well that was the point of meat boy, i mean if someone was going in there intending to beat a level on their first try then they are sorely mistaken. Its probably the most extreme platformer there is. The only way to really enjoy a game of super meat boy is to be the kind of person that is proud of completing a very difficult task. I beat the entire game, with almost A+ on all levels, and i loved that moment when i completed a level, especially after watching all of those failed attempts.
I would say this game would have a similar feel. It rewards you on doing the puzzle efficiently and quickly, almost like super meat boy. Its kinda both a platformer and puzzle so ill probably enjoy it. Yet i do agree the price is a little steep. I would pick it up for $35 or less. Also, the game has already been released in Japan i believe and even they think the game is too hard. So i think we are looking at a meat boy difficulty puzzle platformer.
Also, there is more to it than the dream sequences. You can also play during the cut scenes by choosing what he texts to each girl and that influences the moral of the situation (not sure if it affects the difficulty of the dream sequence. would be cool though). So there is a lot more to the game than what the title infers. (the ol' 'dont judge a game by its cover')
As I said in the OP things like how much beer you drink effects your movement speed in the nightmares, in the hub world you can chat with bar patrons to learn how they survive the dream sequences (and you can give them tips as well that could save their lives). People can stop showing up if you ignore them implying that they died.
Lots of deep stuff inbetween it.
Contrary to popular belief, a lot of games are easier in Japan than America. A lot of the "normal mode" japanese games are "easy mode" in America / Europe. For example resident evil 4. But yeah, I agree with you.
Reminds me of how Rockman 2 had a 'normal' and 'hard' difficulty selection at the title screen, but for whatever reason America/Europe had their games stuck on 'hard' in Mega Man 2. :v:
Is this game really that difficult? I mean, it looks chaotic as fuck, but a post-release patch for balancing it? Geez.
Giant bomb did a quick look of Catherine with one of the atlus guys with them. It's 30 minutes of showing all the game off with small spoilers in it. It should give you a idea for the feel
Giant Bomb Seems to do the best in terms of game previews.
i was laughing my ass off at the Gran turismo 5 one because the game kept bitching at them to change the ps3 clock

Oh, right, because the Xbox is total shit, and the PS3 has gone tits-up ever since the attack on PSN! ~:v:~
Thanks to your info I have a different concept of the game. I though it was only porn, porn and more porn.

Nah, man. It's now porn, puzzles, and more porn.
I feel bad for Gamestop, everyone's gonna buy the shit outta this game thinking it's porn and Gamestop's gonna be getting returns for the next 3 months.

I can imagine going into a store and seeing a stand up on the counter with "Catherine is not a porn game" on it
People saying it's porn... i've seen more nudity in a before-watershed HBO family film.
It's clearly porn, because it has an anime woman on the cover.
Just when I thought it couldn't get any more weird, the protagonist is a saytr in polka dot boxers.
It's clearly porn, because it has an anime woman on the cover.
Well I saw some pictures on Gamespot before looking into any detail about it and immediately thought it was some kind of porn. Also I wish this was on pc. :(
I fucking hate anything anime related, and no it's not because I'm racist, not cuz I drink a gallon of haterade everyday.
It's the same reason I hate justin beiber, the fanbase fucking sucks.
I don't understand what makes this game this game "mature" more than any other
also this looks like anime Q-bert

The story is the mature bit, the gameplay is Atlus being Atlus. Also it looks nothing like Q-bert.

what exactly makes the story more mature than any other story?
to be honest i don't like both covers at all
not my style really
what exactly makes the story more mature than any other story?
Why does it matter that it's super mature or not? The fact they use temptation as a plot device and in the marketing shows that they're going about risque things in a mature fashion.
Get over yourself if you think you're above seeing skin or maybe even tits in a very shocking way. Don't use this game as a means to show other people how mature you are compared to a video game that teases people with tits.
what exactly makes the story more mature than any other story?
how you have to choose whether to keep cheating or do the moral thing and end things with the other woman. I mean its better than just having a fast paced puzzle game, i think its kinda cool they added a story that can influence the puzzle levels.
to be honest i don't like both covers at all

i hate the covers because its completely misleading, sure sex sells but looking at this thread, most people dont know the slightest when it comes to what this game is about. Sure theres the occasional boob and ass shown, but thats such a small part of the game that people miss the rest of it. So when people buy this thinking its fucking porn (which is fucking sad, because actual porn games are usually rated A, and you can get free stuff online) they are sorely mistaken.

doesn't the "get over yourself" go the other way around if you think that having tits in a game makes it mature?
this game is mature in the same way that all the porn games on Newgrounds are mature, or mass effect, or any other game that uses "choices" or "temptation"

I don't agree with that's what makes this story mature. It's a mature thing in a video game to have choices and consequences, but that alone doesn't make something mature.
I find the game to be taken seriously is that it tells a story of someone very very immature, who has committed a very immature act and is told in a creative, conservative (given the context) and interesting way without it being asinine at all. It's a tough subject to tackle in a horror/drama light especially with the ideas of temptation and how they use temptation as the image they want to represent the game.
Tbh i think it's mature to the fact it's dealing with personal relationships and cheating.
but hey thats just me

Nope. It doesn't work like that. I never said it's mature because it has tits. I said it's immature to handle a situation with nudity in the way you're handling it but the fact the game has hints of boobs and nudity doesn't make it mature. The way they approach it is mature, the way they utilize what nudity is to people is mature.

and how is that?
rather than waste another post I'll answer you here
how do they use nudity?
I've already explained it.

well, its more of the way they introduce it to the player that makes it mature or not. They could have made it an incredibly sexualized silly game like DOA volleyball and have no redeeming quality about it. Technically that game was about having relationships with women because you needed to give her presents to get to take pictures and hang out with her. It was a shallow game though because it basically made relationships out to be "give women presents, receive cleavage". This game however has a morality aspect included in it where you choose what to do and your actions have consequences both good and bad. Sometimes its even difficult to see what the good thing to do in the situation is, which makes it more complex and adds the grey area that is similar to making these decisions in real life, because lets face it, in real life not everything is so black and white.

Morality plays a big role apparently
Morality, surprisingly enough, does play a role in all of this. You're not just on a set path here, you can influence the way things turn out. To a degree. Vincent can either follow the blue morality, which seems to represent order, or the red, which represents chaos. The ordered path is the way that society expects you to act – be responsible, get married, raise a family and be stable / dependable. Chaos on the other hand is all about doing what you want. Wanna go out and drink with friends? Have fun. Want to hook up with a hot chick? Done. Shirk your responsibilities? Go for it.
The game tests your moral stance in so many instances it's not even funny. You are given questions while in the dream world, at the end of every puzzle, that influence it but these are only the obvious ones. While in the Stray Sheep and interacting with your friends you can also influence it by what you tell them. Encourage someone to settle down and watch your blue go up. Extol the virtues of a harem and watch your red go up. It's a fairly subtle system that really bases who Vincent truly is on more than just a few choices. You're shaping who Vincent is over the course of the game and who he will be in the future which gives it a much greater impact than such systems in most other games.
You will also communicate with your dueling female acquaintances via the use of your cell phone. Each message is composed of two to four sentences you pick from a number of pre-set dialogue options. Mixing and matching these allows you to pretty nicely tailor your messages to how you, the player, are feeling. It's possible to send a message that gives mixed signals, some choices being nice and some being mean, to avoid any sort of morality shift. This even further enhances your ability to shape Vincent by his responses to people.
