because we don't give a damn about the company because they are doing fine
lower the price of the game... nuff said
Nothing. That's all I have to say.
Allow customers to buy and download said game from the game's website, and lower prices. I never pirate games I can easily buy on STEAM.
Release good game demos.
Price games much lower. Like $10 - $30.
Release decent demos. FEAR, FEAR 2 and Sins did it right. The Sins demo lets you play like 3 hours and then you have to buy the game.
Also, lower the prices on your games by 5-10 bucks. I mean, really.
Lower prices, and stuff not sucking. Hell, Valve have shown that reducing the price by 75% can boost sales by over 1000%.
As for the games not sucking bit, I pirated Soldier of Fortune 3 because I expected it'd be shit. Same goes for Burnout Paradise and GRAW. I bought FEAR 2 because I thought it'd be good. Same goes for Gran Turismo Prologue, MGS4, OB, Gears of War, Crysis and many many more.
Whenever I pirate something, it's because I don't think it's worth the money. But that doesn't necessarily mean they've lost out on a sale. NIN Ghosts I-IV being a fine example. I pirated that to begin with, then after listening to it for a while I thought "hey this is really awesome" and ordered it from Amazon. That may seem like a waste of money to some but fuck it, if they earned it, they earned it.
-Better demos
-Old-style serial protection or other good DRMs
-Replay value (You can't expect me to pay $50 for Mirror's Edge)
-$40 for a game instead of $50
I think that's about it. I'm not gonna mention Steam, because I used to love them but it's been pissing the fuck out of me the last 4 days and not letting me play a single game.
I would lower the prices some, $50 is quite a lot for a game, especially a singleplayer only one.
That, and offer a bunch of incentives for paying for it, such as community features, free content updates, and better servers.

..right.
So they're just more expensive where you live and transfer to $90?

This.
Since I got my Visa and a verified PayPal, I haven't felt any huge need for pirating, as most of the releases I'd want is available there.
If we could have had Steam and similar services earlier (think Spotify), piracy would have stayed minor.
for all you idiots that say free games, you obviously are casual gamers and don't understand the gaming industry. If all games were free, there would be NO POINT in making them.
1.No money made.
2.No money to make
3.All companys would go out of business and there fore, there would be no games exept little flash games on the web.
If you want free games, play flash games. there's so many you wont run out. dont try and ruin gaming for everyone.
Piracy saves me money.
I would go with dial up or satellite connections.
I never pirate any Valve games, Because there too awesome.
I will pirate any EA game without hesitation, Fuck DRM, Fuck your install limits, When i pay for a game i want to own the fucking thing, Now i refuse to buy any EA game in a store, Except Battlefield and Burnout.
I wont pirate Indie games, They need support.
Ps3 cant be pirated for, So ill buy games for that
Also, If games prices were lowered here in Aus i would buy more games.
A law that actually makes you pay more than 15 euros from pirating. Or that there would be chance to get caught.
Also, we need more hilarious endorsements.
"COD SO AND SO - NOW WITH FREE RED BULL FOR ALL YOUR ULTRA GAMING PERFORMANCE NEEDS!"
If it became illegal.
OH SNAP!
Far Cry got free but you have ads in it
Far Cry got free but you have ads in it
You know, ads during loading screens wouldn't be so bad, if it meant games came cheaper. I mean, that little "server graphics" box in the BF2 loading screens? I could live with a Subway ad in that box in Singleplayer games as well.

I agree, and subtle in-game adverts wouldn't be so bad either.
I don't pirate.

Or gigantic billboard along roads in racing games, or posters around the buildings in an fps.
I don't pirate.
same here.. you guys are soooooo poor if you do
What would stop you from pirating?
Steam.
I don't pirate.
Have a medal!
same here.. you guys are soooooo poor if you do
So what if they are, being poor isn't exactly something you sign up for.
All of em' being free.
I mean.. like, I'd pay for a game I believe the developers have put work into, like all of VALVe's games. But for some shit made in a week I would not think about buying.
I'm sure this comment has done nothing but stir up controversy. There were many points stated in this post that can be easily disagreed with.
A ban from FP for hinting at warez
What stops me from pirating a game is either good multiplayer, or when it is a pain in the ass to keep getting patches that improve performance. GTA IV was an example of this, I got fed up with the fancy cracks and needed the patches to get better frames and ended up buying it on steam instead. Also I always buy Valves game because they have never let me down. So I guess you can go with brand trustworthyness there.
I'd also be willing for ingame advertising as long as it isn't intrusive and brings down the price.
