Advice: stop playing on Easy/Easy, and play Barbarian Invasion. It's 5x harder than R:TW normal. They really need to bring back R:TW's AI developer though. The average R:TW Battle AI could demolish the best AI MTW2 and E:TW combined had to offer. Speaking of which, how good is the AI in Napoleon? I've heard some good things, some bad. [editline]12:59PM[/editline] TW has always been about combined companies and regiments under control. It'd be micromanagement hell in a WW1:TW battle.
But I play on the hardest difficulty... And I always win every fight in Barbarian Invasion... :(
Is it just me or does Medieval 2 seem more... solid. Napoleon is good (Still updating Empire), but I like Medieval 2 much better so far, even though I dig the 17th/18th century theme.

The combat styles and the whole look of the game I actually like more in Medieval 2, especially all the features added just for eye-candy purposes in a way, like a prisoner system and titles for your family members and generals.
well back in the 19th century there was no more slaughtering of your captured prisoners, and members of the Royal Family didn't take to the field.
Total War isn't fun for me anymore, I miss the MW2 days.
well back in the 19th century there was no more slaughtering of your captured prisoners, and members of the Royal Family didn't take to the field.
Seems like the aristocrat back then were a bunch of pussies who were constantly being slaughtered by revolutionists.
quick question, coop campaign vs ai available yes?
Seems like the aristocrat back then were a bunch of pussies who were constantly being slaughtered by revolutionists.
i never saw bush shoot anyone... aren't there any mod team that actually DOES mod this (read: throws away all resourses and makes their own) like a mod set in the anchients or the dark ages. the fantastic campaigh map of E:TW (the buildings in each region) would be a nice twist to the R:TW campaign.

I've heard that NTW is even harder to mod than ETW and even then they didn't come with the mod tools that made total conversions for RTW and M2TW possible.
I've been playing N:TW for about two days now and I have to say it is a HUGE improvement. I still think it's what E:TW should've been in the first place, but it fixes so much that was wrong with E:TW and with the AI updates and even better graphics than Empire, i'm loving N:TW. Campaigns are challenging, and the battles just feel so much more realistic, especially with the new smoke effects and the marching tuns. Ship broadsides feel so much more powerful now as well. Still wish they'd give us more first-person views from the larger ships, instead of just below the deck view of the cannons and such.
How much does the campaign last in Napoleon total war? in years i remember E:TW lasts from 1700 to 1800, how much does N:TW last?
Around 2 or 3 years, but each turn is only two weeks.
Around 2 or 3 years, but each turn is only two weeks.
it's more than that, it's from around 1805 till 1812, but each year is 24 turns.
How much does the campaign last in Napoleon total war? in years i remember E:TW lasts from 1700 to 1800, how much does N:TW last?
there's one that's 12 months. one on 24 months and one 8 year long grand campaign.
So even the 8 year campaign is 6 turns shorter than the grand campaign from empire. Sigh. [editline]06:49PM[/editline] Also, is there a facepunch players steam group I can join? I want to play multiplayer campaign with people.
I wish you could make the campaign infinite. Would be awesome to just roleplay with a few mates (by roleplay, I mean act out countries, not be forced into conquering everyone because of the time limit).
Anybody know if somebody has enabled playable pirates in a mod yet? That'd be so awesome.
Anybody know if somebody has enabled playable pirates in a mod yet? That'd be so awesome.
How would it? Pirates don't have a starting country, and if they did, no doubt EVERY COUNTRY AROUND YOU would send an army in to own you. Would suck. Unless they did a complete overhaul and gave you your own island, let's say Barbados, in a pirate-setting map?

I always wished Sid Meier's Pirates was actually realistic.
Hm. I guess I'm just eager for a realistic pirate themed game. I always wished Sid Meier's Pirates was actually realistic.
There's a series of niche 18th century pirate games by Akella and I remember this popular mod called Build 13 being for one of them.
There aren't pirates in N:TW. Can't wait for mods to unlock Sweden/Spain/Ottomans/other minors for playing though, that'll be fun to grow from so small to rival the giants like France/Prussia etc. I'd be starting with the Italian States, I think.

[editline]06:51PM[/editline] Also everytime I play E:TW or N:TW the same thing ends up happening, I don't conquer much at the start, but I sit back, fight off any attacks and research EVERYTHING and build everything possible, and get a fuckton of money, then late in the campaign (when all the other nations have spent all their money trying to attack eachother thought the game) I build up a massive army (like, 3 full armies on the map) land them somewhere and just steamroll everything. Also Riflemen are fucking AWESOME when set to skrimish mode, I set them up, get close enough to a unit where they try and bayonet charge me, then set them to skrimish mode and they keep charging, and we keep running away and shooting at them, by the time it's over there all exhausted and half the unit is dead.
They need to do a Rome 2: Total War or a Medieval 3: Total War . I'd love to see both on this new engine.

So little games here in the West have covered that region in pre-modern times.
that's because you're probably playing easy or you're camping somewhere easily defendable (britain/russia)
Britain usually, but most places can be defended if you know what your doing.
They could do a Greece: Total War. Focusing on the Persian wars of that era.
