No RTS is like that, becuase as I said this was most probably thought as an FPS when they put down it's foundations.
And they cut those features because otherwise people with old computers (3-4 or more years old) would not have been able to play it. Modern hardware could easily run that (by modern I mean a good Nvidia 200-series or ATi 4000-series with a equal CPU and 2-4GB of RAM DDR2 or better DDR3).
I'm still not sure about running physics that well, and the animations still wouldn't be that smooth (getting smooth animations in RTS's is hard because units are constantly moving...so much pathing) but I see your point. It's the old adage of "we can release a game that's good, but not great, but it'll be out quickly and make a lot of money, or we could release a game that's great, but it'll take longer, and make a lot less money."

Yep that's it for nearly all games I think, if the developers wanted they could make great games that really had features that we can only dream of in games today, but since they reason only in profit, they think "Why release one game that sells 2 million units when we can release three games that sell 1 million units each?". Which is why most revolutionary games are released by young and inexperienced developers that develop for passion/hobby and not only for money instead of old, experienced developers that are now bored of their job and keep goign only because it gives them loads of money.
hey we should hook up for some 2's matches if you can deal with my terribleness :P

I'd be up for it, but sadly I won't be at home for a long time (I'll be back just in time for the school start :argh:) so I'm very far from a computer capable of playing DoW2 (I'm lucky I have internet access), since this one struggles with Empire Earth 1.
dude empire earth is hardcore that's the crysis engine
Will the price stay forever, or is it just for a week?
Weekend Deal. :)
and btw OP I bought the game because of you.
I frikkin' love you.
I regret DOW2. The campaign was so damn boring.
It's not so bad when you have a bud to play with. That, and it has replayability. :)
WAIT
Anyone wanna do coop campaign with me? <3

Co-ops cool aswell. If you want add me on xfire:clabrendon1 and we can play some games.
They aren't pre-rendered, but I do think that they are pre-calculated to ensure that it showed off the game. Still that means that while in a non pre-calculated match the Landspeeder may not have hit the coloumn, if it had it would have looked like that (the video showed what could happen, not what would have happened every time).
Actually that video is entirely prerendered concept gameplay vid.

You sure? I think I remember reading that it was pre-calculated (so that everything cool and shiny would happen in the video, but all of it could happen in game too with a lot of luck), but then again when was that video released? 2007 or something? I could be very wrong. Still wrong or not, I'm quite sure that if they made that video and showed it, it was very possible to actually make it real (game developers never plan so much if they already know it's impossible), they just went for the "higher profit" option.
Dawn of War 2 was a fantastic game.
I'd play it more if I wasn't so awful at the multiplayer.
I'd fucking kill for a mod that basically made DoW2 CoHs with Space Marines. As in apply all the rules and systems in CoH to DoW2, so realistic tank damage, way better cover system, a fuckton more garrisonable buildings and all that stuff, and of course, BASEBUILDING.
I respect DoW2 for what it is, but they should have made the whole "Quick game of RTS" thing a gamemode instead of the entirety of multiplayer.
However it's a good sale, bought Tales of Valor at the price it should have originally sold for.

Same, but it's still fun to do a round with some buds against a bunch of Tyranids. :) and if anyone wants to play my GFW Live thing is privbryan
:P

Dow2 cannot be modded. blame relic.
Coh is so far from even historic realism they might aswell just consider it a fictional game.
Agree with basebuilding.
Why the hell is Relic so hostile to community modding anyways?
They aren't it's not entirely unmodifiable Game for Windows Live doesn't allow modding and multiplayer at the same time, they added a map editor in this patch and there are some mods available that change some stuff like squad cap, unit cap, unit cost, etc. http://forums.relicnews.com/ has some mods and maps for download.
I just remembered now: Why the fuck did they use GFWL? Why? It ruined the mod possibilities, and probably the game too.

That really confused me too, why didn't they use the features that Steam offered if they were going to make it exclusive?
...I can't even find a game in multiplayer. At the time of release it took 30minutes to match me up in a 3v3, but now it's just an indefinite wait or I get thrown into a game with a bunch of kids in the middle of nowhere minimum 2,000 ping.
Seems you can play multiplayer and use mods by using .sga files and adding them to the DOW2.module file, the problem is you can't play multiplayer unless everyone else playing has the mod as well.
