• Why isn't HL2 recognized more easily?

It bugs the hell out of me when I hear people who have a tiny pool of reference when it comes to games. Have they never seen a dwarven fort collapse in an orgy of blood, magma and flaming kittens? Spent half an hour clambering atop a colossus built of fur, stone and black blood, so that they could stab it in the brain? Crushed their enemies under the iron tread of a UEF Fatboy? Manipulated time to deliver a key to themselves in the past? Struck down their foes with a flying toilet? No, they're all sitting listening to rap music and bombing each other with gunships and saying "HURR I SHOTTED YOU WITH MAH GOLD AK-47 HURR". /offtopicrant If you recognise all those games I mentioned, give yourself a cookie. There's still hope for you. :v:
Half-Life is intended for intelligent gamers, period.
Knowing the people I know, Half-Life 2 isn't popular because it lacks everything that call of duty has. Sometimes I want to punch those people.
I Hate HL2 it just seems to be a Linear game where you drive somewhere
I Hate HL2 it just seems to be a Linear game where you drive somewhere
Every game is linear.
Every game is linear.
WoW Fallout 3 Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy)

This generation only thinks about Modern Warfare and Mario. I think they don't realise that some of the greatest games don't need to be new.
I was playing HL1 in m school (They have Counter Strike, pirated and installed in every PC there) and some random kid comes and said "Iz dat the new modified counter?" (Yes, they call it Counter and not Counter Strike), also some months later I decided to play HL:DM with some friends in my school and the next day the computer room was filled with people playing HL:DM. (They all sucked but at least they knew about it).
HL2 is more than half a decade old
Hl2 was released on 2004. 6 years =/= decade. I think you mean HL1. Thats 12 years old.
My 7 year old cousin loves to play l4d, l4d2 time to time.
My 4 year old cousin came round my house once whilst I was playing HL1, on Xen, I heard a headcrab and he very quietly said "what was that", I had my gauss charged up, as I was about to run into a shitton of enemies, and I turned around and the gonarch had followed me, he was scared shitless, and I was just laughing my ass off because I let go of my charge and it killed me.
Only 4 kids in my school knew about Valve and Half-Life. They loved it. The others are like "Half Life? What's that?" But that's probably because they only touch GTA, MW2 and Uncharted.
Hl2 was released on 2004. 6 years =/= decade. I think you mean HL1. Thats 12 years old.
More then a Half Decade TH89, half a decade =5 years more then 5-9 years.
because Valve can't hype games like Infinity ward of EA
That's because the people of Valve aren't a bunch of faggots. [editline]07:08PM[/editline] I know only one friend who has played Half-Life. It was the 360 version. He said he didn't like the long cut scenes, and that the story was terrible. Also, yeah. The main reason people don't know about Half-Life is because it's not Halo or Call of Duty.

Valve can certainly over hype their games. They own the most powerful electronic game distribution market on the PC period. But they don't. And they are still massive successes.
Half-Life is intended for intelligent gamers, period.
Maybe intelligent as compared to a goat.
Half-Life and Half-Life 2 are regarded to be the two best games (or up near the top if POSSIBLY bested) of all time. Yet how come a lot of this generation hasn't even heard of it, let alone consider it a somewhat decent game? I mean there's tons of those fags in public at GameStop and school that say "Half-Life 2 sucks big donkey dick" even though chances are the only game they've ever touched is MW2. I mean an opinion is one thing but completely ignoring/being arrogant about it is odd. I guess it's just underappreciated. Many people I know have heard of it but there's a TON that haven't. It honestly ticks me off a little bit. Any of you have anything to say on the subject?
i'm really sick of these absolutely stupid threads we get it, you don't like MW2. why do you need to add such a stupid cliche. "People don't share my tastes. Obviously my tastes are superiour so why can't everyone be as awesome as me." this is exactly what I dislike about "our generation" (let's be honest, all of human kind since it had things to prefer was like this) and what I always mock in my threads. [editline]04:29PM[/editline]
Because most people are console faggots. I don't think Orange box was ever that popular on xbox
people should be banned for having such stupid replies.
MW2 sucks ass. I havn't played it but what i've seen from it it looks like a waste of money. same as halo 3, i became all pumped up over the game finally got a xbox360 to play this game and it sucked.
I introduced a friend to steam, and he purchased a few games. One was Gmod. A few days ago at school I mentioned Garry. He didn't say anything. Then I said 'You know Garry Newman?'. He replied with 'No'. :saddowns: Games like mw2 is similar to new music. A lot of people know of all the music but they hardly know of any of the classic bands.
I remember playing old good HL1 as a kid with my friends, and I remember that it used to scare us a lot.
This is because whenever a new CoD comes out, the Xbox gamers are always like "Best game ever hurr." I bet if they made a CoD with clowns as players, and they would still buy it.
This is because whenever a new CoD comes out, the Xbox gamers are always like "Best game ever hurr." I bet if they made a CoD with clowns as players, and they would still buy it.
Clowns of Duty? I'd buy it. :v:
Games like mw2 is similar to new music. A lot of people know of all the music but they hardly know of any of the classic bands.
Spot on A girl at my school was talking about her favourite band; tokio hotel or what the faggy band is called and i replied "I think the Beatles are alot better" and she replied "no" and i stated "tokio hotel probably wont be remebered in 50 years, Beatles however will always be recognized" and she replied "Beatles will be forgotten in 50 years". Not really on topic but it's practivally the same situation.
I'd rather have a decent, but comparatively small community revolving around a masterpiece and it's artist, than a unorganized, shapeless behemoth consisting of nothing but ill-tempered, bad-mouthed faggots watching crappy tween sitcoms and playing mediocre overhyped games. So no, I don't want Half Life 2 to be popular amongst the young. Respected? Yes, but god forbid Ep3 or HL3 being as hyped as a summer blockbuster.
It's impossible to measure how much truth is in this thread. But seriously, I'm the only person in my circle of friends that hasn't played MW2, but the only one that HAS played HL2, TF2, and Portal. Ah well, their loss. Console ports can go die for all I care. (I bought The Sims 2 for Gamecube and Computer. Guess which one I want to snap in half?) A friend has played L4D1 and 2, and he knows VALVe made them. It's not exactly weird that he's probably the smartest friend I know (when not counting myself) as well as probably my best.
If you guys ever want to get an even more blank reply, go ask a group of gamers if they've ever played Red Orchestra.
If you guys ever want to get an even more blank reply, go ask a group of gamers if they've ever played Red Orchestra.
Oh god dammit, I'm part of those ignorant masses that's never heard of Red Orchestra. :sigh:
Everyone at my school knows about Half-Life. But it's a game development school and a third of the students have to build levels in the game.
