sorry no, TibSun was good but RA2 was better
Tibsun for singleplayer, Ra2 for multiplayer.
Tibsun for singleplayer, Ra2 for multiplayer.
Yea you might be right about that. Never played multiplayer with Tiberian Sun but it has greater atmosphere, better music and I like the way terrain makes a big difference in Tiberian Sun.
I like to piss people off when they try to tank rush me when I play France and build Grand Cannons, after they have wasted their monies on that rush, I rocketeer spam their base before they have any AA defences. Sometimes it works flawlessly, other times, it doesn't.
You know I can't wait until RA4 is released. Because if the past few CnC games are anything to go by, they will release RA2 and Yuri's revenge for free!

With luck, you can take out their Con Yard and effectively win. Plus, Grand Cannons aren't really that great. Don't they have pisspoor firing rates? You'd be better off putting up Pillboxes and Prism Towers. Cheaper, too. Honestly, for foiling tank rushes you're best off playing Germany and building a bunch of Tank Destroyers.
Am I weird/a heretic if I like Generals more than RA2?
That strongly depends on what game elements you prefer.

They are effective if used properly.

Sounds pretty damn fun, and I need to compile a list of which to buy should I see them at a games store nearby.

It takes a good deal of time to get to that point, but when you do, you have the advantage. I'm not sure what you mean by "prefiring cannons", though. You mean firing where the enemy is moving to? That requires a good deal of micromanagement, which isn't that good for base defense, in my opinion. You didn't address my Tank Destroyer solution, however. If you want all the good C&C games, I'd order The First Decade off of Amazon. It's incredibly cheap, I got my copy for £7.
I think RA2 was the first game I completed, despite the fact that I played C&C:TD and RA:Retalation on PS1 before.
Darn it. I just tried to install my First Decade again but the disc has a really small scratch that prevents it from installing :saddowns:

Tank Destroyers aren't that great, they are only good against tanks and can be easily wrecked by other tanks in the game. Prefiring cannons isn't that bad, it can help sometimes. Allies can easily win long games due to tech superiority, by the time Soviets get Kirovs, I can just Mirage Tank rush bases easily, as units don't automatically attack Mirage Tanks that are camouflaged.
Yuri's side ain't all that powerful, haven't had any problems vs them unless the other side turtles. [editline]21st May 2011[/editline] Although Yuri prime was a VERY annoying super hero
Fuckin' mind control think tanks. Was funny they had to the downside of exploding when you mind controlled too many units, made for some funny matches with newbies who thought they could handle them online. "Why the fuck are my control tanks shaking and on fire-BOOM"
Tank destroyers are awful, sure they have massive damage to tanks but for some reason they have ridiculously weak armor and get killed by other tanks pretty much just as fast.
Seconded. Best tactic is to make smaller tanks. You can command them easily and have them everywhere you need them, spam enemy, they're cheap...

[editline]21st May 2011[/editline] Although Yuri prime was a VERY annoying super hero
magnetrons, masterminds and gatling tanks have fun getting your tanks juggled and controlled
magnetrons, masterminds and gatling tanks have fun getting your tanks juggled and controlled
Use terror drone swarms for maximum anti-Yuri hilarity.
^ that and if allied, air force can take down anything, gatling guns take ages to fire up properly so a strafe is usually enough. Also best thing on Yuri's revenge online. Mastermind control all your tanks, player sends them behind his lines, overload and now i have many tanks in his base! Although sometime it was a plan all along and some towers take control permanently so :V
Smart Yuri player immediately sends them against you or into the grinders.
Yeah, because if you lose the tank you've got a serious problem on your hands. The thing was yuri mind control attacks were EXTREMELY annoying and they steal your attention away from important things while the mind controller can just keep executing his plans.
God-DAMNIT Steam, why must you take so long to install Red Alert 3?
Because Steam knows it when game sucks.
Wait, shit, I found the backup file, hurrah
Yeah, because if you lose the tank you've got a serious problem on your hands. That's why in Invasion Confirmed, Yuri's mind control is replaced with vehicle sniping. It might seem like something powerful, but the defenses are much easier to overrun (but failed attacks leave the enemy with extra vehicles, permanently). [editline]22nd May 2011[/editline]
Because Steam knows it when game sucks.
It's not a bad game per say. It's fun. It is quite lacking in a a few ways, but it is still fun. And the expansion's Single Player was actually well done.
Also it's a shame most of the Ra2 modding community is dead now, it was active till around 2006/07 at which point everything disappeared. I will forever miss Moomans rules and his unfinished yuris revenge squared
Modding RA2 is a lot harder and long winded than Tibsun. As I think you have to edit unit strings in the mix files? I am not too sure, but that is what I can vaguely remember from a forum I lurked, I might be wrong.
