With bloody mess you shoot them with a shotgun and they explode in blood and guts! I liked the gorey deaths in Tactics more than the originals.

For non-graphical gore the best is Dwarf Fortress. My dwarf hit an elephant on the head with a mace, its skull caved in on its brain ripping it apart and spraying a jet of blood behind it, I have also seen a dog with both front legs amputated, its left lung missing and a mangled eye

I was surprised with how gory Fallout was.
