Does anyone know if a joystick is REALLY needed? Can you just fly with a mouse like the Battlefield series? Because my joystick is: A. 10 years old B. Needs a serial port to USB connector C. It's yaw sort of leans to the left, which needs constant correction D. No I'm not getting a joystick anytime soon :(

In other words get one. Get either the logitech attack 3 or logitech extreme 3d pro, if you can't afford either of them then you must not have a house to live in or something because I got the attack 3 today and it was like $30 AUS which should be like $20 US dollars. And no, you can't fly the plane with the mouse, flying in this game is much harder and complicated than flying in BF2.

We had some great fun messing around with the attachment of planes on the TB3. We had to land (and after numerous tries, because of Ace kamikazing into us all the time) we both got under JeRK's wing and attached (after Ace got off the server)... AND TOOK OFF. that's pretty awesome. I was wondering what those supports did. what are the advantages of doing that tho?

It works, but like in those other sims, it's far, far harder to do so and you can't use some of the controls properly. Joysticks don't cost that much, mine was £17 if I remember correctly and it's a pretty damned good one, apart from the suckers which suck because they don't suck.

Far far harder than what? Flying with arrow keys? I did not find a way to map your mouse.. Flying with arrow keys now..So planes that stall easy are avoided by me. The more engines the better.

Haha, yesterday me and longy had pirate ship battles at 2k in our epic planes. I'm off to go to the retailer where I got my pedals to see what they can do.

Are all you guys running IL-2 1946 cause I only have IL-2FB and ACEs and last time I tried to play MP I kept getting errors from not having the latest game/patch.
