STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl
Fallout
Portal
Half Life
Doom
Morrowind
I thought Oblivion's atmosphere was just kind of "meh" but still a great game though.
I loved the atmosphere of Halo: ODST
Just wandering around looking for the superintendent stuff, and listening to the music, totally just lost myself for a while.
I can't really bring any others to mind that haven't already been mentioned.

Wow if they play epic shit like that throughout the whole game then I'd give it a go. One thing I loved the most about sci fi games is their epic soundtracks, my most favorite would have to be anything from the jet force gemini developers need to make their shit epic like odst and jet force gemini. Listen:
FUCKING SERIOUSLY. Give it a listen you'll like it maybe.

Portal is probably one of the most atmospheric games I've played. When you escape from the puzzle chambers and find that the entire place is abandoned and falling apart, is probably one of the most atmospheric parts I've ever seen in a game.
The Penumbra games, Homeworld series (first one is best though).

You should really learn to play in a squad if that's all you do, I'm usually always flying your neighborhood transport chopper on the Chicago and Virginia servers, Look for "Doonbugie" If you need a chopper ride.
Cryostasis was really really awesome when it came to the atmosphere, look it up if you don't know, it's a great game.
I would of said L4D2, but then i realized everything is too empty. There is hardly any sign of previous survivors's messages, safe rooms etc. It doesn't feel like a real apocolypse.
I'd probably say either TF2 (obviously) or the original CoD games. It actually felt like a war. Guns screaming in your ears, bullets flying everywhere, all that jazz.

I do play in a squad, im just speaking in general, theres alot of laborious things to do before getting into the action, i guess thats a whole part of the atmosphere though.
I also appreciate anyone how taxis on choopers or transports. Good work man, keeping the troops going. :)
World of Warcraft
BioShock
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
Sam & Max Hit The Road
Blade Runner
Planescape: Torment
Fallout 1&2(can't say for Tactics, 3 felt too much like a mod)
STALKER, WoW: The Burning Crusade, Gears of War, Sins of a Solar Empire, X3: Reunion, Doom 3, etc.
assassin's creed 2
Shadow of the Colossus
Heavy Rain
Metal gear series.
I found the first Unreal game to have a great atmosphere.
I loved Nyleve's opening.
Just Cause 2, had an awesome environment!
Awesome environment but not atmospheric at all IMO.
The first DOW campaign, when fighting chaos.
Fallout 3
To be honest, I'm surprised more people haven't said Half-Life 2.
call of cthulhu
Penumbra...

Project Reality for sure. Definitely if you play as Insurgent, Taliban, or Chechen militia.
