I used to work on music for another project (wesnoth to be exact), and the one thing we used to say the most to people who commented on the music but ended it with "I'm no musician" was "Who cares? You, the player, are going to be hearing it all the time, so you have every right to critique the music." In other words, it doesn't matter who you are, criticism is the only way things get better.

Syncopated is the word you're looking for.
I agree on the fact that it needs an underlying beat/bass line to keep it all together though.

Nah, but we started it. Other people can help too, but that's up to us guys. The more people you have contributing to a mod, the harder it is to manage and organize.
