Just had a great idea. What if there was a depth reader. It would work like a watch or compass, only it would show how far under (or above) ground you are. "Ground level" would be considered the plane of the block on which you spawned. When you reach diamond depth, it could turn blue or something. And deeper/higher could be different colors.

Progress update on V2.3 with items!
Dill has improved the swords a lot and made gold tools very shnazy looking. He also improved the watch a bit, redid the buckets and finished all the tools.

The materials are really all I'm confused about, but otherwise it would be a useful device. Don't you think? Blue at diamond level, black at bedrock level, red just above diamond level...Well, the details can be worked out, but I still think it'd be useful.

You should make the buckets metal, as lava would burn right through the wooden bucket, plus the buckets are made from iron.

Lava would probably melt/burn you in a metal/iron bucket as well, but I'll see if he says yes.

That would be a great idea, but maybe it turned from a nice blue to a dark red the farther down you went. Also, a lightometer? It would get red when it would be extremely dark and white in the brightest sunlight.

Also, the diamond should have a bit more frills simply to look cool and reward one for obtaining them. Just some constructive criticism.

to add to the silly tools (watch, compass), how about one made of wood, a tempometer? it gets redderer the closer you are to lava or fire
in hell it bursts into flames and disappears from your inventory
Minecraft can do so much already, it never ceases to amaze me...I can't help but think what the finished game will be like, it will be a masterpiece and by the time it is finished, at this rate will probably have thousands of features.
