Well if you dismantle the FPS part youll see the valve games have a lot of elbow grease over elbow grease to them. Story is told in innovative ways with the NPCs telling you enough to go along but not enough so that you are interested in every nook and cranny, not for weapons and ammo, but for pieces of the grand story you are playing.
At least thats what i believe.

EA is my favorite publisher. I have no issues with EA, as I am no sheep and have the capacity to judge things on my own rather than just following what everyone else thinks.

Because of the sheer amount of people who play FarmVille and don't know anything about Valve games. Casual gaming is a huge market. It really shouldn't be in the same competition as serious games, because of course it'll win every time. And, actually, even just considering casual gaming, Zynga has a ridiculously large market share, compared even to other (better) casual gaming companies like PopCap. Zynga games are free (notwithstanding premium content), require no installation (other than Flash, which has 98% penetration), and they're not just casual, they're [i]social[/i]. In other words, they spread like a virus on Facebook. All your friends are playing it and you're constantly reminded of this fact, so you eventually start playing it too (yes, even I started playing it, and I do like the artwork as evidenced by my avatar, but I don't play it anymore).
Also, I've heard that Zynga is offering free in-game items for voting, which is completely unfair.
