I know about 10 people that know about Half life 2. What's funny is, we were the only people in the class that knew about it, half of the table was Facepunch people, and we all love Valve. We didn't even know each other before that. Kind of funny really.
I also know two girls who are not that bad looking who love Valve

Do it right in the pooper while roleplaying that you are Alyx and Gordon
I am the only fucker i my town that one what Valve is
HL isn't all that big in advertising. VALVe just doesn't force feed(MOST)of their franchises. That's what I think anyway.
Me"yo"

NVM he moved. :saddowns:
Well, do the math. A lot of players (At least from what I've seen) in MW2 are between 9 and 14 years old. HL2 came out in...was it 2004? So even IF they play shooters, odds are that they passed HL2 right by, due to an M rating.
But yeah, it only seems that one in ten gamers for me is familiar with ANYTHING by valve other than Counter-Strike, and even then, they don't know who made it off the top of their head.
I mean, I didn't even find out about Half-Life 2 until around the time Episode 1 was coming out.
had it not been for My very first issue of PC Gamer that I ever bought, and that giant orange lambda on the cover, I would not have bought HL2. Seriously. It looked so good on those glossy pages I had to buy it.
Most of it is ignorance. I told my friend about Half Life, and he thought it was shit. A few days later, I send him a Machinima video made in Garry's Mod. After telling him it was a Half Life 2 Mod, he suddenly watched HL2, Ep1, and Ep2 LPs on youtube.
Orangebox weren't that popular due to not descriptive enough covers or there was the "5 games in a pack? Probably crap games" effect in place.
(or lack of updates)
I got it when it was on sale on steam for like 9.99. BEST 10 DOLLARS SPENT EVER
mainly because left 4 dead and left 4 dead 2 were the only valve games to get a teaser/trailer in australia we never got an hl2 trailer -_- maybe orange box im not sure
Only 4 people in my school know valve.
Only 4 people in my school know valve.
Only 3 (including me) at my school, like many people have said most of this generation is obsessed with modern warfare 2, which I've tried for about a week and then given up. It's just the same thing over and over, I honestly can't see why it's so popular.
Most of the cool kids play source games in our school.
In my school there's a lot of kids who play the Left 4 Dead games without realising who the developer is and what other games they have made.

The game that gets the most publicity and hype, (often accompanied by stupid, gimmicky, and sometimes physically impossible features, like dual wielding) is usually the one that people buy. Sadly, games today are no longer judged by how well the storytelling is, or how balanced and entertaining the multiplayer is, but by how many pot references and deagles it has.
Only 3 people I know at school who has played Half-Life games or any Valve game on the PC.
So much elitism in this thread.
And I love it. :smugdog:
Well elites have to be elite otherwise they wouldn't be elite.
Somebody should spread the word that valve hasn't only just made L4D, but alot other awesome games that are worth their money!
I first I no idea what Half Life, Portal, Team Fortress 2, or any game was 2 years ago.
Hell, I kept getting the names Morgan Freeman and Gordon Freeman mixed up.
But then I saw Portal, and became really interested on the actual mechanics of the game. I looked up a few things, watched a video or two of Team Fortress, and decided to pick up The Orange Box for the X-Box 360. I loved it all.
First I played Portal, because that's what I was focused on at the time. Then I spread out to play Half-Life 2 and Team Fortress 2. I fell in love with Team Fortress 2. I beat Half Life 2. It was all amazing.
When my X-Box got the Red Ring, I got Team Fortress 2 on the PC, but my computer sucked, so I could barely play it. Now I have a much better one, and play it a lot more.
I got The Orange Box just 3 months after it came out, just from looking at a few of the things in it on the internet. I guess I got lucky, for not being an over-hyped fagot.
HL2 is more than half a decade old
And it's still cool. I doubt anyone who enjoys MW2 won't in half a decade.
What sickens me more than the idiots that hate Half Life for being "boring", they also cry that any attempt at story In Medias Res is pretentious and stupid. They need someone to actively say "These are the bad guys. They did bad stuff, I guess. Go and shoot them. You will shoot them by going to the battlefield. Do you understand?" to them before they can play.

Those idiots are the idiots who over hype games and just play for realistic actions, even though dual wielding golden heavy hand-guns aren't realistic at all.
I for one love to understand games and their story, I have spent alot of time reading through codexes and playing side missions in MassEffect.
My friend gave me a copy of modern warfare 2. I use it as a coaster so my holiday06 and orange box pc packs wont burn my desk with their awesome.
Valve doesnt need hype. If they hyped up hl1 or hl2( whitch i didnt know existed untill i walked into a gamestop when i was in northern california and happened upon the only copy of the holiday 2006 package i have yet to see and bought it at a $20 steal, then i stole my cousins game of the year edition of hl1 ( first time i played hl was in 1999 and to a seven year old it was the most epic thing i ever saw, the cd key on it had every goldsrc game on it so i was happier than youre average redneck) if they hyped up these games 1. We would have to deal with mw2 style my game is better than anything ever.fags
and 2. We would lose our 'to cool for simple fps's' factor which would shit biscuits.
I know only twelve people in my school that play hl. 8 of them only discovered it because last year i went all out and came in an accurate overwatch eliet costume for holloween and they asked what it was from so the decided to try it, the other four are hard core like me and can snap out the entire resonance cascade hl storyline like we lived it.
But one good reason noone knows about it is because its a relativly high iq game with some of the puzzles. So people hear puzzle and through the weed smoke surrounding them they yell oh helllll noo!
Btw half life and battlefield are the only fps series that should exist. There cool like that
I think if they re-released The Orange Box on Xbox now it would be a lot more successful because Valve is an established console brand now after Left 4 Dead. They can say "from the people who made Left 4 Dead!"

But then hl2 would get royaly pissed on by people who know nothing about the games and will never get the story line and all around make... Distastful. References like they did for portal. THE CAKE ISN'T A LIE YOU JUST DON'T DESERVE ANY!!!
And discusting hl2 themed porn ( more so than now) will flood the internet shitting all over our scientist friends and their security gaurd buddy who owes one a beer
[editline]02:58AM[/editline]
They should use that tactic when they release Portal 2.
Nah they wont do that because portal gamers are a sort of closed niche community. We really dont welcom people in my experiances who just show up with a new release and zero knowleged about the theory behind thinking with portals.
What valve should do is pacage portal and portal 2. Have one comercial during a live event that a majority population is watching and keep it vague to the point where only loyal players and valve efficianados would be able to instantly recognise it and then get the gamer populace to spread the word from there as we are prone to do time and again when a great valve game comes out.
The situation is that the PC market is on the PC, not in the stores.
People in the public are mostly consolers.
People who aren't outside are PC gamers.
Because they were 3 years old when HL2 was released.
I was 5. :downs:
Found out HL2 in Late 07/Early 08.
I have only once seen commercial for a hlf-life game outside gaming sites and magasines, a poster on like 15 busstop. First time i have ever heard of this "Half-life series", and now itthey are some of my favorite games.
