Gog Says Steam Sales Devalue Game and Hurt the Industry
Let me get this straight.
GOG thinks Steam putting heavy discounts on games is bad, but they have no problem selling games for 5-7 dollars in the first place?
Old games, mind you.
I disagree with this guy anyway, sales made me buy games that I wouldn't even consider buying otherwise and I still buy stuff out of sale.
Jeah he's totally right, I absolutely regret all games I've bought from steam sales and didn't enjoy them at all. I'm talking about games like: Magicka, Deus Ex, Super Meat Boy, Zeno Clash, Trine, etc.
Fuck you steam

Goddamn Steam forcing me to buy all these games, I'm homeless now fuck you gabe newell
well, aside from giving away fallout recently, they've also given away other games like broken sword, empire earth, and jagged alliance at different times in the past. plus, there's a few games on the service that are always free. (only decent one is beneath a steel sky, but still.)
Tyrain 2000...
Fantastic little shooter.
I buy a ton of games that go on sale that I normally wouldn't. If a game is $5, I'm a lot more likely to take a gamble and see if the game is fun. Though I rarely will buy a game I'm not even interested in.
"If a gamer buys a game he or she doesn't want just because it's on sale, they're being trained to make bad purchases,
Isn't it the gamer's fault for not having any self control then?
Yup, keep selling shitty games at 50€ with DLC not included then.
ITT: "We are mad that someone makes better deals then us for games that should be cheap as fuck by now, they hurt industry and games and our wallets QQ"
When a participant in certain industry claims that competition is "hurting their business", steer clear.
Selling a game for 1/4 of the price can raise sales as high as 40x, which is 10x more profit than before.
Since Steam requires very little money for the sale of each game, this generates lots of profit for companies. Skyrim goes on Sale? The store could hardly function from all the people buying it
Well that's just false. It's been proved many times that sales increase revenue. It opens up the product to more people, and allows those who normally could not afford it to perhaps be able to. Even with just 5% off it makes people more likely to buy something.
So no, sales do not lower the value, they raise it for the duration. Yes it's cheaper, but you're more likely to have a sale.
"If a gamer buys a game he or she doesn't want just because it's on sale, they're being trained to make bad purchases, and they're also learning that games aren't valuable. We all know gamers who spend more every month on games than they want to, just because there were too many games that were discounted too deeply. That's not good for anyone."
Hahahahahahahahahaha
Let me translate that for the five or six people out there who thought it meant something valid.
"Selling things for less is bad for everybody, so we're not going to put anything on sale, ever. Yeah, you're welcome games industry, now everybody abandon Steam and switch to GOG! We'll make sure you buy less of the things you want for more money, and that's a promise."
