Hey to all you people in the FP server I was the one in the spitfire crashing into you guys
haha, I shot you down in the I-532 plane. That shitty 1937 plane. :-)
Okay. Go to your IL2 game directory and you'll see a .exe called IL2 Game switcher or something. Run that and it's pretty self expanitory.
Except the part where my game doesn't work when I install AAA.
Okay, so what do I do once I have the AAA mod .exe?
Do you have all the parts? Put all 4 parts into a folder then run the exe.
I have everything in one folder on my desktop. I'm about to run it.

Does that water have geometry? It looks sexy. I have AAA mod and mine still looks the same. I'll try the shaders thing.
Server is down.. I will run it later, I'm talking to people on Aim.
Will it be up soon?
Whoa, you guys running a server. So in.
AND this is one of the few games Finland's massive war effort against a numerically, logistically and technically superior Soviet invasion is repesented in.
Does that water have geometry? It looks sexy. I have AAA mod and mine still looks the same. I'll try the shaders thing.
AAA mod does not change the water. You need to find a file called conf.ini and tweak it. Make a backup first, call it "conf original" or something.
Ignore most of the settings. If you want a custom higher resolution you specify it here.

I can't remember which of those I changed so that's the whole window section.
Il-2 gets better performance on OpenGL than DirectX (I believe) so make sure to use OpenGL mode. Here is the section relating to video settings, it is at the bottom.

I have bolded the important settings.
If you have an ATI card, set Water=2, if you have an nVIDIA card, set water=3 or 4 (forget which, but I think 4).
And as someone else mentioned earlier, force anti aliasing on.
The Tempest, one of my personal favourite aircraft, but unable to catch a FW190 which was escaping away into the atmosphere after doing some damage to a group of us while we were attacking supply trains.

You guys should play Hyperlobby more, try out co-op missions, and play with full or near-full realism, it's much more fun!
Soo.... Server up yet?
Changed all the settings, water is 4, and now my keybaord is sticky. I'm amazed at the improvement, and why wouldnt things like this be available in the options? I can't get over at the fact it added moving geometry to the water. Thats just awesome.
Do you know if the values go any higher?
Your keyboard is sticky? :o
Is it possible to play this with mouse & keyboard and still enjoy it? With the controls and all. This looks interesting :P

Yeah it's pretty impressive for a game as old as Il-2 to still look as good as it does, but no, there aren't higher settings. In fact if I understand correctly, the settings didn't always go as high as they do now: the game was actually patched to improve the possible settings. I think that is why it isn't a menu option. I don't know of any other games where patches have improved the graphics!
Also, there is the future to think about:

Almost no info about it yet, and plenty of fake videos on youtube, but lots to look forward to, especially if they support and expand the game the way they have for Il-2. That's my combat flight sim needs for the next 6 years covered right there.
Mouse is not supported for flying.. It's used for view. I use a 360 controller as my joystick. :X

You can fly with mouse and keyboard, that's what I did at first. The mouse is for looking, keyboard controls the plane. The biggest downside of this is it's very hard to make precise, smooth movements with a keyboard. This makes a huge difference: before I got a joystick I regularly ran out of fuel on long missions because my course corrections were affecting the efficiency of the engine.
Honestly, though, you can get a joystick like the Logitech Attack 3, they're pretty cheap and they do the job just fine. The joystick does great things for immersion and it also makes it easier to fly well once you get the hang of it.
Probably gunna rejoin later and fuck you all up with jets again in a WW2 fight.
I'm flying with an old Microsoft Sidewinder at the moment, seems to do the job, though the center is a bit off.

Oh yeah, that problem. I have the same one too. There is a way to fix it though.

Haha, nice to see a fellow Sidewinder user! I'll be using those values, but I'm lost on exactly what that does? Does it make it easier to control with the sidewinder?
Also, what do you guys think of a X52? I might be getting that in March, if the economy doesn't hit Korea that hard.
It makes it so the joystick responds in a curve if you understand what I mean.
If you pull back slightly it wont respond. If you pull a bit more it responds a tiny bit. If you pull back a bit more it will respond a bit faster. And so on and so on.
that's one retared curve then haha

People like you are the reason we need a way to kick assholes off the server.

Exactly!
Does anyone know how to make people admin on IL-2 servers? TicTac is probably going to install a dedicated server soon.
