The ring looks weird. Unless the planet's meant to have an ocean thousands of miles deep, with a perfectly circular continent in the middle, I like the original better. More color variation there, too.

transparency animation masks are easy to add in vmts. you could make a pretty boss bg if the planet is a separate vtf from the background.
