• Almost Dead Game Genres

The only ones I can think of are flight sim and stealth. The last good stealth game I played was MGS4.
God games, if they are their own genre. The only upcoming one is From Dust, and I can't think of any others from recent few years, Black and White aside.
I'd have to say Stealth.
Survival Horror (Silent Hill 2 quality)
Turned Based Strategy (See Silent Storm)
Turned Based Strategy (See Silent Storm)
I think Civ 5 did a good job of proving that you can still make an incredible turn based strategy game. The problem is newer tech makes turn based strategy a lot less favorable than real time strategy.
Fully RPG games. As in stuff like Dragon Age, not Fallout, thats a hybrid
how can a game genre be dying if you give an example of a game that was just released that fits right into the category, and has a sequel lined up
tycoon games
Racing Games. Sure they come out, but does anyone ever play them? FPS's are all the rage and I don't approve. :colbert:
How about Hot Pursuit and GT5? Not sure, but I would say puzzle.
Flight Sim is dead because Aces Studio was shut down a year or two ago. All games in development were ceased, including Train Sim 2 (Which I was looking forward to) and I think they were working on another flight sim. Although, Cascade Game Foundy started up shortly after Aces shut down, and includes most of the old Aces members.
how can a game genre be dying if you give an example of a game that was just released that fits right into the category, and has a sequel lined up
Because there are still not as many people making games of said genre as they used to. I know this is a bad example but that's like asking how black and white films are dying when you can think of one that came out recently (sin city, kind of).
definitely stealth, but then again it was never really alive. and yeah, they don't make any new sports games, it's just continuations of series.
RTSes All we fucking get these days are watered down turds like DoW2 and C&C4. I think Company of Heroes was probably the last new RTS series that was good. I'm not really counting Starcraft 2 because it's really just Starcraft 1 in 3D.

FMV games
God games. The Sims 3 and Spore don't count.

I don't know about non-football sports games but EA pretty much made it so that they are the only people who can make games with the teams that are in the NFL.
Possibly the arcade sports genre(SSX, NBA Street, Tony Hawk, FIFA Street, Blitz '99)

I meant more Turn-based Strategies like Silent Storm.
Base Building games are dying out.
i don't think you read my post clear enough. Or you misinterpreted it. I meant more Turn-based Strategies like Silent Storm.
I assumed so Second point still stands though, if you add RPG games to that as well vs. turn based RPGs
Space sims, I hardly knew ya! :'(
Tycoon games. God, the last one that was great (At least to me) that came out was The Movies.
Space sims, I hardly knew ya! :'(
X3 Series? EVE? It's not many, but they're there. Not a lot of people really made them to begin with, sadly.
X can eat my balls and EVE is a point and click MMO. They're too technical, too hard to get into, too complicated to be fun. I wanna trade some shit and shoot some bitches, not click on abilities and manage a spreadsheet.
if you like space sims try star shatter or freelancer, older but amazing games
Platformers At least it feel's like it
Platformers are pretty much in the same boat as shoot-em-ups. No big developer wants to bother with them, but obscure and indie devs are mass producing them. Mario doesn't count as he survives off of aggressive advertising and brand recognition. The gameplay is never what draws people's initial attention to his games.
Freelancer isn't old per say, it's pretty much the last space sim. [editline]8th December 2010[/editline]
Platformers are pretty much in the same boat as shoot-em-ups.
