Right here. People were too focused on what the game did worse then the previous Silent Hill games, that they glossed over what they did better, and it made for a great game that felt like a better version of Resident Evil 4 to me.
I'd say the biggest regret of the developers for this game is that it inherited expectations when they clearly weren't giving the same level of focus on them. They should've made changes and branched into a separate IP.

While I'd say its definitely underrated, it doesn't touch Resident Evil 4. The copy-paste plot twist was annoying, and the whole Pyramid Head teaser thing was just dumb. Still, I'd have enjoyed some DLC for it.

This is still one of my favorite games of all time. It had excellent atmosphere and some fantastic gameplay. Not to mention truly epic moments, mostly helped by the fantastic music. Yet most people remember Mercs 2 for how bad it was (though in my opinion, it's not as bad as people make it out to be, but it was nothing compared to Mercs 1.)
I wish this game could be remade with modern tech.
Not to mention it had great commercials:

So I went to Blockbuster yesterday to rent Halo Reach. Walk over to the PS2 sale section. I SAW THE GAME! I bought it. I nostalgia'd so hard.

Never really played the first one, but Merc:2 was fucking awesome.

King's Quest
Unreal Series / Unreal Tournament 99
Some of the older Final Fantasies
Serious Sam
I can entirely agree with these, i love them all, but no one i know knows about these games, well, except final fantasy ofcourse, but they only know of the newer ones, which mostly just suck.
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
Actually, atleast where i live, the entire series is pretty damn underrated, i only know three people who know anything of the Metal Gear series, one of which has only played the game you just mentioned, another whom have not actually played any games, but is trying to get to play MGS 4, and one, who is my bigger brother, who have played almost every single one of the games.
Gothic 3
Neverwinter Nights
Oh hell yeah, Neverwinter Nights!
I just love that game, it is abselutely brilliant, too bad almost no one else play it though, but i do think that has something to do with the fact that its nine years old.
And Gothic 3 is pretty damn good too, but really, REALLY buggy, already within the first five minnutes of the game i got stuck and had to restart.

Again, this game is just great, really entertaining, and its got some hilarious humor.

And yet another one of my favorite games, it was really great, and made by pretty much the only good video game company in my country too, i found a place on a wall in the first level where there is some writing that is on danish, kind of funny.
Im going to kill those bastards if they dont make another Hitman game or a sequel for this soon though.
Never really played the first one, but Merc:2 was fucking awesome.
You know, I actually agree with that.
I had a great time with Mercs 2. Sure it was buggy, but some of the bugs only made it more entertaining to play.
But like I said, it simply couldn't stand up to how great of a game Mercs 1 was.
If Mercs 2 had kept more of the ideas and the atmosphere from Mercs 1, it would have been one hell of a game.
Double Agent and Conviction didn't deserve good press though, they killed the point of Splinter Cell completely. Hell, you can't even use stealth in some parts of Conviction and it's pretty much discouraged during the rest of the game because it's so much easier to shoot everyone.
Double Agent had some fantastic moments that relied on patience and legitimate stealth, i.e. the JBA missions. Conviction claimed to be different right from the start, and I was thoroughly impressed. There were times that required quick, but nonetheless stealthy, actions.

Not only was the singleplayer fantastic, but the multiplayer was incredibly fun especially with 4 players.
The Command and Conquer series in general. Everybody hated CnC 4, but it was a solid game, and the transition was very nice.

Mainly because it was on Mac and people just called it a Doom clone.
They failed to understand that the whole series actually had a story that can put Halo to shame; in fact, it often feels like Bungie just took the Marathon series, dumbed it down, moved the timeline around a bit and called it Halo.
The big mods that came out for it tended to be really high caliber too. Not to say Doom didn't have some amazing wads (Alien Vendetta), but on the indexes, you had to browse through a bunch of crap to find any gold. Whereas with Marathon, I only remember looking at nothing but total conversions. (Marathon RED and Rubicon come to mind; both rival the original games in terms of quality and story.)
Torchlight.
Sim Coaster!
Oh my god so much nostalgia!

I remember I used to get so frustrated playing this when I was younger, but I loved every second of it.

I love this game so much, due to the fact that for the past 5 years that I've had it, I can still start it up and enjoy it. Definitely the best game I've ever played.

This is a real fun game which involved ridding the world of evil pigs. :3
Sadly Whoopee Camp split up after Tombi 2.
I played it a year back and still had heaps of fun.
I feel like Prototype is underrated. It isn't a great game but it wasn't the epitome of mediocrity like people say it was.
Jet Set Radio Future
I'd say Metal Arms: Glitch in the System, main reasons being the NPC possession was fantastic and being able to destroy individual parts of robots was great, especially in mutiplayer. I believe the game sold pretty poorly so it never got a sequel.

I've never heard ANYONE talk about any of the STALKERS in real life unless it was me telling them about it, so I'll just leave that there.
