• What would stop you from pirating?

Death penalty.
There are only two companies of whose games I pirate; EA and Ubisoft, the former because they have enough fucking money already (hurr ea bashing bandwagon, hop on guise) and I don't agree with their morals and work ethics, and the latter because it's rare that Ubisoft release a good game anymore.
Yes, Ubisoft is digging the shithole he's in deeper. The last good game I have by them is Assasin's Greed and that's only because the idea is new. Would be nice if those stupid french bastards actually tested their games before release.
Multiplayer, and Steam always having insane deals on games
You know, sort of unrelated, but it just occurred to me, in a few years, when we have a new standard in high capacity optical disks, I bet there'll be some cross platform (360/PS3/PC or equivelant) way of selling games that work on every console (and PC). Ah, that would be the day.

It doesn't justify pirating.
By busting EVERYONE who's downloading.
It's more of my own personal QA, If I think it's good, I might get a secondhand CD key to play online, like I did with World in Conflict.
By busting EVERYONE who's downloading.
I literally laughed out loud at this one.
He doesn't live in America...
This. I live in Australia. A new release is around $90 for a PC game. I don't want to spend that much on something I will probably only use for an hour or two.
Nothing
24-hour long trial. Then we could decide if we would really want that game Better games Do not release great demos than the game is really shitty in the end Much cheaper
Bringing the price down of said game.
Make them pay us for playing it. That should sell a shit load.
I think by having a better ONLINE aspect of the game, pirating has decreased dramatically, because whats the point of playing on a cracked game, it just proves your a pathetic worthless git with other pathetic worthless gits :) No Offence to any worthless gits :P Maybe for example Single Player games, they are currently difficult to stand out, apart from Mirrors Edge, Assassins Creed so on Those games had fantastic advertising campaigns, and I dont think we will see great single player games like that any more
this. or provide proper demo's so you don't feel cheated after you fork out for a game and it's shit so you then go and pirate other ones to avoid the same thing happening, i don't pirate games though. but im sure that would help stop it.
Or just making really good games.
God damn. i remember when an N64 - 30 dollar game used to bug my parents when i asked them if i could get one. I'm starting to feel what they feel nowadays.
When EA releases hold of all the good* companies. *Westwood
Westwood have already left the company. They have made Universe at War (SEGA) and Empire at War (Lucas Arts).

It's funny how people's philosophies in this thread are totally inapplicable to any other product. "I want to buy this car, but if I do I can't eat so I'll just steal it". That's bullshit, you don't pirate because you can't afford the game, you pirate because you know you won't get caught doing it (or it's highly unlikely)
Piracy won't stop until it becomes too difficult for people to download a valid copy of the game. I got flamed to hell and back in the news thread for daring to suggest that the laws need to be tightened up and the p2p sites flooded with thousands of fake downloads.
Free games at retailers

Warezing is our way of protesting against the companies. And most of us use warez'd games as demos, and if the game was good they buy it later. What is better, some illegal action to find out that the game completely sucks or paying 50-110 bucks and then finding out it's a piece of shit. 'I want to buy this car, but I can't eat if I do, so I'll just make an copy of it and hotwire it to test it out. If it's good I'll buy it.' Piracy is stealing shit on the high seas.
I am so going to use "to pull a Spore" in future.
Put up a false torrent on the interwebs that downloads a virus before the store hits shelves. All them pirates will be out of a computer, unless they're smart.
Oh god.
Lower prices for the digitally distributed versions (Seriously, the large part of the game's price is their packaging so why should I pay full price for a game I'm downloading instead?), Proper demos that show what the game is really like, less Shovelware (I'm looking at you, EA), a higher standard of quality (I'm not paying £40 for something I'm going to play for a few hours and then be done with either from boredom or from completing it) and no more fucking DRM.
Yeah, I can no longer justify spending $50 on a single player game. I'd really like to play FEAR 2 and the new Prince of Persia. But they're single player games, and once I finish, I'll probably never play them again. Crysis Warhead for $30 was a much better deal.
How can you say no to this? Quality games (i.e. TF2) that make any disadvantage gained from pirating really shitty, like the lack of multiplayer (I can't play non nonpatched servers in TF2 because of VAC).
Cheaper Games. Better advertisement of a game, dont go round saying its the best game of the year and it clearly isnt. More demos. I'll only pirate games that people say are bad, if they are bad i delete and wont buy it but if its good i will buy it. Or i pirate a game if someone has spoiled the ending for me, im not paying £40-£50 for something that has been ruined.
1. Reducing price 2. Providing demo/trial/ or some real game mechanics info - gameplay videos. Not just some fuzzy prerendered movies and void promises from early times of production. 3. Making games the way that people would be ashamed for pirating it. Seriously, when I see shitty game from company which makes billions by selling it anyway, and the game is obviously easy, censored, and totally casual so it would be bought by the widest circle of people possible (EA), I don't feel bad for pirating it. However I would not pirate game from some indie producer who makes barely enough money to pay bills (2Dboy, Cryptic Sea), or some company which does actually listen the gamers and makes you feel that they actually care about you AFTER you already bought the game (Valve), I would just not steal it because I would feel ashamed. I also HATE the style how they propagate "OMG DONT STEAL GAMES OR JAILTIME". I would like more kind of propagation style like if you pirate the game, you are dumb and greedy, and you only stop the producer to make another good game.
Also, actually releasing games aimed at a target region. The Orange Box, for example, costs $8.5 in Thailand.
