Brohoster does not sell VPS's or Minecraft servers. They may sell game servers but those games are optimized and don't take a full GB of ram to run. They also don't take up more then 35% cpu usage.

The server uses a time server and checks it to your own to figure lag. If they don't match, that comes up.

They have to make money somehow. He probably paid for a major dedicated server and is selling VPS through that to host the servers. Plus I would rather have a good host who host money then a terrible one that cost 75% less.
Also your looking at a manged server. He host it for you and sets stuff up. Not you do it all yourself.

No, it's because the java runtime takes 700+ mb for every instance and that the server by Notch is horribly unstable.
