Cool
Melee is terrible in conjunction with moving objects. This is because range gets reduced when you are walking backwards. This makes it so that someone can hit you if they are chasing you and you can't hit them.
This problem happens in almost every Source game I can think of with melee weapons.
That isn't a problem. A good game is one that you can win by doing the unexpected and making it work.
Half-Life 3
I think they should finish/restart working on The Crossing. That game was going to be awesome. I only assume it faded because of Left 4 Dead taking lead development with the team.

Or because it was being made by not valve.
The Crossing is an upcoming first-person shooter video game, under development at Arkane Studios with assistance from Valve Corporation, fusing single and multi-player gameplay. However as of May 15th, 2009 the game is considered "On Hold" according to Arkane Studios CEO and creative director Raphael Colantonio.
I'd like to see valve adopt the Tribes series.
After Episode 3, Left 4 Dead 2 and Portal 2? Will we still be alive?

This.
Some kind of MMO would be an interesting step. I would never play it, but it would be awesome to see what they come up with.

TF2 goes that way
I wonder what will be EP3's box
Each Episode so far has had a multiplayer component. Ep1 was HL:DMS, Ep2 was TF2, what will Ep3's be? The only thing we know about is Portal 2, and they said they tried Portal MP and it was shit. WHAT WILL IT BE?

How can you play Portal online? it has no guns... Why did they even test that...

They probably mean if it was an FFA, you'd be using other portals to trap/kill people i.e fire portals at people's feet, or have objects fall on them, etc.
I don't think valve is going away from the FPS-with-an-extremely-big/deep-storyline style they've used so far. Half-Life, speaks for itself, so do Portal and Team Fortress 2. Speculations tell that even Counter-Strike: Source and Day of Defeat: Source are somewhat linked to the entire story behind TF2, HL and Portal. I don't know 'bout L4D though.
All I can think of is another game/series which concludes the storyline and clears shit up, but still having the traditional valve style of FPS's.
And after that, Fuck Shit Up or something completely new.

TF2 isn't set in the HL universe, what
TF2 isn't set in the HL universe, what
Neither can Day of Defeat or Counter Strike be linked to it.

It entirely plausible that L4D takes place after DoD and CS:S, however HL2 and TF2 most likely are set in different universes
Half-Life 3
...Valve says that the episodics ARE Half Life 3.

TF2, yeah, but CS:S could be set before HL1, even. Same with DoD.
Are you people trying to fit DoD, CS, and L4D in half life canon?
It entirely plausible that L4D takes place after DoD and CS:S, however HL2 and TF2 most likely are set in different universes
DoD: 194-
CS:S: 2001
HL2: 2021
TF2: 1969
L4D: Alt. Universe in which the Rabies virus evolved and cause a massive outbreak in 2008, considering the death messages on the church wall.
They all take place at different times, and are not connected in any truly notable way. Except for Portal and HL2; That's just obvious.

.
No. They said it, but then they figured out they shouldn't, because the episodes are the content what were in the Half-Life 2 Beta. The beta had all (almost) things which were in episodes. Borealis, Antlion caves etc.
I don't have high hopes for it. They need to do something other than 'moving camera with guns', but that's all their games have ever been, I think they're too pussy to do something else.

The oranger box
Ofcousre.

TF2 has connections with the mysterious TF industries and Spytech Industries, which, according to speculations, are linked to Black Mesa and/or Aperture Science.
It's also said that CS:S is either before HL1, or a simulation program used by Aperture.
It's just what I heard here and there from different persons though.

TF industries - no
Spytech - yes, but only as an easter egg
