LeYang, what is your airspeed indicated in? Miles per hour, kilometres per hour or KIAS? Might be why you're having trouble with your speeds..
I don't know how to set flaps to take-off position, but I never have trouble taking off, I just tend to veer off to one side and have to quickly correct my angle before the wing clips the ground and and roll into an exploding ball of flame and death. There's also an option to turn off "Take-off and landing" under difficulty, for me it seems to be stuck off and I can't get it to start on the ground.
Why not actually check your controls in the options and set some of your own?? Also if you're veering off to one side, you've probably got realistic engine features or wind turned on. Don't forget, the engine will either be spinning left or right, so it will pull you in that direction too.. Balls, no automerge..
Its also worth noting that multi-engined aircraft need to have both/all engines started separately, and make sure they are all set to the same power by pressing the "O" key first (by default), to avoid spinning off, if thats part of your problem cheesedelux.

I was just noting how I can do it so much easier from a high speed and high attack angle for some reason. ---
Its also worth noting that multi-engined aircraft need to have both/all engines started separately, and make sure they are all set to the same power by pressing the "O" key first (by default), to avoid spinning off, if thats part of your problem cheesedelux.
You might also want to slowly accelerate the throttle also since one engine might be slower at first, and use "B" to hold your plane until your at full power.
People ALWAYS manage to out maneuver me, what's the best plane to use? Anyone?
Remember trim and flaps DanTehMan, they help maneuvers considerably. There's also no real "best plane", just find one your comfortable with. For example I'll take on anyone in my trusty Hurricane, but its far less maneuverable than say a Spitfire, Hellcat, A6M2 for example.
Ugh, Trim, that word confounds me so.
But it's still fun even when you engine seizes up either by shots, overheat or a combination of both. Also trying to fly a half a wing plane is fun, or trying to regain controls of a plane in a tailspin.
Ugh, Trim, that word confounds me so.
Trim is good to reach your maximum cruising speed, remember out maneuvering someone is partly a guessing game, staying inside their turns means you wont be able to see them at all times, so keep the flaps set to combat in these situations and try to predict where you think they will come out of the turn. Being able to turn tighter is a major advantage. And altitude is always a deciding factor as well, so make sure you start from as high as possible before engaging.
This is probably my favourite game of all time. I started with the Original and have bought every one of the followup games since. The latest one with all the content is Il2 Sturmovik 1946. I've also made some crash videos using it.
YOU... YOU'RE SQUEEKY!?! I've been trying to find who that was on FP for EVER. The worst part of IL2 in my opinion has to be the taking off, I hate the use of the rudder for it because I don't have pedals.
I'm almost ashamed to say it, but that "Failure of the Epic Variety" video is what sold this game to me in the first place and kickstarted my now obsessive interest in WW2 aircraft, so thanks man. lol.
I have the vanilla version of IL-2 that came in a pack with LOMAC and Pacific Fighters, but I found it lacking after I played LOMAC. I mean, I'm sure I'll try to get into it, but I think I want some mods or something for it first.
My favourite plane is either the Zero or the BF109. I've noticed good and bad sides in the Zero the most. +Very agile at low-mid speeds +Quick +Good armament +Very easy to fly, but hard to master +Looks fucking awesome -Roll speed is very bad in higher speeds, like diving attacks -Cannon shots travel a bit slower than most (preference question) -Cardboard armor. Getting hit with anything will result in you either blowing up instantly, or getting set on fire and blowing up 20 seconds afterwards.
And that is the only real turn off for me. Since in most dogfights I manage to get by with a few hits to then outfly my opponent so that he is in my sights. I wouldn't recommend it, but the Warhawk has in insane amount of armor and firepower, only downside is its maneuverability.
Well for one, it's most probably the most realistic flight simulator ever made, with every microscopic detail on aircraft being accounted for.
that's a little exaggerated. And by a little I mean very.
Are there any mods that allow me to fly those bombers and other less combat oriented planes? I want to fly that me-323 behemoth.
Agreed. I want to fly the B-29.
If anyone is looking for a joystick I'd recommend a Saitek Cyborg Evo (there is a force feedback option available) I bought one and it should be coming today. If you can't afford that you could get the Logitech Extreme 3d pro, but some people say it screws up after a few months. Or if you just have a shit ton of money you can get the Saitek x52.

The end of the second one is amazing.
Well, I tried what it said and I get 'HyperLobby can't found game installation!!!. You will not be able to acces mission slots and run the game !!!"
Oh my god.. I was about to make a thread! Also, could someone give me instructions to get Hyperlobby working with Steam?
It's in the OP noob
I love it purely for the sake of killing my allies with the tail gunner or ramming my plane while also dropping explosives into stuff like ships, tanks other planes.
I love IL-2, I haven't played it much recently but now I feel the urge to play again. It does bother me though when people online scream "NOOB PLANE" if you're flying the La-7 or Spitfire.
Are you just playing this game on a keyboard only or something?
I use my Keyboard, Mouse, and my Joystick (Logitech Attack 3, which doesn't have a hat or twist, reason why I use a keyboard.). I personally like P63, and P38.
Well, I tried what it said and I get 'HyperLobby can't found game installation!!!. You will not be able to acces mission slots and run the game !!!"
Don't set hyperlobby for IL2, set it for forgotten battles.
I did. il2fb.exe
Oh and it's not that realistic. Planes don't actually have many parts. Flaps couple wing sections and tail. Especially shooting someone doesn't look very realistic as just the texture changes until you've done enough damage for that part to pop off.
That's not particularly true. Even just one wing contains a plethora of parts that are damged seperately, aside from just the flight surface. And its also better if you're using one of the newest planes, as the models get better with the newer and more popular content. Just one wing is divided into 6 panels, aerilons, flaps, inner flaps (if they're there), flap hydraulics, aerilon control leads, cannons (if on the wings), cannon ammo (if stored in the wings), fuel tanks, rocket payload, and bomb payload (if stored like it is in some Sturmoviks). It's possible to put a hole in the wing of a sturmovik so that you can see the bomb payload inside it, given that it didnt go off. The added drag of the bent up wing panels even decreases your speed and you don't lift as well. You also speak as if they tail is one peice. In gibbing and damage models, its 8. In internals, its an additional 5. 13 things to go wrong all together, just in the tail. And if you have a split fuesalage with 2 tailplanes, its a much bigger number.
Well the La7 is a noob plane. Oleg and krew made that thing ridiculously overpowered.
Yeah but still, people should be able to fly what they want, and if the whiners can't shoot down an La-7 then that's their problem.
The silly nazis are running from my obvious soviet might. I've never actually seen men in this other than you're own pilots and AA gunners, I was impressed.
