Parody? I think not sir. Also I forgot the Icthysaurus
Replay "A Red Letter Day" in HL2 and tell me if you see a big fish.
It just seems a bit weird when it went from shit loads of alien interaction from even being on their planet at one point, to almost no alien interaction. [editline]09:13PM[/editline]
Replay "A Red Letter Day" in HL2 and tell me if you see a big fish.
okay... [editline]09:42PM[/editline] Oh yeah that's great, I forgot about the Itchyosaur in that level, but seriously you see that for like 2-3 seconds and you never get to shoot it or see it eat some combines or civilians. So still lame.
Personally, I'm kinda fed up with the Ant lions :/ The combine are good, kinda faceless foes that make you feel awesome when you beat the crap out of em :) But Antlions.....they annoy me :/ It's just....Antlions, gravity gun, hit the car a few times to block off the hole. Done. :( [editline]09:50PM[/editline] Personally, I'm kinda fed up with the Ant lions :/ The combine are good, kinda faceless foes that make you feel awesome when you beat the crap out of em :) But Antlions.....they annoy me :/ It's just....Antlions, gravity gun, hit the car a few times to block off the hole. I wonder how HL2 would be like if they included the cut Mr. Friendly alien from HL.
The Combine travel from planet to planet, enslaving the planets' various species and modifying them for suitable purposes. It is likely that perhaps the Bullsquid species died out during the Combine's invasion of Earth, or maybe they were modified beyond what they originally looked like. This applies to all the synthetics you see in the Half-Life 2 games (Striders, Hunters, Fast Headcrabs, Poison Headcrabs etc.)
As far as I know, Bullsquids DO still exist in the HL universe. Eli's leg was lost due to one, and (if I remember correctly) when you first enter Black Mesa East and go down the elevator, the Vort's that are cooking have cut up chunks of Houndeyes on their benches (haven't really checked this one out, so iunno). They were also supposed to be as common in HL2 as they were in HL1 (Houndeyes and Bullsquids). The only reason I can see them being removed was either for ballancing reasons, or they just couldn't find anywhere to fit them in. Still, I wish we at least saw some sort of a cameo appearance of them, like they did with the Icthysaurus.
I think they should just add more aliens when you're outside of the city (if that happens in EP3).
When I played HL2 I thought: "WHERE THE FUCK IS MY GARGANTUA?!" That was my favorite zen creature. R.I.P. Garg :(
R.I.P. Garg :(
black mesa: source
black mesa: source
i cannae wait
HL1 took place in the US, and I'm 90% sure that HL2 took place in Europe, so different aliens in different places.
I love bullsquid and houndeye, no Idea why they weren't added. Hell, the combine ball explosion is pretty much a houndeye sonic boom.
Bullsquid and houndeye were probably eradicated seeing as how they were deemed useless to combine control. Headcrabs were probably used because they have simplistic needs, can be produced quickly, and until Episode One, were of no danger to combine forces. Fuck them, I just want the Ichthyosaur, would have made the Airboat levels so much more interesting. Having to deal with metrocops, helicopters, APCs, AND Ichthyosaurs on the airboat levels would keep people on the edge of their seats.
I want the Immolators back. They already exist in the storyline, just put them back in!
Well, I see it like this. There is what 3 major factions in the Half-life 2 universe? The rebels, the combine, and the antlions. Each one is really big in numbers and controls sections of the world. The combine don't want to worry about being bothered by troublesome aliens, like the bullsquid, which was a really aggressive alien, they took out any of them they could find. The rebels did the same. Why when your numbers are little, try to deal other things, they took out the houndeye and bullsquids, but the Vorts are a more human-like race, they were just slaves controlled by a hivemind(?). The antlions also worse than both the other factions, because they, like ants build forces fast, can come from underground and are HUGE in numbers, thus any lost bullsquid or houndeye is killed right away. Also bullsquid, if you remember were primarily a water-based alien, and in HL2 all the water is infected with those leech things, thus adding to the decline of the bullsquid. How do the antlions make it alive then? Well, if you remember exploring the caves, humans were a great food for the antlions, along with headcrabs. This also brings to play the headcrabs, they're only in HL2, because they're like a spider, you can always kill one, but another is just gonna replace it. They can't just be stomped out, because they usually are in packs, and they can take over human and combine, and become a "zombie" which poses a worse threat than a normal headcrab. Also if I remember correct, the XEN were on the run from the combine, because the combine are a "galaxy" ruling race. They ran out of resources on other planets they took over and work their way to new one, enslaving the creatures there, or just killing them if they have no use for them. Humans though, showed great potential for a "clone" like army and slave race. So they didn't kill us off right away, they killed our armies, or what was left of them, because of the XEN teleporting in i'm sure they also teleported out of Black mesa. I mean i'm probably just blabbering ,but it makes sense to me.
THe Headcrabs and Zombies are their own faction. Remember the mines with all the Headcrabs? They took a long time to kill, and leaving a couple around meant death after that long fall, considering you were semi-careful and didn't take too much fall damage. And if you've played Opposing Force you'd now that the G-Man [sp]blew up Black Mesa with a nuclear warhead,[/sp] so the aliens couldn't have teleported out of there. The Resonance Cascade and the Portal Storms probably unleased the rest of the fauna from Xen into the Earth, and created the known countryside.
Weren't Antlions on Xen? I remember the Vort you went into the antlion nest with said that Vortigaunts used to domesticate antlions.

I also forgot about headcrabs being their own faction, but ya you're right there to.
Uh, gee. Maybe because the FOCUS of Half-Life 2 is on the Combine's takeover on Earth and the Resistance's fight to take it back?
Uh, gee. Maybe because the FOCUS of Half-Life 2 is on the Combine's takeover on Earth and the Resistance's fight to take it back?
Then it would've been just Human vs Combine, which is basically Human vs Human. It's about a struggle to fight against a overwhelming race, while dealing with a government agent, and etc.

The antlions are there to annoy you. That's their purpose in the game. Just like headcrabs and manhacks.

Antlions come from the same place as the vorts - in Ep. 2 one tells you that they 'used to practice antlion husbandry' and bred them for the extract. Presumably, the antlions came across or were brought across with/by the vorts, then got out of control and bred in the wild.
I agree with the thread, I missed the bullsquid and houndeye, and some of the mos epic of epic monsters VALVe have a thing of switching things around like that, like remember how many monsters were taken out of hl1? Plus i think the whole Leak of hl2 would have somthing to do with this, they had to redisign most of the game who knows what we missed out on 'cause of that one german dude!
I think they should just add more aliens when you're outside of the city (if that happens in EP3).
This. I thought Whiteforest in EP2 was the perfect enviroment for the bullsquid to make a comeback. I was to see who wins between a bullsquid and a hunter.
What if in Episode 3 Xen came and fucked shit up again :aaaaa: It's unlikely but it would be crazy. Also yeah, I was disappointed when I found out Houndeyes and the like were taken from HL2. :saddowns:
I still think it would be awesome if at least one of the giant Xen aliens made a comeback. Even if you didn't get to fight it, just watch it killing some combines or rebels. Like a Garg or a Tentacle. A bit like in HL2 when you're watching the combine on camera, and then all of a sudden an Antlion Guard comes and totally bitch slap owns them. This thread hurts my head to read... But there is a Bullsquid in HL2... He tried to eat you remember? But remember the Combine takes the "Races" that can benefit their colony, everything else is eradicated. (This was stated before somewhere in this thread, I can't remember where) [editline]09:37AM[/editline] This thread hurts my head to read... But there is a Bullsquid in HL2... There are no Bullsquids in HL2. In the leak there were but not in the final version.
