It's not the fact people can afford it, the prices are terrible nowadays.
i mean the game companies can afford to lower prices.
i mean the game companies can afford to lower prices.
Just because VALVe can doesn't mean every company can.
When EA releases hold of all the good* companies.
*Westwood
lower prices
Just because VALVe can doesn't mean every company can.
I'm sure Epic Games had an increase in revenue by lowering the price on UT3 for a week when Titan Pack came out.
I bet most of Steam's weekend deals generate a lot of money. But yeah, lowering the prices may not help in brick 'n mortar stores.
I'll stop pirating when publishers and developers abide by the Gamer's Bill of Rights in full.
* Gamers shall have the right to return games that don’t work with their computers for a full refund.

* Gamers shall have the right to expect meaningful updates after a game’s release.
* Gamers shall have the right to demand that download managers and updaters not force themselves to run or be forced to load in order to play a game.
* Gamers shall have the right to expect that the minimum requirements for a game will mean that the game will play adequately on that computer.
* Gamers shall have the right to expect that games won’t install hidden drivers or other potentially harmful software without their consent.

1. Learn to read the fucking box.
2. A company can release what it wants. They don't force you to buy it.
3. If the game is released in a finished state, it won't need updates.
4. How dare a company try to patch a bug.
The rest are ok ideas.
Honestly, the "Gamers Bill of Rights" is the dumbest/nerdiest thing I've heard of. Companies just need to get smarter.
All of em' being free.
I mean.. like, I'd pay for a game I believe the developers have put work into, like all of VALVe's games. But for some shit made in a week I would not think about buying.
This, but supported with advertisements. There would be no reason to pirate a game if it was free, and if done correctly, the advertisements would not get in the way. For example, a billboard says "Pepsi" instead of "Pep-pop" or shit.
If they would stop putting out these shit games and actually make a quality product I might feel like paying for it.
There's been like 2 good games released in the last 2 years.
Just because VALVe can doesn't mean every company can.
EA can, Rockstar can, all the big companies can, Valve isn't exactly the one with the most net worth.
Demos. The only reason I would pirate because I want to know what the game is like before spending $50 on it.
Better digital distribution, lower prices if you buy the game online, and well that's about it.
If a game is on steam i buy it.
These two.
Although the latter obviously within reason, like, I'm not going to buy every game on Steam JUST because they are on Steam. Unless I had some serious hard drive space, and they were all spectacular games to begin with.

Actually, I agreed with that whole bill of rights thing, even if it is as nerdy as hell.
Adjust the registries and prevent running a game where the registries don't have the change. Make it vague and hide it somewhere. It should put off piracy for a while.
Also no subscription fees like WoW.
I would buy WoW if it weren't for that. But I do understand how expensive it is to run those servers, and I don't have any idea on how to make subscriptions free.

Enemy Territory Quake wars did this, you had to pay for the game, but you didn't have to pay a monthly fee like most other MMO's because they had dynamic in game adds. never actually played it, but that's what was in it.
Only thing that would make me pirate is if i would get in trouble for it, if its Bad to do, whoopie-de-do id rather enjoy a game then work, to get 50$ then pay it, then enjoy my self for a day or two then get bored and repeat, and only a few can i enjoy longer(valve games)
itt entrapment
Put up a false torrent on the interwebs that downloads a virus before the store hits shelves. All them pirates will be out of a computer, unless they're smart.
I haven't pirated in forever... but one thing that would be great for the industry would be to either give you a choice between.
1. Pay 50$ upfront
or
2. Adware, every once and a while before or during a loading screen you watch a damn commercial and then you can continue playing for free. Just like series shows, for example...you can watch all 5 seasons of lost with out pirating because the lost website allows you to stream any episode in HD for free. The only catch is that you have to watch a 20second long commercial every 15 min which is not really a big deal.
This, sir, is a brilliant idea.
How many people pirate battlefield and play online?
Exactly. Why can't they do that with every game.
Put up a false torrent on the interwebs that downloads a virus before the store hits shelves. All them pirates will be out of a computer, unless they're smart.
If they make a 6gb virus I guess. I don't think too many people would fall for a 3mb torrent claiming to be a full game.
I don't (or probably don't remember or realize) pirate any games, but if I did, It would be due to budget issues.
I would stop if they would allow for a CD key registration, like upon installation of a game, if connected to the internet, you would have to create an account, so if you lose your CD key, you would be able to download the entire game. So basically how blizzard handles it. Personally I'm tired of buying 4 copies of old games just because I misplaced the tiny effin slip of paper that came in the box.

I've come up with an idea for those, though they wouldn't be completely free.
Charge people with Vanilla WoW less than people with WoW and all the expansions. Instead of charging a person with only vanilla WoW $15 a month, how bout $5 since he is only getting 1/3rd the content.
I don't want to pay 50 euros for a newly released game.
Seriously, wtf?
Lucky you, its £50 here.
If they make a 6gb virus I guess. I don't think too many people would fall for a 3mb torrent claiming to be a full game.
You could make a really really (fucking) long .txt doc XD
the most irritating thing in the world is companies putting advertisements in their game, yet the hefty price tag is still on the game
i wouldn't mind the advertisements if their games were significantly cheaper, the fact that they are making bank off pepsi and from me forking out 60$ makes me rather irritated
Stop releasing shitty games so we won't waste our money
if there was an actual chance of getting caught
I buy games that I feel deserve to be bought.
If I really want to play a certain game or I've been following its production and such, I'll go and buy it when it comes out.
Most of the time, I wait for reviews to come out and such. If the game is well-made and quality software, I'll buy it.
However, sometimes I feel the urge to play a "crappy" game. A game that just isn't good enough to warrant me buying it, but I just have the urge to play it for a few minutes. That's when pirating kicks in. I'll download it and when I am done playing it, I'll delete it.
So basically, I "pirate" only to demo games. If developers would just release a god damn demo for their games (a quality one, at that), then I wouldn't have to pirate a thing.
They also aren't losing sales because if I couldn't play the game, I'd shrug it off and say "Oh well." I wouldn't buy the game in a million years. No sales are lost.
