The Phase Rifle is pretty weak but it works essentially like a Quake 3 railgun; when I play Sentinel, I go with the Phase Rifle, Falcon SMG, Energy Pack, Claymores, Ultra Capacitor, and Survivalist. I blast players with the rifle as they come towards me, then hose them down with the SMG. I alternate between being a godlike murder machine and being useless when I play Sentinel. I think the biggest problem with the class is the [I]massive[/I] skill cliff for players trying to use it. IMO, they should start out with a rifle that doesn't do as much damage but is slightly easier to use (fraction of a degree of auto-aim?).

Set up jammers to cover base so infilitrators rage. I use stock loadout with Bounty Hunter and Super Heavy. BXT is just better for defense, Nova Blaster is beast when you learn how to aim it, highest sustained DPS of any non-grenade weapon in the game. Crossfire for example, place 2 jammers to cover all of base, place claymores covering both entrances to generator room and one covering the top spawn/tube between levels. Hear the click of a claymore, go finish them off with Nova Blaster. Or shot with Nova Blaster till they retreat toward generator room, and die to claymores. I agree with the skill cliff, the first game of the day I am practically useless for the first half until I get the lead/timing for fast moving targets back down. I eventually have 2-3 people going after just me because I keep sniping them, then its time for me to spend my credits and either defensive shrike or beowulf depending on map. Sentinel would be so much better to play if the crosshair didn't suck, its hard enough landing a 20km headshot off just an IFF tag, its worse when that is blocked by the crosshair. I want the Nova Blaster on more classes, its like the original Blaster, but more useful.
