I kinda like indev, but daytime always ends too fast and I end up holed up in a cave with torches, waiting until nighttime ends.
Most people collect sand, wood, meat and expand their base. At night time, it's usually spent collecting stone, mining for ore and expanding your base below ground. Around about the 3rd night, you should have an outer wall set up that allows you to expand safely above ground at night.

If you find a decent amount of coal, you can work in the mines during night time and outside during daytime.
The first days before you find coal can be a bit annoying though, I can agree on that.

Presuming you're on a map with trees or grass- dig for iron, shovel gravel for flint. Congratulations, you have godmode.
Can't see? Light a fire. Enemies coming after you? Light a fire. Light a fire? Light a fire.
I bought indev now and it's awesome.
However, Is there a way to smelt stuff using lava?

I think I remember that there was a method that used sand and lava to make glass that way

I cut down a tree with a slice of ham last time I played.

you can't smelt with lava anymore, I think it just destroys blocks :/
do this with wood in inventory:
→
then make a workbench:

→
then, using the workbench after placing it, make this using gathered stone:

........ →

then, to smelt stuff, put some form of wood in the bottom slot of your furnace, and the smeltable or cookable food in the top slot. It actually takes time before each piece is ready.
handy website with all the crafting stuff, by the way- http://www.echidnatribe.org/Minecraft/crafting.php

Really useful site.
Thanks for the link.
Level size stats

In the interview I just did for FAP radio, I mentioned doing the stats for how much space a full map would take.
A fully explored minecraft map would take up somewhere between 100 and 200 petabytes. That’s 100,000-200,000 full 1TB disk drives.
So, yes, I overstated a bit when I said there wasn’t enough hard drive space in Europe. :)
I wish there was a way to build downwards, because playing on Floating with Deep is impossible without having the ability to do that.
I wish there was a way to build downwards, because playing on Floating with Deep is impossible without having the ability to do that.
it's TOUGH, but what I do with deep floating is I'll turn it on peaceful and try to find the bottom-most point of my 'island' by digging down a 2x1 tunnel so if I break ONE brick with nothing beneath it, I'll still be standing on another (since I'm standing on the crack, either side will save me).
most of the islands have a bottom point that is relatively close to the next one down, so once you find the bottom point and drop, you SHOULD survive the fall... but save your game before hand just in case.
to lessen the fall by a little, have some dirt ready when you're falling, look straight down, and hold down left click so when you get close to the ground, you'll place one or two bricks, shortening the overall fall and maybe saving some health.
being on peaceful, you regenerate your health and can keep plowing downward.
also, keep a workbench and ALL the wood you could gather from the top island on you. when you break your stone pickaxes, drop the workbench, make new tools, then break the workbench to put it back in your inventory. note, breaking chests will not keep their contents inside like some magic pocket-box, but they'll drop all of their contents on the floor... so... don't do THAT if you ever feel the need.

You can just shovel up a bunch of sand/gravel and drop that down on a huge column on a single tile on the island beneath you, and then stand on the column while you shovel your way downwards.
I think that if Notch allows us to get lava by building a metal bucket, we should be able to place the lava filled bucket in a furnace and it will last for a verrrryyyy long time. Like being able to smelt 32 iron before going cold.

BRILLIANT!
better do this on a paradise island, then. I don't remember seeing much sand on my last floating map :[
Hey guys I heard Notch is going to add farming soon.
Glorious!

He probably means for infdev (I'm not sure though, I'd computer problems lately).
Urgh, I was making my way downwards with the sand pillar and then I accidentally hit backwards on my mouse and the site rewinds once. :argh:
He probably means for infdev (I'm not sure though, I'd computer problems lately).
Actually no, neither of you got what I was saying.
Enlighten us then.
It was a late joke my good people.
Also, a strange bug a friend of mine discovered.
First light up a forge with, say, one plank and one cobblestone, and then remove it with a pickaxe before it stops burning. Now, when you place the forge somewhere else it will still be burning and emitting light, but without using any materials.
Nice to have before you get coal.
Oh, and it also works underwater.
Bear in mind that this is most likely a bug and will probably be fixed at some point.
This game is interesting and promising... and it feels abit familiar. I wonder how could this compete with gmod. (Basically gmod is better in everything, except you cant dig[I think this is possible] around and go underground.)
