I use it because it gets rid of everything that blurs your vision, no bloom, and it gets rid of the sun so you aren't blinded by it when a capper flees to it relative to you.
I was a tech, sitting in base with my turret, I decided to VGTG, then am immediately decimated by an air strike.

So on that one map with the two floating bases I get a double cap as pathfinder by waiting near the flag and as soon as it's returned I boost into it and sprint off
18 second cap.

I entered the secret code 'GOTTAGOFAST', I didn't know what it did until I literally just read up on it, apparently it just changes the KPH/MPH/Whatever the fuck speed is measured in for Tribes, into SANICS.
That has to be the shittiest secret code i've ever known.

The big cliffs with towers on them in Katabatic are great to get a lot of speed, especially if you start from the top of the tower.
Alternatively, explosives.

launch a tactical strike and time it so that each explosion happens just behind you

Cheat engine, speed hack, go ultra-fast through the map.
But so far people doing this have been apparently banned quite fast.

Or as a pathfinder use the basic grenade, which is made to deal smaller damage with big knockback.

It's pretty silly to have EU v.s. USA on this game, ping actually has some importance, and the US snipers are really screwing up the EU caps. It'll be much harder for EU Sentinels to be as effective when they all have 100+ pings.
