5. To what degree do you think people can be negatively affected by violent video games? That they shoot up their school. Only in Finland!
If i could rate you dumb, i would.

No
5. To what degree do you think people can be negatively affected by violent video games?

6. What is your opinion on video game bans?
Unnescesary. If kids/teens are affected by video games, it's their parent's fault, or they were already mentally unstable.
1. How old are you?
18
2. In what country are you currently living in?
USA
3. How often do you play games with graphic violence?
3-4 hours a week
4. Do you know anyone who has been negatively affected by violent video games?
Yes, but lots of people who play violent video games have always been douches. Now they're douches that want to join the army.
5. To what degree do you think people can be negatively affected by violent video games?
No doubt that people get affected subliminally, especially with a repetitive game-play like MW2 or many other FPS's . Will they go around shooting up school? No, but there are crazies everywhere.
6. What is your opinion on video game bans?
You really have to draw a line at banning stuff. The country might end up like China, North Korea, or heaven forbid Australia (jk). It's like banning a piece of art or literature, its pointless because then it gets more coverage.
1. How old are you?
12
2. In what country are you currently living in?
United States of America

no
5. To what degree do you think people can be negatively affected by violent video games?
only if they are too young

someone should be allowed to buy the intended version of the game by the developers if they are 18+ or it has been approved by a parent or legal guardian

4. Do you know anyone who has been negatively affected by violent video games?
No
5. To what degree do you think people can be negatively affected by violent video games?
It depends, someone could be negatively affected depending on mental state and age.
6. What is your opinion on video game bans?
Why should they? It isn't our fault that some idiot gave a 6 year old Left 4 Dead 2 or Just Cause 2. Parents need to realize that it's their fault for buying their kids a rated M video game, not the company's.
1. How old are you?
67

1. How old are you?

Younger children 7-12 can be highly influential but there are alot of other factors to consider.
6. What is your opinion on video game bans?
Fascism. The government should not tell parents how to raise their children. How does a child get 60$ to buy a game without parents knowing? bad parenting is to blame imo.
1. How old are you?
21
2. In what country are you currently living in?
USA
3. How often do you play games with graphic violence?
Mass majority of my library overall is T-M games with Violence/Blood at the least
4. Do you know anyone who has been negatively affected by violent video games?
Pretty much 6-13 year olds
5. To what degree do you think people can be negatively affected by violent video games?
The amount of time exposed (minus) The maturity level of the person = Level of negative effect
6. What is your opinion on video game bans?
Let parents be the parents and let them decide what they want their children to see. It is obvious the parents to blame when their children "sneak" a game or movie even if the parents say otherwise. Which is why when I have children, they are only gonna play classic Atari/NES games until they are 13. Yes, I am that evil :-D
1. How old are you?
12
2. In what country are you currently living in?

Nearly everyday
4. Do you know anyone who has been negatively affected by violent video games?
Never
5. To what degree do you think people can be negatively affected by violent video games?
If they are incredibly swayed by fiction and all they see is dead people, blood, guns, you can finish the rest
6. What is your opinion on video game bans?
Overreaction, all they do is stop people from enjoying the fun. It should not be a federal offence to play a violent game and it is ridiculous that people are being arrested for doing things like this. Countries such as Australia are getting a bit notorious for banning games such as Left 4 Dead 2 and Fallout 3 for being too violent. Just because the big, sturdy man in the T.V is shooting Germans with un-erringly good aim with a pistol that is 60 years out of date, doesn't mean little Jimmy, who barely even knows how a gun works, will do the same.
3. How often do you play games with graphic violence?
Yes
What?
1. How old are you?
15

Daily
4. Do you know anyone who has been negatively affected by violent video games?
Yes
5. To what degree do you think people can be negatively affected by violent video games?
It depends on your ability to be influenced by peers/other sources such as tv or games
6. What is your opinion on video game bans?
They are a good thing if they are actually used right, removing flying gibs after death from a guy that already looks like a pile of moving shit is not going to change much.
1. How old are you?
17
2. In what country are you currently living in?
Australia
3. How often do you play games with graphic violence?
Not often
4. Do you know anyone who has been negatively affected by violent video games?
Yes, but they have mental issue as well.
5. To what degree do you think people can be negatively affected by violent video games?
Its hard to pin point, some people play games and they have no affect on them what so ever. Others on the other hand become engrossed into games and its attributing violence because of other mental "instabilities"
6. What is your opinion on video game bans?
Living in a country which has forced developers to tweak their games, I obviously very passionate about the rights of man. With that being said, games such as Rapeplay and Postal, need to be looked at before release for their obviously legality and affect on people, regardless of age.
1. How old are you?
16
2. In what country are you currently living in?
Australia
3. How often do you play games with graphic violence?
More than 3 hours a day on average
4. Do you know anyone who has been negatively affected by violent video games?
My friend wants to shoot people, I dunno if it's because of video games. I've known people who have known how to shoot a gun without advice because of video games, dunno if that's a good thing or not
5. To what degree do you think people can be negatively affected by violent video games?
No. In violent video games you usually aren't shooting at the good guys and when you do kill one, you sometimes feel remose. If anything, people who play violent video games will be used to making good decisions and be ready for a zombie apocolypse!
6. What is your opinion on video game bans?
They suck. A rating for games to be available for people over the age of 18 is perfect to solve any reason to ban a game and children won't have easy access to them. I wouldn't be a good example because I'd just get my dad to buy them for me.

If one is so fucking stupid that he/she can't see the difference between real and unreal he/she shouldn't be playing or watching anything at all
6. What is your opinion on video game bans?
Quite useless, encourages piracy, yadda,yadda...
1. How old are you?
15

Scotland
3. How often do you play games with graphic violence?
1+ hours a day, usually.
4. Do you know anyone who has been negatively affected by violent video games?
No one at all.
5. To what degree do you think people can be negatively affected by violent video games?
Not at all. I play a lot of violent games and I'm not a violent person at all.
6. What is your opinion on video game bans?
Stupid. What's the point in banning them just because some retarded preteens get influenced by them and do something stupid? No reason to stop everyone from playing them. The age restrictions are there for a reason, and if a parent thinks that they are influencing their child, they should simply stop letting them play the games.
1. How old are you?
19

4. Do you know anyone who has been negatively affected by violent video games?
No
5. To what degree do you think people can be negatively affected by violent video games?
If they're already mentally disturbed it may encourage them to commit acts of violence, but on the flipside it may also give them a healthy outlet for said violence.
6. What is your opinion on video game bans?
They're the product of alarmist ignorance left over from the 'baby boomer' generation.

4. Do you know anyone who has been negatively affected by violent video games?
No
5. To what degree do you think people can be negatively affected by violent video games?
I think that people need to be severely mentally unstable to be negatively effected in the first place.
6. What is your opinion on video game bans?
They are stupid. Age ratings are there for a reason.
1. How old are you?
20
2. In what country are you currently living in?
United Kingdom
3. How often do you play games with graphic violence?
Not that often, most graphic game I played was SoFII

Yes
5. To what degree do you think people can be negatively affected by violent video games?
Their behaviour can change if they're susceptible to influence from the game
6. What is your opinion on video game bans?
Rather than banning I think there should be a double-restricted rating which requires a permit to own. Obviously it wouldn't stop people from getting the game, but people who own extra-violent games without said permit get a fine.
Most people can play loads of really violent games and turn out fine. It's those who take the game too seriously who end up changing. It happened to someone I know very well while they were playing GTA Vice City. As soon as they were banned from playing it, they visibly changed their behaviour for the better.
1. How old are you?

I don't think you can get negatively affected by violent video games itself, but I think together with bullying, abusive parents or mental issues you can.
6. What is your opinion on video game bans?
Banning video games is just as dumb as banning freedom of speech.
1. How old are you?

Good ol' USA

My 6 year old cousin
5. To what degree do you think people can be negatively affected by violent video games?
Well judging by my cousin, they just become a little bit more violent, but I think its just his age. Or from his crazy brothers... (note: he plays lego-starwars)
6. What is your opinion on video game bans?
They are stupid, there is more violence in the news then in your average video game.

Australia

Maybe once a week, depends what you call "games with graphic violence"
4. Do you know anyone who has been negatively affected by violent video games?
No
5. To what degree do you think people can be negatively affected by violent video games?
I think it all depends on the environment that they are brought up/live in.
As in if have they been mentally traumatized on some way, be by parents or bullying, anything that affects there thinking processes.
So yes, I think they have some negative impact, but just not a major one.
6. What is your opinion on video game bans?
Its a gray area, We don't need games with excessively violent scenes/content, Postal is a good example; but it also depends on the reason/intent for the players actions in those games.
However I also agree that it is up to parents to decide and monitor what games children play, though the only problem with that is some parents judgment may not be as sound as others.

Here's a chart illustrating the age destribution from all* of the posts above:

*Not counting the ones who weren't taking this seriously
1. How old are you?
16
2. In what country are you currently living in?
The Netherlands
3. How often do you play games with graphic violence?
Almost every day
4. Do you know anyone who has been negatively affected by violent video games?
Nope
5. To what degree do you think people can be negatively affected by violent video games?
Perhaps getting a bit aggressive
6. What is your opinion on video game bans?
How about no.
I tried to make my survey as well as I could, and put much thought into it.
1. How old are you?
11
2. In what country are you currently living in?
Canada
3. How often do you play games with graphic violence?
They are the only games I own or enjoy. I simply play them to take out any stress or anger that I may gain during school or simply outside. Or when I just want to have some fun, fun never hurts anyone
4. Do you know anyone who has been negatively affected by violent video games?
No, all the gamers that I am friends with and are my age, are quite intelligent enough to know that it's a video game, if not they're parents aren't doing a good job. And we don't scream in the mic.
5. To what degree do you think people can be negatively affected by violent video games?
Humans have full control of their body and can make decisions knowing whats right and wrong, unless on drugs. Playing a violent video game won't make you violent, it can simply be an excuse because the person is afraid to sit down relax and consult with somebody and talk about why they are angry. To be violent, you have to be angry. People need to face it that violence is everywhere in our lives even if we try to hide it or avoid it, you will find out.
6. What is your opinion on video game bans?
Parents should be the ones making decisions on what children play. Even if it isn't a child playing and they are playing a game with full gore and dismembering limbs, it's their choice to be playing that game, why should somebody be deciding for you when everyone has equal rights and can believe and do whatever they want. ( Of course nothing illegal )
Anyways, hope this helped in anyway possible. But may I say, perhaps you shouldn't be asking this on a video game fourm. But still, good survey.
Sorry about that I was trying to quote from asxhu and did something wrong.
Asxhu's response to no.5 =
5. To what degree do you think people can be negatively affected by violent video games?
Unless you're a kid or mentally retarded, you shouldn't be affected
My response =
I know I'm going to be given boxes for this or something but I think your being a little too harsh with the kid thing. I mean sure, everyones bumped into those children screaming in their mic, or the ones that accuse you of hacking. But they're also still young, most of us here were all like that when we were young, it's just part of a childhood, when we're children we haven't exactly reached maturity. That's why it's important for the parents not to spoil their children and educate them. Now on the other hand theres also the spoiled brats that have no intention to reason with you. At this point, it's time to thank the game devs for inventing the mute button, or just ignore them so we can all have a fun enjoyable time while gaming.
1. How old are you?
14
2. In what country are you currently living in?
United States
3. How often do you play games with graphic violence?
Often
4. Do you know anyone who has been negatively affected by violent video games?
No, besides news reports
5. To what degree do you think people can be negatively affected by violent video games?
Not. At. All. To become violent from a video game would require some other severe mental issue
6. What is your opinion on video game bans?
They are stupid mostly. When I saw Australia had banned Left 4 Dead 2, I thought how stupid Australia had been. So there's blood and gibbing, what's the problem?
