Why don't you set flaps/pull up (they're called AIRplanes for a reason)/or set full throttle to gain enough speed, and then even out to get up to a steady climb rate, then attacking, which is a whole 'nother pussy to fuck.

I'm guessing it's one of those games that's totally unforgiving and you will die constantly and not kill anything for a few hours until you hit a certain level of skill

This site has a good explanation of the whole deal, although for some reason it seems to redirect to an ad site sometimes... if it does that just hit "back" and then "stop" quickly to prevent it loading the ad site.
It also has info about overspeeding the engine, which explained many a mysterious engine degradation I had experienced after a power dive.
I'm gonna continiue playing on Edberg's server. It's more realistic, and people are usually better there! :D
