in 5 minutes i was dead 3 times, blown up by creepers and half my house destroyed.

They have the same resistance (30 in this case) So it should in theory take out the same area each time.
However the problems arise when the connecting blocks are taken into acount, so when surrounded by stone it would take a 3x3x3 cube. Larger open spaces mean a larger explosion.

yeah, my friend and I trekked across the map after having our cave hut blown apart by an invisible creeper, started building a cliffside stone house, got chased around through my forest fire by another creeper (visible to me but not my friend) who I burned to death by repeatedly flint + stoning the blocks he was running over. An invisible zombie killed my friend. Then an invisible creeper blew our house in half and killed me.

I keep respawning in the void and I have to reconnect to spawn properly. (Multiplayer)
