They can't spawn on blocks that have things on top of them, like a flower or a seed, or at least I've never seen it happen, but they can spawn on areas of grass AROUND the saplings/reeds/etc.
A large portion of my kingdom's forest burned down, so I built a monument out of the wood I could salvage from it.

Just got the game, I love it.
Read some guides so I knew what to expect. Made a decent log house. Then burned everything down in a mile radius. Left and found a mountain higher then the clouds and I am now building a sky castle.
Might put some dirt underneath it so it's like a flying island, castle, thing.
It looks much less sinister during the daytime.

I know how you feel, I'm really, really looking forward to Survival Mode Multiplayer.
Anyone have any ideas as to why I crash on SMP servers when I create or destroy blocks? The game will play just fine as long as I don't interact with anything, but if I say: Break blocks with a pickaxe, place a torch, or add a sign, sometimes (not all the time), the game will slowly start deleting any changes I had made (blocks coming back etc.), my messages stop being sent, and then all of this is followed by a javascript error and being booted out of the server:

I can have my graphics on fancy or fast, view distance on far to tiny. It doesn't matter. I don't have this problem on single-player servers.
I have updated java, messed with settings, and I am lost on how to fix this.

I have a nethergate in my home. I did some digging underground and decided to make an underground station far away from home. I made a portal underground (look at the picture to find out where). I entered the portal so I could go back home and fetch some materials to make that station thingy.
What happened instead was this: the nethergate teleported me directly to the nethergate that corresponds with the nethergate at my home. This is rather weird because I built this nethergate hundreds of blocks away from my home. :argh:

after many hours of long work, my server with all its needed mods is finally up! we have working teleporters, a currency system for buying protected land (to stop griefers), and many more plugins! you get a free protected plot in the spawn town. the ip is; 76.93.41.95 and we hope to get more players soon!

WORST ADVICE EVER.
Just go into .minecraft/bin and remove both minecraft.jar and version. Removing just version tends to cause some bugs.
