So are a lot of people playing at the moment ? i just bought the game with all the expansions in the store! :)
At user above me: Nice hud!
Yeah it's the easymode hud. Gonna need it if you don't have a joystick yet.
ctrl+f1 enables it.
Also, how do you widescreen this game? Massive black bars :(
Pics from my old games:

Me and a couple of others chasing a single spitfire over the ocean. You can see him slightly above the lower right corner.

There he goes again, we're still chasing him. He died soon after.

It was incredibly fun. I've also taken a liking to the BF109, the 30mm cannon is absolutely devastating if aimed right.
Edit:
It kinda annoyed me when I had done two great kills, a tricky landing, just when I was about to press refly I got rocketkilled by a tempest.
This game is great. Me and my friends play co-op campaigns over hamachi using DGen.
DGen is a campaign generator which adds 20-30 more campaigns to the origional game, which also features ranking, stats recording and medals. It's good fun playing the invasion of Normandy.
I remember the time when the best player of the enemy team made a huge mistake while dogfighting me, which put him right in front of my sights with very low airspeed (almost stalling). So he was basically a sitting duck. The satisfaction when I riddled his helpless Spitfire with my Zero's trusty machineguns and 20mm cannons was immense.
I love the 109G-6/AS. With MW50 enabled that thing is a fucking beast, especially with a MK108.
About time this thread was made. I do love the IL-2 series.

Is it a serie? More like expansions right..?
My hyperlobby is Sethorion if anyone wants to add me.
If your in the UK or play during GMT hours then do post yours, I'll add you.
I don't know how to set flaps to take-off position, but I never have trouble taking off, I just tend to veer off to one side and have to quickly correct my angle before the wing clips the ground and and roll into an exploding ball of flame and death.
There's also an option to turn off "Take-off and landing" under difficulty, for me it seems to be stuck off and I can't get it to start on the ground.
Does anyone know a good server browser for this game? Because you can't browse servers in the game, you need to enter the IP. I tried hyperlobby, but it asks you to locate the exe, something which can't be done with steam. If anyone can recommend a good, stable server browser I'll add it to the OP.
I don't know if anybody had already beaten me, but no, You CAN use hyperloby with steam version. It is somewhere in "/Steam/steamapps/common/il 2 1946/bin" or something like that, just try to get into Il2 FB lobby (NOT PF one, nobody ever goes here), and let it scan the steam folder.
It works for me so I have no Idea why it shoudn't work for you

1. Defaul manipulation with flap is "V" to lower (as for take-off) and "F" to rise
2. There is no take-off in quick mission builder. This option has only effect on missions, campains etc.
if you have xfire you can also browse servers with that. Just browse to the .exe and select it manually.
How do I use AAA mods with this? I don't want to reinstall for a fourth time.
There's a thread on AAA with instructions on how to get mods working.
Also, thanks Awesomecaek, but now I'll probably start hitting E and bailing out halfway down the runway. Unless of course it's lower case v and f?
Also, amusing story; I was playing as one of 16 US troop transport planes against 3 enemy Bf-109F Aces. I quickly got my engines blown off and jumped out. Soon, all of the US planes were smoking craters on the ground far below, all but one. The Bf-109s were heading back to base, I wandered what the problem was.
I zoomed to the final friendly. Nothing seemed strange, it was flying around in circles slowly heading downwards as if it was preparing for a landing in a field.
Then I looked closer. There was no cockpit, the plane was gliding around for ages with no crew and the paratroopers had presumably bailed out some time before.
I bought it 2 weeks ago, I love that you can fly 200+ planes in it.
My favourite plane is either the Zero or the BF109.
I've noticed good and bad sides in the Zero the most.
+Very agile at low-mid speeds
+Quick
+Good armament
+Very easy to fly, but hard to master
+Looks fucking awesome.
-Roll speed is very bad in higher speeds, like diving attacks
-Cannon shots travel a bit slower than most (preference question)
-Cardboard armor. Getting hit with anything will result in you either blowing up instantly, or getting set on fire and blowing up 20 seconds afterwards.

The zero couldn't dive as fast as american planes because of it's light armor. It would get torn apart. Is it like that in IL-2? I can't remember.
I should probably look into a new joystick or an adapter for my 3D Pro, I remember playing the demo of this and it was pretty fun, and the threads about it of late have piqued my interest once again.
First time I played this I put it on Arcade mode and shot down about seven fighters on my first mission. I thought I was pro and turned it to realistic. Couldn't even take off :(
This game is awesome.
My favorite fighter-bomber is the P-38 Lightning 1944 Late Model. I loved playing this. I bought it at the Ubisoft store, and I might reinstall it later.
Nothing i like better than a few flights in IL-2, life just seems simpler when you're flying a Hurricane.
Can't wait for IL-2 Birds of Prey this year, the graphics are simply stunning.
If you guys are asking about a good joystick, then go for the Saitek x52 pro, it kicks ass and has a profile creator. Also Track IR makes flying so much more awesome.

You have to remove the chock blocks from the wheel.
I think you have to set it.
---
The hardest thing for me is landing, I can't do it after normal mission (150-300MPH), but I can do it when I am at 10,000 in the air and landing at 550Mph for some reason.
That, and conserving ammo, so I set it to infinity.
Also I like the planes with the heavy duty cannons, makes it so much more easy to pop a tail or wing off.
My old joystick isn't up to the job anymore, so i might look into that brand. Also what exactly is Track IR? I've heard it mentioned alot.

Try dropping engine RPMs to around 65% and take your time, you need to be at around 170KPH before you even consider touching the runway. Flaps and gear slow you down, just make sure you're not above 300KPH before letting them down as they jam/ripoff.
EDIT - Bugger, double post.

What? If you don't do that, you can't even start moving along the ground.

I just find it strange that most times after a mission, I end up belly land (crushing my gears on landing) landing on my tail gear, not ripping off my gears.
I know how to land, just actually doing it, without pulling too much force on the gears when I do it.
But if I start a game from 10,000 feet in the air, and and go almost 800kph, I can slow down to about 400 or so, and then pull out my gears and land almost perfect without any damage.
