Do you even know what the story is?
Something about dreams and shit and thats why it's got the platformer stuff? If you fall you die in your dream and hence IRL.
That's obviously not the story. That's the basis of making death make sense in a video game.
Go read a synopsis or something.
Something about dreams and shit and thats why it's got the platformer stuff? If you fall you die in your dream and hence IRL.
So you don't know what the story is about and you don't understand the game.
What are you still doing here?
Platforming's far better suited to casual gaming, don't you think? If this game's selling point is some relationship drama bullshit plus some platforming, it doesn't sound like a solid base for a good game to me.
I take it you haven't played the majority of the games released in the 90s.
So you don't know what the story is about and you don't understand the game.

So if I don't know everything about the story I can't bitch about how this game looks shitty and sexualized?
So if I don't know everything about the story I can't bitch about how this game looks shitty and sexualized?
Well, yeah, kind of.
[editline]24th July 2011[/editline]
You don't seem to know much about the gameplay either.
So if I don't know everything about the story I can't bitch about how this game looks shitty and sexualized?
It isn't really that sexualized, only that one specific character is.
The story is mainly about a guy who is afraid of Marriage and commitment with his girlfriend, Katherine. Catherine is a flirty girl who appeared in his life and now the player decides to not make vincient be afraid of commitment anymore or run off with catherine and avoid commitment entirely. Puzzle game thrown into it to add the psychological Shit that he is currently in (His troubles try to kill him in his dream puzzle game part and he escapes by climbing up to the top of the place to the door.)
it's more like a moral choices and linear story thrown into a puzzle game.

It's a cool sounding concept but I don't think it'd be worth the full price for an Xbox game in my opinion. Maybe $20.
But you're right, having nudity and sex in it automatically makes its story be on par with hentai, just like all media with nudity and sex in it, and the only people who play it are sweaty neckbeards who want to fap to weaboo shit, even though you could find far more explicit and fap-centric hentai stuff
[editline]24th July 2011[/editline]
And don't get me wrong, I hate pretentious "EET IZ ART YOU JUST DONT GET EET!" media, but it really is pretty unique. The platforming feeds into the story well.
I don't see where I stated everyone who enjoys this game is a horny fat neckbeard who needs advanced fap material, but okay, if that's what you're seeing, I think that speaks for itself.
And to be honest all I'm getting from most of the people defending this game is "you just don't understand it it's so deep" and all this other pretentious bullshit (don't worry you're not one of them), it's just driving me away from trying this game.
It's a cool sounding concept but I don't think it'd be worth the full price for an Xbox game in my opinion. Maybe $20.
Kinda agree, but then again everyone says atlus's persona team makes amazing shit so yea
i have honestly no clue how deep it really is but it seems interesting and fun so why not.
the japanese version has been out for a while so i guess you can look at the spoilerriffic summary and decide for yourself (wouldn't recommend it though)
The second I saw that it was being made by Atlus, I knew that this thread's title was bull. Atlas could make a game about raping puppies to death, and make it goofy as fuck. It's brilliant.

I'd really have to sit down and try it but I'm just not seeing the origin of the praise this game's getting.

There's always the 360 and PS3 demo you could test out

But I've been explaining everything to you. I never once said "you don't understand" unless you really just didn't like with the platforming.
Then I guess it's a good thing there's no actual nudity or sex in the game and it's just implied or off screen v:v:v
Most you see is Catherine's bare back and it's only for a second. Also it's kind of hard to call it a platforming game when there's no platforming to be had, it's a pure fast pace puzzle game and sorry you're judging it by it's cover alone Protocol!
Edit: If you don't care for it that's cool not saying you have to, but don't judge everything just from a small trailer or the marketing campaign, I can't compare it perfectly to a game as I haven't played the full version but it almost sounds like a silent hill type of thing to me and that's what interests me. (That and from what I've heard the end goes typical atlus bullshit crazy)
There are false stereotypes for all sorts of things. For example, the fact that your youtube channel has a bunch of black ops videos would suggest that you were some 12 year old idiot kid that swears a lot and embarrasses American culture. Not to mention, being American would suggest that you're dumb, fat and completely don't care about anything apart from your own country's affairs.
But i'm 99% sure that none of that is true.

Fair enough, but I didn't jump off the bat saying that this game was fap material for fat sweaty neckbeards either.

I don't see how "Do you know what the story is? Not entirely? Google it" is any acceptable form of explanation, but if it is, then damn, you're good.

Judging by the "in depth explanation" I'm receiving I won't be missing much other than my money if I buy this. Just sayin'.

I told you to google it cause I didn't want to type out it out cause I didn't think it would be difficult to google.
But here ya' go, I did all the hard work for you
[release]In the neighborhood in which Vincent lives, there have recently been a number of bizarre incidents in which people die in their sleep with a look of anguish upon their faces. Strangely enough, all of the victims are young men. The story quickly spreads throughout the media, attracting widespread attention and theories as to the cause of death. A strange rumor begins to spread that if a person dreams of falling, then they must wake up soon or they will be unable to wake at all and die.
Vincent is at a bar contemplating marriage to Katherine, his lover of five years who is pressuring him to get married, when he meets a beautiful and mysterious woman named Catherine. Although there are many vacant seats she sits next to Vincent and she turns out to be exactly his type. The two end up spending the night together at Vincent's house.
After meeting the woman, Vincent begins to have nightmares every single night, which he believes may be related to the rumors. In these dreams, he and several other men, who appear to him as sheep, must escape from various horrors trying to kill him, for if he dies in his dream, he will die in reality. As dreams and reality begin to blend together, Vincent must not only fight to survive, but he must choose between Katherine and Catherine.[20][/release]

Actually I think Wii60 and MasterG handled it a lot better in about half the space of the wikipedia copypasta but alright, thanks.

Just so you know, the blocks do get kind of asshole driven, and being chased by a monster with a chainsaw while dealing with it is stressful as fuck. Here's the games block types, I'll list them here in no real order.

Super Meat Boy.
Super Meat Boy.
Didn't like that, to be honest. And neither does it have at least an interesting story to go along with it.

The difference being I actually bought and played Super Meat Boy and did not find it to be enjoyable.

Actually, I loved Meat Boy's story. Really fits in well with the goofy art style.
And honestly, I wouldn't pay 60$ for that game either, 20 seems like a fair price.

I thought it was a cute story but I didn't enjoy the core gameplay. It was basically muscle memory once you got to the harder levels. There's no fun in pressing A at the right time, but at least Catherine has puzzle elements.
The storyline sounds interesting, and I like the concept, but I'm not sure I can stand the puzzling. Can we get this rereleased as a visual novel or something? :v:

well that was the point of meat boy, i mean if someone was going in there intending to beat a level on their first try then they are sorely mistaken. Its probably the most extreme platformer there is. The only way to really enjoy a game of super meat boy is to be the kind of person that is proud of completing a very difficult task. I beat the entire game, with almost A+ on all levels, and i loved that moment when i completed a level, especially after watching all of those failed attempts.
I would say this game would have a similar feel. It rewards you on doing the puzzle efficiently and quickly, almost like super meat boy. Its kinda both a platformer and puzzle so ill probably enjoy it. Yet i do agree the price is a little steep. I would pick it up for $35 or less. Also, the game has already been released in Japan i believe and even they think the game is too hard. So i think we are looking at a meat boy difficulty puzzle platformer.
Also, there is more to it than the dream sequences. You can also play during the cut scenes by choosing what he texts to each girl and that influences the moral of the situation (not sure if it affects the difficulty of the dream sequence. would be cool though). So there is a lot more to the game than what the title infers. (the ol' 'dont judge a game by its cover')
fun fact the game was so hard in japan they actually released a patch to downgrade the difficulty.
http://www.siliconera.com/2011/02/20/atlus-preparing-patch-to-fix-catherines-difficulty/
we get the post-patch version too

in the Stray sheep bar there is also stuff you can use there to train in the nightmare parts (it's a arcade machine that has the same gameplay elements as the nightmare part but it's there to help you get better at it.)
