That's why a car is thousands of dollars and a game is <$50 ...
Plus, there are a few games that are worth their shit ten times over. I mean, with the amount of time I've played Counter-Strike... That game is worth its weight in gold.
A car will always serve its purpose no matter which one you buy. A videogame certainly isn't like that, especially today. There is no guarantee that your hard-earned money is well spent.
The videogame market is degrading. If games were surrounded with all the kinds of warranties and "Guaranteed happy customer"-stuff that cars were, we would not have people downloading games because they "can't afford".
When someone says "I can't afford games" they mean "I can't afford to regularly gamble with 50$ by buying a game I might not like, or that might not even work well on my rig".
Because that's what videogame purchases is today; A gamble. More demos please. You'd never buy a car without taking it for a spin first.
Buy games like mount and blade, pirate games like spore.
so now poor people can steal stuff and no one cares??
I usually pirate games that I can't afford, or really old games. So probably lower prices and release older ones.
ahem
Computer = single payment £200~
Internet = £10~/month
Game = £20-50 each
Many people, myself included don't have the money to waste on games.
Piracy costs nothing to myself, and the chance of getting caught is very low indeed.
Wait, what? If you want a computer that can play a game younger than 7 years old, you would have to spend atleast 400
I don't pirate, but I think a $30 release price would be a good idea.
they cost to much :buddy:
IPRED FUCK YOU
You sir, are wrong.
At least they are not going to be knocking on your door, hell your paying them money.
I'll be happy to buy a game when they remove all this useless copy protection which causes more problems for people who buy it than people who download, and a reduction in price would be good, no way would I pay more than £20 for a game.
Until that happens they will get no money from me.
wait so they don't track it?
I'll stop pirating when publishers and developers abide by the Gamer's Bill of Rights in full.
This is the biggest load of self righteous idealistic horseshit I can think of. I can guarantee this bill of rights will never be followed.
It would be cataclysmic and counter productive to the publishers and developers.
This.
I live in Australia.
A new release is around $90 for a PC game.
I don't want to spend that much on something I will probably only use for an hour or two.
I'm only use this car once for a couple of hours, so I'm going to steal it.
ALL Pro piracy arguments are assholeish
'pirate ea games' but 'buy indie games' etc etc
-if everyone did this, would they have any money to make more games? because you're stealing their income?
pirates rely on other people to do the buying for them.
I can agree with 'Gamers shall have the right to modify their games to alter their singleplayer experience.' but that doesn't make stealing it necessary
"I didn't sign up for being poor" - Doesn't justify piracy at all. You don't buy what you can't afford. But you shouldn't steal it either.
Before you commit to buying something, usually you research it thoroughly to ensure you're making the right decision - Piracy is an easy way to skip this process. Doesn't make it any less okay though.
Of course! Why would you pay for something you don't have to. If only I could illegally download my shopping, bills and petrol! I would be a better human being for doing so.
Admittedly, I am a hypocrite in some respects, though like most of you I don't blame anyone, ("omg they put copy protection on that affects the game slightly!!!") especially not the game devs you're cheating. Piracy is a terrible thing, and I certainly don't glorify pirates as heroes or support or condone piracy.
I'll stop when SWAT comes busting down my door and tackles me out of my chair.
Realistic prices and games actually worth buying.
You know, games that are fun and have more then 6 hours worth of gameplay.
This thread needs less "media is expensive / records just exploit the artists / I'm protesting DRM / big companies are bad" and more "piracy is not actually immoral."
The idea that there is no difference between unauthorized copying and stealing is really nothing more than a very successful propaganda campaign on the part of major intellectual property holders. When something is stolen, somebody is deprived of that thing, which is the main source of the immorality inherent in theft. When something is copied without the intellectual property owner's permission, nobody actually loses anything - they just end up getting less of a return on their investment than they otherwise would have.
Believe it or not, there are ways to make money off of the production of media without attempting to simply legislate the same rules that apply to physical goods into applying to copies of information. Advertisement is one of them, fund and release is another.
i've purchased all of the VALVe games I own
Give me an example of someone successfully pirating Half-Life 2 and I will applaud you.
I buy games that I feel deserve to be bought.
Exactly what I do.
I've never pirated a Valve game and I bought Dawn of War, Winter Assault and Dark Crusade. I bought Fallout 3 and Grand Theft Auto IV. Those are just games I have bought within the last year or so.
Give me an example of someone successfully pirating Half-Life 2 and I will applaud you.
I've got a friend who has a pirated version of Half Life 2: Episode One.
I only pirate old games that I can't find in stores. Games that I really want, such as Dawn of War 2, I automatically buy, no questions asked. If something is released days earlier in another part of the world, compared to the US release date, I'd pirate it just to play it. As soon as it was released in stores where I live, I'd buy it, no questions asked.
What?
There aren't any games (that I've seen, excluding Collector Editions and whatnot) that cost anywhere near $90.
He's obviously from Australia, Here a console game will cost you AUS$100 or AUS$120 for a PS3 game and a PC game will be about AUS$90
I'm in AUS. Every game that has a console and is new is $100, and $110 or more for Collector edition.
and we get everything last.
hell, not too long ago Rockband came out here, and even more recently Rockband on the Wii. America's got Rockband 2 already FFS!
It's funny how EA is so ironic...They made DRM to stop pirating, but it doesn't seems to stop.....
And it's so damn useless. You see tons of ea games with DRM on torrent sites.
A crossbow pointed at my testicles would probably do the trick.
A crossbow pointed at my testicles would probably do the trick.
okay *pointing a crossbow at ngwoo's ball's* WUUHUUU one pirate down
I would stop pirating when it becomes possible for somebody my age to get a job. I would love nothing more than to get a part time job and earn a little money, but a 14 year old in NYC has no hope of finding work. I don't have money to be throwing away at games I probably wont even like. I still pay for my games most of the time, I just have to prioritize. I.e I bought fallout 3 for 360 and then when I got a new computer, I pirated the PC version because I don't want pay for the same game twice, and if a game has DRM I most likely wont pay for it unless I really want it and can't be arsed to wait for a slow torrent.
Not putting SecuROM on every single fucking game you release.
More Demos.
Longer Games because im fed up of completing games like cod4 or cod5 in a day
Only my death will stop me from pirating...
I would love in game ads in games like GTA it would make it feel more real and cheaper
Yeah I'm sick of drinking "spunk" or eating "kansas cooked babies" or what the fuck ever they come up with. I'd rather drink a COKE or eat some KFC. Fuck those made up ones.
Unless of course it's made up for comedy like some are in GTAIV.

Yes, and I've personally spent a considerable amount of time replaying HL2, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
That's what all games should be like in the perfect world. Sadly, today you are more likely to bring a game home, play it for a few hours over the course of a couple of days, then go "Bleh", because the game really wasn't good, or didn't match your taste at all.
There is no way for you to know this on beforehand, (unlike cars, where you always get to try the car for hours before your purchase). I can VERY well understand the piracy that's motivated by lack of demos and overabundance of hype, because buying an expensive game today is like putting them on a Blackjack table. You win, or lose.
Those who pirate games "to try them out" and still end up playing them through are just massive hypocrites though.
Zeno Clash just did.
Make the game free but then you have to buy the in game items, newer levels, weapons with real cash money.
No wait, that is already seen in most Free to play games.
