• RUSE to use Ubishit DRM.
That still doesn't mean that you own it. By selling the game you're transferring the license not the ownership of the game (since you never had that to begin with).
you look like a drm lover, why?
you look like a drm lover, why?
I'm not a DRM lover, but I'm definitely not fond of whiny kids complaining about a companies attempts to protect it's investments and hard work. Why would I hate that? It's their right to protect their property, and it's been completely transparent for me so far. I haven't had any trouble with it at all. The really pathetic thing is that everyone who screams "DRM just causes more people to pirate!" and fails to realize that DRM wouldn't exist if people weren't pirating things in the first place.
never really like the ru.s.e o n the beta, I have too many connection issues and only played 1 game which just make me think it's something of a spam fest and not something totally unique of what I am looking for. I wish there was more games out there that seem to be similar to The Settlers or Guilds 2 or Empire Earth... these are the RTS that I am mostly interested into because it's both city building and military at the same time, and I love to concentrate on both of these aspects.
Just as it limits the number of pirates, it also limits the number of good-to-heart retail buyers. If they get low sales I'll just shake my head and say "I told you so."

This DRM thing will affect Ubisoft reputation. I pre-ordered Command and Conquer 4, bought it and I am still playing it. I have only experienced one crash and that was because I was fiddling with the Settings. I hope that RUSE won't be very buggy but I will still give the game a go.
That's different though. ACII was waited for for years. RUSE is less advertised and less acclaimed. How many people do you think bought the PC version unaware of this DRM? And another thing, I don't see anywhere on that page that those are the PC sales. In fact, PC isn't even tagged at the bottom.
http://www.product-reviews.net/2009/11/24/assassins-creed-ii-ubisoft-unveil-detailed-sales-figures/
That's for the consoles....
That's different though. ACII was waited for for years. RUSE is less advertised and less acclaimed.
Obviously the sales figures are going to be lower then. And I realize those weren't PC specific stats but they're obviously selling enough copies that the DRM isn't making a large enough negative impact to really hurt their sales.
But think of it this way? Maybe the DRM made a large impact, but proportionally the console overshadowed it? How many copies were sold? Assloads upon assloads, but that still doesn't change the fact that they COULD have made more sales on the PC.
That's for the consoles....
It's total sales figures... http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/61565 The xbox + ps3 sales from that chart don't add up to the total given in the other articles.
The fact of the matter is, I refuse to be treated like a criminal for legally purchasing a game. If I were to pirate the game, it would bend over and let me fuck it in the ass, simply because I'm THE BAD GUY.
It's total sales figures... http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/61565 The xbox + ps3 sales from that chart don't add up to the total given in the other articles.
How is that if the article was written in November of 2009 and AC2 didn't come out on the PC until 2 weeks ago, as you said.
Something smells fishy, and it sure as hell isn't this delicious cod I'm eating. :frog:
Whoops didn't realize it wasn't a simultaneous release on PC and console so I wasn't looking at article dates. Well then as soon as PC sales figures come out I expect they won't be much different than they would have been without the DRM. I know more people who bought the game because they couldn't pirate it than I know who didn't buy it because of the DRM.
Don't forget those poor suckers who bought the game unaware of the tragedy that lies ahead. [editline]09:56PM[/editline] I'm not saying that it was a TERRIBLE decision, I'm just saying frustration is assured.
At least it's still available on consoles.

[editline]09:56PM[/editline] I'm not saying that it was a TERRIBLE decision, I'm just saying frustration is assured.
It sounds like the same bitching that happened when steam first came out. It's not the perfect solution of course, but it's not nearly as bad as everyone is making it out to be, and it's done it's job so far.
Well, as a Charter customer, they've been fucking with the internet to compensate for their free shit and it's really starting to piss me off. My internet constantly slows to a crawl or shuts down all together because of this.
You live in another dimension, my boy. Nobody have a perfect (even LAN) connection and everyone do not want to have the feeling of being treated like thieves after purchasing it. And purchased a game like it was a rented game, which you can't sell it and can't play over 5 years, is kinda a dick move from Ubi (and EA). When you buy a game, you own entirely the game.
Unless there's a serious storm I don't lose connection. Also you don't even own the entire game, you own a license to play said game but I'm not going to bother going into that. Even then this doesn't hinder that "you entirely own the game" idea in any way so I don't know what you're getting at. Stuff like this wouldn't have happened if people didn't pirate games in the first place. So it's like a giant circle of hypocrisy.
Why the fuck is everyone saying "it's an online game hurrr :downs:"? Tell me how you play your online games when the Ubisoft servers are down again.
Why the fuck is everyone saying "it's an online game hurrr :downs:"? Tell me how you play your online games when the Ubisoft servers are down again.
They were down because of a DDOS around the start of the month. That isn't their fault.
I RefUSE to buy it. :smug:
To anyone saying it doesn't matter because it's an online game please remember that Ubisoft's servers have gone down before (actually I think they're still down, so no one can still play AC2, could be wrong) so even if our connection is find Ubisoft still has to hold their end, which we shouldn't have to rely on.

When you buy a game with your hard-earned cash money, companies should not impose some restrictions like their DRM. You own entirely the game and nothing less. It's their fault if they are so paranoid towards pirates, because pirates buy games too. Yes, you hear me exactly, and except a little group of selfish pirates, many people who downloading illegaly games, buy them too. Incredible, you think? I don't think so... When you impose something really big, you really need to do this shit right.
For the love of christ that was a DDOS attack, how is that Ubisoft's fault?
It's their fault because they shouldn't be doing stupid shit like this [editline]12:30AM[/editline] I honestly don't understand how any of you could justify DRM like this.
1337, AC2 was cracked BEFORE it was released. [editline]07:20PM[/editline] And the server went down on release.
No, there is still no crack for AC2, I just bought the game instead of going through a month of waiting for a crack. Ubisoft wins. Sorry I D-Dos'ed you Ubisoft :C [editline]11:51PM[/editline]
BF2 clone? Where did you get that from? Anyway, no it's a WW2 RTS. A really good one actually. Find some videos on youtube if you want to learn more about it. Or just download the free beta.
Cool, will do I heard something about tanks and squad gameplay, BF2 came to mind.
