The problem with demos is that, if the game's demo is bad, the people aren't likely to buy that game, in which the publisher/developer brings down profits just because they make a demo.
This, along with laziness and brand name (Like Halo - people recognize Halo, so they go out and by the new one, removing the need for a demo), is why developers don't make demos often.
The only problem I have with this solution, is that the reduced income may effect the quality of the games and future games to come.
At least people will actually buy the games
Demos. The only reason I would pirate because I want to know what the game is like before spending $50 on it.
This. I want to try the game before I buy it.
Money
A) Fifty bucks is teetering on the bleeding edge of what I'd pay for a game. GTAIV is one of the few games that I can honestly say is worth every penny due to the sheer amount of... stuff. Maybe lowering the price a little... 40/35 maybe. This one is a bit more debatable.
B) Stop using shitty copy protection that's frustrating and stupid.
Ba) STOP. USING. SECUROM.
C) Keep support for the game active and I won't feel like pirating your game just to spite you.
D) Keep an archive of your older installments that are hard to find in normal stores on your website with reliable servers that you can download for like a buck. I mean, seriously. Mostly... the only reason I would pirate game is because it's old and you couldn't like just walk into Wal-Mart and buy it. Think if Konami started digitally distributing Silent Hill 2/3 for a buck a download. That would be so awesome.
E) STOP. USING. SECUROM.
Ea) SERIOUSLY. STOP.
F)uck you, Securom.
G) Better and longer demos to see if I actually want to spend my hard-earned money on your game. This might not actually be a smart move for them, but it's honest business practice. Ugh. If I had played Mercs 2 for five minutes, I would have NEVER payed $50 for that steaming load.
I don't want to pay 50 euros for a newly released game.
Seriously, wtf?
seriously, wtf you know, those games don't take millions to make and publish.
50$ bucks or 50 euros (which is like 100$?) is fine by me.
Get an job, do oddjobs,

B-F I haven't had an problem with it, infact I've only seen it on one budget game.
G(Agree on longer demos
C( you only spite your self, they'll just stop making games, go ahead, go torrent COD6/MW2 and see what happens. They lose profits, they stop making games.
Computers are not pew pew game machines, you should know how to do support by your self. (If you meant help support)
I don't pirate but just give me a good demo, like the crysis demo was enough to sell me like ut2k4

That's funny you should mention COD6, because the game I was referring to was CoD5.
I'm not talking about help support. I'm extremely computer savvy, and I've never run into a fixable problem I didn't eventually figure out. I'm talking about patches and DLC. When CoD5 first came out, the multiplayer (Also known as: the only reason I bought the damn thing) was broken and absolutely inoperable for some due to connection issues. The devs just completely disappeared off the forums and it took them absolutely forever to get a patch out. Long after I had lost interest.
I would love in game ads in games like GTA it would make it feel more real and cheaper

Then don't make a shitty demo. What's the problem? If you made a decent game, making a decent demo is piece of cake.
I'm willing to bet that 20% of any company's sale profit comes from gamers who are unhappy with their purchase because of hype and lack of demo, and an unhappy customer shouldn't be paying. Compare to restaurants that serves you a shitty meal after advertising it as the most delicious you ever had.
In other words, the developers aren't WILLFULLY ripping people off that way, but at the same time they are not doing anything to prevent it either.
I live in Australia.
I am a pirate.
I will stop pirating when they get rid of this Australian pay more for games for no reason. There aint no Tax or anything. They just cost more here. $100 per game is just wrong
Nothing would stop me. I only buy the good games, the games that have earned the money.
Look at XIII. Kinda old game for PC. In my country its only 29 EEK which should be about 2$.
Even if it has cartoonish graphics it was good game. Nicely spent week for ending the single player + pretty good online game. Also i tried the Demo (for PS2 when i had it) A whole 1st level which was hell of fun.
If all games were that cheap and long(single player) not like Half life 2 episode 1 (5 hrs and i did it) i would buy more games.
Ofcourse i have pirated old games like Doom II :O
And people still play Doom II online. A lot of fun killing Cyberdemons with other people.

From what I've noticed, a candy bar that costs 1.00 in US will be 2.00 in Australia for one of the same size, and minimum wage is almost twice as much.
For me it comes down to a few areas:
1) Older and less known games more widely available. For example downloading from the internet.
2) Demo's for ALL GAMES, I don't want to waste my money on a crap game so give us a demo to show it is good.
3) Cheaper prices, we know games are hard to develop but the amount of people that will buy a new game if it was just £10 or £15 cheaper would more than make up for the money lost with the price reduction.
4) No CD needed in drive to play. I travel a lot and have games on my laptop, having to take CD's round with you is just annoyed, they get scratched, lost or broken. Best way would be to have you install them from a CD or the internet (your choice) and then play without the disc in the drive.
i never pirate games :D only cause i have virgin media for a provider and they track this shit
Nothing would stop me. I only buy the good games, the games that have earned the money.
But I bet you play the 'bad' games all the way through to 'make sure they're bad'?
or posters around the buildings in an fps.
Would make me lol if I saw a Subway ad in a WW2 game.
But I bet you play the 'bad' games all the way through to 'make sure they're bad'?
I said that I pay for games that REALLY are worth it. Like Fallout, Diablo etc.
It's free and plays as good as if it were purchased, sometimes better, so why purchase the game when you get it for free?
I don't pirate games though, I have GameFly and normally get the console alternative.
Also, the extra companies tack on for shipping.
Funnily enough, GTA 4 is still widely legally available as imports in Thailand.

You sir, are wrong.
At least they are not going to be knocking on your door, hell your paying them money.
I'll be happy to buy a game when they remove all this useless copy protection which causes more problems for people who buy it than people who download, and a reduction in price would be good, no way would I pay more than £20 for a game.
Until that happens they will get no money from me.
So what if they are, being poor isn't exactly something you sign up for.
yes cuz all poor people got internet and a computer..
yes cuz all poor people got internet and a computer..
ahem
Computer = single payment £200~
Internet = £10~/month
Game = £20-50 each
Many people, myself included don't have the money to waste on games.
Piracy costs nothing to myself, and the chance of getting caught is very low indeed.
yes cuz all poor people got internet and a computer..
Actually, yes. I know people who live in downtrodden trailer parks and still has at least one computer. Internet access is rapidly becoming as common as access to radio.
Also, students who has literally got NO cash to spare usually brought their computer with them from their family home (or was provided a laptop).

Well, I don't have the money to waste on cars, but you don't see me stealing a Ferrari...
"I don't have the money" is the worst fucking excuse ever for stealing a game. If you don't have the money for something, you don't get it. :downs:

Yeah, your right, it's stealing but the point is, no one gives a fuck.

A car will serve you for 15 years if need be. An average game today ~1 week, then it's up to you to mod it or re-play the best you can to get more out of it.

That's why a car is thousands of dollars and a game is <$50 ...
Plus, there are a few games that are worth their shit ten times over. I mean, with the amount of time I've played Counter-Strike... That game is worth its weight in gold.
