wouldn't you be whining about item leveling if this was the other way around?
Wait wait wait, wouldn't you be whining about item leveling if this was the other way around?
No. I would appreciate it though, if you had a much tougher time than Raiders in getting the kind of loot I've seen so far. What you get at the end of a dungeon (using this terminology for Fallout 3 because essentially, that's all any place filled with hostile creatures and loot in an RPG really is) should reflect the length and difficulty.
Edit:
That is how you make looting the places you enter more viable and more rewarding, as it usually requires you to fight for it. It works for stealth based gameplay as well: if you're found and have to resort to fighting, you'll have an even tougher time than a character made for combat.
I don't know what's worse, level scaling or the weapons being everywhere (if fadeaway isn't exaggerating)
Well they said that you'd see and be able to use high power weapons from the beginning, but they have like less than 1 clip's worth or something. So they can introduce you to them early on and let you toy with them. I don't know what you man by level scaling.
