Baldurs Gate with 4th edition rules? Do not want
Who said it would be 4th edition?
Who said it would be 4th edition?
It's licenced by Wizards of the Coast, so it probably is. Still, we might get a pleasant surprise.
Since it's on Beamdog, I'm 99% sure it'll be a straight no bullshit remake with prettier graphics and stuff like MDK2 HD. Also apparently it'll also contain the Tales Of The Sword Coast expansion.
It's not coming to Steam or any other site, except Beamdog https://twitter.com/#!/TrentOster/status/180383395937914880
But I've never even heard of Beamdog. Put it on steam you complete and utter pillocks.
PENISES
What the fuck is Beamdog?

it was pretty obvious it was gonna be an hd remake and it was uncovered that beamdog was working on it (the guy who made the MDK2 HD) when somebody from beamdog was hyping it on twitter.
Sweet. Now Noober can piss me off in HD.

It's an HD remake with no strings attached, right? RIGHT?!
It's an HD remake with no strings attached, right? RIGHT?!
Well. There will be no guns and killstreaks methinks. It's probably just a graphical overhaul and a ruleset port to 4.ed.

[release]The countdown on the BaldursGate.com website has finished, but even after waiting for the massive slowdown to pass by, we're not left with a whole lot of information to glean from it. Thankfully, Beamdog's Trent Oster has been busy sharing some information via Twitter, which I'll combine snippets from (along with everything else we know) below: • Overhaul Games (Beamdog's development arm) is heading up the projects, with the support of both Atari and Wizards of the Coast. • The new Beamdog newsletter states a Summer 2012 release date, at least for Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition (no release date for Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition yet). • Tales of the Sword Coast will be included in the Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition and Throne of Bhaal will be included in the Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition. • There will be "new content for the game you love, made by some of the original team members". • The team is doing their best to provide support for mods, old and new. • Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition will be exclusive to Beamdog (on PC), though other platforms will be announced next week at the very same time. The very first screenshots will debut then, too. • The BG:EE will utilize the 2nd Edition D&D ruleset, just as the original games did. Beamdog's motto: "Don't break the fun." • The "Infinity Enhanced" engine that powers both Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition and Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition will be "based off the latest Throne of Bhaal code base". That means we can use class kits and wild mages in the original Baldur's Gate! • The team is making it a point to support as many languages as they can. • No new-fangled 3D-rendered graphics, here. They're going "2D isometric all the way", just the way we like it. • The team is going to stick with the original BG model of limited voiceovers because it "allows for more in-depth writing." Good call. • As of right now, our old BG1 and BG2 save games should work in the Enhanced Editions. The team hasn't had to change the save game formats... yet, anyway. • There will be all-new characters for us to meet and recruit into our party in the Enhanced Editions. Voiced by all-new actors, no less. • The Enhanced Editions will likely only be released digitally, so your old Baldur's Gate boxed copies will have to continue taking up your prized shelf space for now. • The interface will see some revising, specifically to increase the size of the font (and hopefully the characters) at high resolutions. Elaborating further, Trent states that they have the original source code and are attempting to rework the UI and rendering. • Once you're finished with the Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, you will be able to import your character into the Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, just as we could with the original games. • The team is "looking for new ways" to attach Baldur's Gate + Tales of the Sword Coast and Baldur's Gate II + Throne of Bhaal into one cohesive title. And, yes, that would be nothing short of awesome. • The outdated DirectPlay network interface used by Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II has been "macheted" to make room for something that is "better". Here's to hoping co-op multiplayer will be vastly improved! • The ultimate goal? The new Enhanced Editions are "part of the master plan" toward the possibility of a Baldur's Gate III. • And, finally, we have an official announcement: Announcing Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition™ March 15, 2012 - Atari, Wizards of the Coast, and Overhaul Games are pleased to announce work has begun on the Enhanced Edition of Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate II.
It's Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition, what that exactly means I don't know, but sounds like a graphics overhaul? Or maybe just updating it to work for windows 7 which is enough for me.
Well it works perfectly fine on Windows 7 for me. And for all you people who thought this would be made for 4th edition. Are you freaking nuts? Do you have any idea how much work that would take?
I, for one, won't be buying this until I've seen just how much they've improved it. Otherwise, they're just doing things to the game that any of us could easily do with mods.
I, for one, won't be buying this until I've seen just how much they've improved it. Otherwise, they're just doing things to the game that any of us could easily do with mods.
Do you have any idea just how insane an undertaking it is to mod Baldur's Gate? It starts out innocent enough... but much like a mall-trip with your girlfriend armed with her rich dads Golden Card... it turns into a seriously epic undertaking. First you do the BGT mod that combines the games. Then you juuust want the bug fix mods. Then you want the 1pp mod that returns a lot of the graphical elements to BG1 style Then you want dialogue fix pack Then you want dream music/candlekeep fix Then you want Unfinished-business 1+2 that restores cut content. Then you go for the portrait pack that gives every character an individual portrait relevant to their character. Then comes HLA ability changes to properly reflect the high-level endgame. Then comes the most important one made by writer David Gaider: Ascension which restores much of the endgame content planned for ToB which was cut. Then comes warious cut NPC romances. Finally we have toughened Demogorgon which is essentially just restored to the original, near immortal state. oh and toughened boss-battles which are much like the one above. Multi-Dragon battle anyone? This is where I personally am done. This is two hours of Download and Install. But for many others, it gets even more insane: Dark sides of the Sword Coast Northern side of the Sword Coast Some Icewind Dale mod The grey Clan Minor dungeon mods Ruleset changes that toughen the game up. One for each game. Mostly for people who want a serious combat challenge. Further skin mods that import elements from Planescape and IWD games. Extra companions with voice and barter with everyone else.. often inter-mod barter. Cheesy romance plots that rivals some of the most sugary love-novels. (once had it installed and i gotta say it makes you fuzzy reading that) This is a game with a mod scene that more than rivals the Nexus in that they've got almost as much content and none of it is nude-kawaii-teacher-rape mods. Would i pay for an ultimate-edition of this that spares me this and also includes some of the original ideas from the design stage back then? Hell yeah. Much like i'd love to be able to play Fo3 with many of the New Vegas features without the Requiem mod. It's just my two cents. But either way. I'm buying. If not for anything else, then for the chance of seeing some future new games on that engine i so love. Still the best RPG engine to date IMO. Also. Isn't Trent the lead for BG1 back then? What could go wrong? [editline]16th March 2012[/editline]
Well it works perfectly fine on Windows 7 for me.
Funny thing is that it's because he doesn't know how to Enable OpenGL renderer and that it fixes any visual issues with the game.
I've never used any other mods apart from Tutu so whatever.
I've never used any other mods apart from Tutu so whatever.
Tutu is for girls! Real men do BGT!
